6 During Construction at Holy Cross Church Every effort will be made by our Construction Manager, Parish and School staffs to minimize the impact of construction work on the comings and goings of parishioners and school students. The current estimate for the project is May, 2013 August We will publish the site plan map when we have it, showing parking, access driveways and fenced-off construction areas. We do not anticipate losing any parking spaces except the spaces directly behind the Carriage House, as this area will be developed for the plaza and prayer garden. Holy Cross School should function normally. Student security and safety will continue to be paramount. No contractors will have access to the school or contact with our students. Outdoor recess and play will continue. Some areas of the parish field and the play equipment may be restricted during different phases of the project. Chapel Holy Cross Chapel is a wonderful place for private prayer and liturgical worship and the Blessed Sacrament is in its tabernacle. The chapel is open daytime hours seven days. Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament is held all day on Wednesdays. Our votive candles and alms box are located inside the chapel. A security camera is operational and masses will be live streamed soon. Masses Weekday masses will continue to be held in our refurbished Holy Cross Chapel at 9 AM. Classes of school children will attend mass in rotation during the school year as they have been doing since we moved from the Church some weeks ago. Weekend masses will be held in the auditorium except for the Latin Mass which will be held in the chapel on Sundays at 7 PM. Funeral Masses Funerals will be held in either our auditorium or by special arrangement through Holy Cross, at Precious Blood in Monmouth Beach. Fr. Manning and the Holy Cross parish staff including our Music Director and soloist will conduct the services at Precious Blood. Our chapel seats approximately 60 people. In cases where this seating may be adequate, funeral masses with cremains, funeral services without a mass or funeral masses without bringing the casket into the chapel may also be arranged. Memorial masses are also possible, keeping in mind the seating limitations. Weddings Our chapel is available for smaller weddings and convalidations (sometimes known as blessing of a marriage ). Otherwise, Precious Blood in Monmouth Beach has agreed to make their church available for Holy Cross parish staff and pastor to conduct weddings there subject to availability of dates. Baptisms Infant baptisms are being scheduled as usual. They may be held either in the chapel or at a Sunday mass in the auditorium. Confessions By appointment or Saturday mornings immediately following the 9 AM mass in the Chapel. April 3, 2014

7 HOLY CROSS CHURCH PROJECT UPDATE The foundation, the basement walls and the footings will be poured for the church over the next few weeks. Meantime the existing church has been buttressed for protection. We will schedule a blessing of the foundations when they are complete, probably after one of the Sunday masses. Watch the bulletin or the blog for details. A good portion of the dirt you see in mounds will be used for back-fill once the foundation has set and the remainder will be removed. The contractors are anxious to free up space for construction equipment and contractors vehicles. Additional subcontracts will be awarded in the coming weeks to those contractors who need to work closely with the site manager as the steel structure begins to rise from the ground and the walls are enclosed. A storage trailer will be placed on site to hold liturgical items and other items that will eventually be installed in the church. Three antique marble statues have been purchased and will be shipped for cleaning and restoration. Once this is complete, they will be delivered to us. The stained glass windows we purchased from Philadelphia are in the stained glass studio for cleaning, along with St. Alphonsus, St. Anthony and The Holy Cross Window from Holy Cross Church. Webcam links will be uploaded to allow viewing of the construction site, and the stained glass restoration workshop when Holy Cross windows are being refurbished. Be sure to stay updated by checking Fr. Manning s blog (holycrossrumson.typepad.com) or following him on Twitter (@PastorHolyCross)!

8 EXPOSITION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT AT HOLY CROSS CHAPEL WEDNESDAYS, 9:30 AM TO 4 PM Archbishop Fulton Sheen made a holy hour every day of his life and wrote his homilies in Our Lord s presence. Numerous Saints and popes throughout the ages spoke of the importance of prayer before the Blessed Sacrament. Why not try it and see what a difference it makes in your life! Commit to an hour or even a half hour for yourself, or sign up with a friend and bring everything in your heart and mind before the Lord. Share the experience with our Holy Cross School students who will be visiting the Blessed Sacrament during the school day. Feel the power of the true presence of the Lord in your life. Witness the peace that only he can give. Call the parish office or send an to llaplante@holycrossrumson.org for more information or to sign up.

9 A O N C E I N A L I F E T I M E O P P O R T U N I T Y H E L P B E A U T I F Y O U R N E W C H U R C H Many generous benefactors have already contributed to the church s renovation and expansion in this and past capital campaigns. Their generosity will be memorialized in the new church. Our renowned architect has designed a beautiful, traditional and prayerful church in keeping with our history and surroundings. Many of the new liturgical furnishings were fabricated in the early 1900 s, not only making their quality affordable, but preserving them for liturgical use. If you have already made a contribution, please consider one of these additional gifts. If you have not yet made a contribution, please prayerfully consider selecting one of these gifts to benefit not only this parish family, but generations to come. 13 KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS, RED BANK COUNCIL # Fair Haven Road, Fair Haven, NJ The Red Bank Knights of Columbus is collecting used eyeglasses for New Eyes for the Needy Each year, New Eyes for the Needy provides recycled eyeglasses to hundreds of thousands of people in developing nations. Generous individuals, civic clubs and opticians across the U.S. send eyeglasses to New Eyes for the Needy in Short Hills, NJ, where the glasses are sorted and tested by volunteers and repackaged for distribution by small medical missions and international charitable organizations. These glasses are given free of charge to the poor in dozens of countries. New Eyes glasses have traveled to 87 countries over the past 80 years. The cost of eyeglasses in many developing nations is equivalent to a year s salary. Without assistance from New Eyes, hundreds of thousands of people would go without the glasses they need to work, read or attend school. New Eyes often provides the only pair of eyeglasses a person will ever own. How can you help? Drop your used eyeglasses in the mail slot at the council hall, 200 Fair Haven Rd in Fair Haven Talk to a Knight at mass. Contact us at info@kofc3187.com or Interested in becoming a Knight?
