(Please be seated) (8:00 am) ANTHEM Bless The Lord O My Soul Redeemer Youth (A blessing send-off for Brian Weyers, DCE Intern) God Speaks to Us SCRIPTURE READINGS L: The Old Testament Reading for the Fourth Sunday After Pentecost is from the third chapter of Jonah. 1 Then the word of the Lord came to Jonah a second time: 2 "Go to the great city of Nineveh and proclaim to it the message I give you." 3 Jonah obeyed the word of the Lord and went to Nineveh. Now Nineveh was a very large city; it took three days to go through it. 4 Jonah began by going a day's journey into the city, proclaiming, "Forty more days and Nineveh will be overthrown." 5 The Ninevites believed God. A fast was proclaimed, and all of them, from the greatest to the least, put on sackcloth. 6 When Jonah's warning reached the king of Nineveh, he rose from his throne, took off his royal robes, covered himself with sackcloth and sat down in the dust. 7 This is the proclamation he issued in Nineveh: "By the decree of the king and his nobles: Do not let people or animals, herds or flocks, taste anything; do not let them eat or drink. 8 But let people and animals be covered with sackcloth. Let everyone call urgently on God. Let them give up their evil ways and their violence. 9 Who knows? God may yet relent and with compassion turn from his fierce anger so that we will not perish." 10 When God saw what they did and how they turned from their evil ways, he relented and did not bring on them the destruction he had threatened. God rides in the boat with the disciples, yet the storm frightens them (Mark 4:35-41)/ God is in charge of the entire universe (Job 38:1-11), yet so many things frighten us. WE cannot always control our fears, but we can control the choices we make when afraid. The disciples turned to Jesus. We, too, can turn to Him no matter what circumstances may be tossing us about. When we are afraid, we must listen to His voice, Peace! Be Still! Prayer: Jesus, give me peace in knowing You control all things. Amen. Jonah 3:10 NIV POINTS TO PONDER THIS WEEK: 1) Why do you suppose the people of Nineveh repented and turned to God? 2) Consider a me or two in which you tried to do things your way instead of the God s way. 3) What was the result? Take it Home They say, Home is where the heart is. As Redeemer send a group of adults and youth to Chicago to serve God with their whole heart, a home will be created in Chicago for a week. These missionaries will be missing their friends and family and will need your prayers but they will be serving in mighty ways for the Lord! In the summer me most of us move our homes to another loca on for a few days. We may be taking a vaca on and our heart is excited to rest, explore or learn. We may be visi ng family and our heart leads us to reacquaint, reminisce, or introduce. Wherever your heart leads you this summer and however long you are there that is where your home is! How will you acknowledge Christ is with you wherever you go? Will you s ll pray at meals, do family devo ons, go to church, read God s Word? I pray you will! In all our travels God goes with us and His love surrounds us. Take me to rest and have fun this summer but always know Christ is with you! Hymn Notes: "Our Father Whose By Name" LSB 863 This hymn was wri en in 1939 when the current hymnal, The Hymnal, was under revisions. The commi ee was asked to make a topical index of all the hymns chosen and the writer wrote down the topic of "Home and Family". He then discovered there were no hymns on that topic, so decided he would try to write one. He looked to Ephesians 3:14 15: "For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name." As we celebrate fathers this Father's Day, let us pray that our homes and families be filled with the peace and love from our Triune God and that our fathers can be a great example of our Heavenly Fathers love, pa ence, and forgiveness for his children.
