With Leon and Rose Marie Larson who celebrate their 61st wedding anniversary on August 8. Thanksgiving: For the nineteen years of marriage that Mark and Paula Kuisle will celebrate on August 11. PRAYER CHAIN Prayer is a powerful gift that is always available for us to use. If you have a prayer request, call June Hovland ( ) or Kitty Harders ( ) who will activate the chain. Anyone interested in becoming a part of this prayer ministry, please contact June or Kitty. These cards will be collected by one of the pastors during the offering time. OUR RESPONSE TO GOD LAST WEEK: Weekend Worship Attendance: 407 ( ) Guests: 28 UNUSED BIBLES - If anyone has any unused Bibles, Pastor Jim might have room to bring some to Uganda. They should be in good condition -- any contemporary translation. Please bring to the church office by August 18. APRIL BECKMAN will be in the office Monday through Wednesday this week taking Thursday and Friday off. WAFFLE TICKETS - If you haven t bought your ticket yet for the Waffle Breakfast, it is not too late!. Come on down to the Fellowship Hall and enjoy a wonderful breakfast or brunch of Belgian Waffles from 9 am until 1 pm. Come out and support our Youth and the Quilters. The waffles will be wonderful and the Silent auction filled with goodies! See you there! CHAPEL HYMNALS - You can help! If you are seated in the Chapel and use the hymnal, please set them back in the racks so they are standing up on the bottom of the book. This will help preserve the life of our hymnals, thank you! ROSES ON THE ALTAR are in honor of Alice Przestwor s 88th birthday on August 7th and Inez Hamilton s 90th birthday on August 10th. FLOWERS IN THE CHANCEL are in honor of Bob Knop s 93rd birthday on August 8th. 1

2 MEDICAL EQUIPMENT - We have received many medical equipment donations and have distributed many pieces as well. If you have medical equipment and no longer need it, please return the items to the church. REDEEMER CLASSIFIEDS Look for copies on the counter in the narthex. THE FOURTH ANNUAL RCLS GOLF OUTING is happening soon! The Golf Outing will be held on Friday, August 28th at Willow Creek. If you are planning on golfing or being involved with this event, please pick up a brochure and send in your registration today! Brochures are available at each church and the school office. We would love to have you join us for this fun event, but we need final numbers soon. SABBATICAL UPDATES can be found on Pastor Jim's new "blog," which can be accessed through Redeemer's website ( or on his "Facebook" page. SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHERS NEEDED FOR NEXT YEAR - Looking at our needs for the Sunday School year, we are in need of one or two teachers for the 3-year-olds, two teachers for the fourth grade class, and one for the seventh grade class. If interested in any of these positions, please call Lynette Miller at OCEAN (Organization for Cultural Exchange Among Nations), a non-profit organization, is seeking families who are interested in opening their hearts and homes to an international exchange student for the 2009/2010 school year. Students will arrive in August and remain in the U.S. for the academic year or semester. Students are between the ages of 15 and 18, fully insured, proficient in English and have their own spending money for personal expenses. Host families are responsible for providing the student with room and board, as well as a loving family environment. The rewards you will receive by hosting an exchange student will last a lifetime. You will gain new friends from around the world. August 12-7 pm; August 19- Play Offs August Youth Camping - Save the date for a special weekend. August 26 - Twin s Game - Sign up now to be a part of this great day. Friday, September 4 - Viking s Game - $20 gets you a ticket. Need to know by August 5. Please sign up on the Youth bulletin board. Call or text with questions. 7TH GRADERS! IT IS CONFIRMATION TIME! 7th Grade confirmation starts September 2 at 6:10 pm! Before then I will need to meet with every 7th Grade student and their parents. This meeting will last about an hour and will cover dates and times, homework and memory work and service projects. THANK YOU to Redeemer Lutheran Church for your wonderful partnership with Bethel Lutheran Church for our National Night Out celebration on Tuesday August 4th! Our inaugural event was a great success! We heard from so many people that evening how enjoyable it was and it was because of 2 churches coming together for our community. Special thanks to Jill Swihart and Judy Lee and all of the volunteers who helped serve food. Thanks to everyone who came out to make it a fun event! TROY REINKE GOLF EVENT CANCELLED - Because of the tough economy, the Troy Reinke/ALS Benefit Golf Tournament sponsored by Clements Chevrolet Cadillac Subaru has been cancelled. Unfortunately golf entries and sponsorships declined from previous years and it was decided to cancel this year s event and look ahead to next year. Thank you to everyone who had planned to participate. PRESCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP FUND - Is it important to you that some of God s youngest children have the opportunity to receive quality, Christian education? If this is important to you, would you be willing to make it happen? Redeemer is starting to build a scholarship fund for those that would like to attend the Redeemer Preschool but are having financial struggles. We need your help! 4 How to Get Yourself Infected with Happiness Every time you get sick, you probably look around to see which friend, coworker, or family member you can blame. Well, now take a look around and see whom you should thank for your happiness. Turns out, happiness may be infectious, a contagion (if you will) that you can spread or receive just by being in close proximity to other people. Of course, that invites the question: How can you get yourself infected? The researchers say surrounding yourself with happy friends, relatives, and neighbors is a start. The study even found that having friends of friends who were happy increases your chances of being similarly cheerful. Taken from USNews and World Report provided by Olmsted County Public Health Services FROM THE NURSE Bayer Aspirin, Quick Release Crystals Bayer is making crystal aspirin to dissolve under the tongue. They work much faster than the tablets. Why keep aspirin by your bedside? Some Information About Heart Attacks There are other symptoms of an heart attack besides the pain on the left arm. One must also be aware of an intense pain on the chin, as well as nausea and lots of sweating, however these symptoms may also occur less frequently. (Note: There may be no pain in the chest during a heart attack.) The majority of people (about 60%) who had a heart attack during their sleep, did not wake up. However, if it occurs, the chest pain may wake you up from your deep sleep. If that happens, immediately dissolve two aspirins in your mouth and swallow them with a bit of water. Afterwards: - phone a neighbor or a family member who lives very close by - say "heart attack!" - say that you have taken 2 aspirins. - take a seat on a chair or sofa near the front door, and wait for their arrival and do NOT LIE DOWN... 4
