BOARD OF TRUSTEES REPORT FOR COUNCIL MEETING APRIL 24, 2018 The Trustees have spent this past month fixing odds & ends throughout our property, and ensuring a clean, presentable environment for our Congregation and Visitors. We would like to remind our Congregation that our Education Building is available for your events & we ask that you clean up when you are done. This includes taking out the trash, wiping down the tables, and putting the chairs back where they belong. You do not need to sweep or mop the floors. Our janitor typically cleans on Fridays & your help during the week is appreciated Projects for 2018 are listed below & we welcome everyone s input. Please call our head trustee any time to discuss your thoughts, ideas, suggestions, and resources. We are securing bids for all of these projects & will present soon. We need to raise the priority on the Sunday School building. Again I would like to remind the members to come to us with any potential problems you might see so we can take required action prior to it becoming a major problem.
Reformation Minute: The Elders highlight a passage each month from the Lutheran Book of Concord, which is the definitive Lutheran confessional. You are encouraged to read the full article/part from the Book of Concord for a more complete understanding. Augsburg, Article V, The Ministry, p33, [1] So that we may obtain this faith, the ministry of teaching the Gospel and administering the Sacraments was instituted. [2] Through the Word and Sacraments, as through instruments, the Holy Spirit is given [John 20:22]. He works faith, when and where it pleases God [John 3:8], in those who hear the good news that [3] God justifies those who believe that they are received into grace for Christ s sake. This happens not through our own merits, but for Christ s sake. - Citation taken from Concordia: The Lutheran Confessions-A Readers Edition of the Book of Concord by McCain, Paul T, General Editor -
Night of Hope The annual fundraiser for Greater San Marcos Youth Council was held at Three Dudes Winery on April 26, 2018, and was attended by 3 couples from our congregation. A lovely meal of salad, roast beef, prawns, potatoes and a vegetable medley was served. Wine tastings were included in the cost of admission. Festivities included live music, raffle and silent auction. Nena Meadows was honored for her 25 years of devotion to the children served by GSMYC. Individuals typically only last in this type of career for a few years. Nena has shown these kids a gentle love, and many have come back as adults to praise and thank her. The shelter houses children who have been removed from abusive or neglectful homes. God bless this ministry
LWML Women in Mission in Motion On the move to Waco for the Texas District Convention Two of our members will be traveling to Waco in July to attend the Texas District LWML Convention. Check out the large glass cabinet in the Fellowship Hall for stamped envelopes and greeting cards, all with postage attached This is a real bargain Ask any LWML woman for assistance. On the move worldwide Thanks to the generosity of the members of our congregation, our society was able to send over $1,000 to the Lutheran World Relief Quilt and Kit shipping fund We are so blessed and are passing that blessing on worldwide Thank you for adopting Personal Care Kits, purchasing school supplies, and supporting our quilters On the move locally April 29 th was the Capitol Zone Spring Rally in Georgetown. Our society was on the move as we donated funds for small appliances at the new, recently built, University of Texas student gathering place. On the move to assist Camp Lone Star in LaGrange In May, the new CEO at Camp Lone Star will be our guest speaker. We invite anyone interested in the ministry of Camp Lone Star to join us for his presentation at 6:45 PM on Friday, May 18 th. Our society and the men of LLL will be presenting donations to Camp Lone Star to further their programs. (The Development Board consists of members who pledge $500 per year for a three year period for maintenance, new facilities and scholarships for campers at Lone Star. Ask Jim and Sandy how to become vital members of this group.)
Board of Outreach, April, 2018, GLC council report Ministering to Young Families: Reminder: Our next event will be held on June 30, 2018, with a freedom theme (Freedom Rings or Let Freedom Ring, tied in with the 4th of July and our true freedom in Christ.) Planning will begin in May. Spring ministry event: GSMYC outing at the Texas Ski Ranch near New Braunfels, held on Saturday, April 14, was a great success The children bounced in the trampoline gym for an hour and a half, then ate and ate and ate at Cici's Pizza in New Braunfels. Thank you to the Careciples for treating us all to lunch A Night of Hope supporting GSMYC will be Thursday, April 26. Update on deaf ministry: The Dinner and a Movie event for the deaf community on Saturday, April 21, 3:00p., was a great success 20+ people were in attendance. Watch for more information on a Chili Cook-off, to be held in mid to late October. Proceeds to support a designated charitable organization. Food bank donations: Monthly food bank donations continue to be strong. April's donations will support the Wimberley Crisis Bread Basket. Continuing outreach opportunities: a. Sing-along with Grace.
