2 JOYFULLY SERVING CHEERFULLY GIVING PARADIGM SHIFT When we think of Stewardship of Time and talents we have generally thought in terms of filling all the tasks and positions that the church requires. Our new Ministry Activity Questionnaire seeks to identify those things that individuals are gifted to do and enjoy doing. Then we look for ways for individuals to joyfully serve! While many have already done the new MAQ, all should watch for it in this week s stewardship mailing. Please bring back your materials next weekend, and pray that we might be able to follow through on this new way of doing ministry. ADULT EDUCATION New classes start Sunday, November 6! 9:20 to 10:20 am Celebrating God s Grace is a class for non-lutherans who might like to find out more about the Lutheran Church. At the end of the class, they are eligible to join the church but there is no obligation. It is also for long-time Lutherans who might like to review the basics of their faith. This class will be lead by Pastor Heining in the North Fellowship Hall. Courageous: Based on the inspiring movie that is spurring a movement that lifts up families and fatherhood. This four week class uses clips from the movie to show the vital importance of families who honor God. Tim Strohschein will lead this class in the South Fellowship Hall. Creation: All the evolution rhetoric is very smooth and sounds scientific. But there are very big holes that are exposed when one asks some simple questions. Come and learn the questions to ask those buying into evolution. Then be willing to listen. This class is led by John VanProosdy in the Choir Room. Bible Handbook for Students This is an excellent resource for teens and adults, offering excellent background material for each book of the Bible. By ordering them in bulk we can purchase them for $21 each (includes shipping). Take a look at the sample on the counter in the narthex, and sign the sheet if you would like to order one. 2 Week of

Dinosaurs and the Bible Most folk, particularly children (yes, even Christian kids) believe that dinosaurs lives millions of years ago. 5 Healthy chocolate Dream or reality? Can chocolate be good for my health? Answer from Katherine Zeratsky, R.D., L.D., Mayo Clinic Nutritionist Healthy chocolate sounds like a dream come true, but chocolate hasn't gained the status of health food quite yet. Still, chocolate's reputation is on the rise, as a growing number of studies suggest that it can be a heart-healthy choice. Chocolate and its main ingredient, cocoa, appear to reduce risk factors for heart disease. Flavanols in cocoa beans have antioxidant effects that reduce cell damage implicated in heart disease. Flavanols also help lower blood pressure and improve vascular function. Dark chocolate contains more flavanols than does milk chocolate. One caveat: The evidence for the healthy benefits of flavanol-rich chocolate comes mostly from short-term and uncontrolled studies. More research will be needed to confirm chocolate's role in heart health. In the meantime, if you want to add chocolate to your diet, do so in moderation. Why? Most commercial chocolate has ingredients that add fat, sugar and calories. And too much can contribute to weight gain, a risk factor for high blood pressure, heart disease and diabetes. Choose dark chocolate with cocoa content of 65 percent or higher. Limit yourself to no more than 3 ounces (85 grams) a day, which is the amount shown in studies to be helpful. Because this amount may provide up to 450 calories, you may want to cut calories in other areas or step up the exercise to compensate. (Source: MayoClinic.org) STEPHEN MINISTRY Adjust: To adapt or conform to new conditions Have you or someone you know recently had to adjust to any of these situations: a new job, a new baby, a new boss, a new house, a separation, a grown child moving back home, a seriously ill parent, a death, a best friend who has moved? Be caring and helpful to those around you who are having to make adjustments in their lives. You can make a difference and really help by encouraging them to talk to someone. LIFE THOUGHTS Who would claim as his children reprobate and rebellious renegades? God did! That the kind of love HE has (1 John 3:1). Not only so, but He also declares us holy children, saints washed in the blood of Jesus splashed upon us in the waters of holy Baptism. Declared like Him now and destined to be like Him when He returns (3:2) Living as saints on our way to sainthood! What a hope filled way to olive! - LifeDate, Fall Week of
