Twenty-seven of our youth and their counselors recently attended the National Lutheran Youth Gathering in San Antonio, Texas. They will be sharing some of their experiences as a part of our worship this weekend. OUR THEME FOR TODAY is Neighbors All Around. The expert in the law was hoping to limit the number of neighbors he would need to love as himself. Jesus would have us broaden our definition of neighbor. TODAY S WORSHIP (*) Those we are able are asked to stand during these parts of the service. (Sunday) VBS SKIT GREETINGS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS (A time to welcome our fellow worshipers.) C: Most merciful God, we confess that we are by nature sinfull and unclean. We have not loved You with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are quick to judge what is in their hearts. We make excuses. We find it easy to walk on the other side of the road, choosing to focus upon ourselves. For the sake of Your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in Your will and open our eyes to see our neighbor in need. P: In the mercy of almighty God, Jesus Christ was given to die for us, and for His sake God forgives us all our sins. To those who believe in Jesus Christ He gives the power to become the children of God as we share His love with all of our neighbors. May the Lord, who has begun this good work in us, bring it to completion in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. C: Amen. REMEMBRANCE OF BAPTISMAL FORGIVENESSS (as instructed) -2-

SCRIPTURE READINGS L: The Old Testament reading for the Eighth Sunday After Pentecost is from Leviticus the nineteenth chapter. 13 You shall not oppress your neighbor or rob him. The wagess of a hired servant shall not remain with you all night until the morning. 14 You shall not curse the deaf or put a stumbling block before the blind, but you shall fear your God: I am the Lord. 15 You shall do no injustice in court. You shall not be partial to the poor or defer to the great, but in righteousness shall you judge your neighbor. 16 You shall not go around as a slanderer among your people, and you shall not stand up against thee life of your neighbor: I am the Lord. 17 You shall not hate your brother in your heart, but you shall reason frankly with your neighbor, lest you incur sin because of him. 18 You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against the sons of your own people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord. Leviticus 19:13 18 L: C: This is the Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. -3-
4 Churchh th Avenue SE Rochester, MN L: The Epistle is from Colossians chapter one. 9 And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in alll spiritual wisdom and understanding, 10 so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God. 11 May you be strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy, 122 giving thankss to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light. 13 He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. Colossians 1:9 14 L: C: This is the Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. (Please stand.) (*) HOLY GOSPEL L: The Holy Gospel according to St. Luke, the tenth chapter. C: Glory to you O Lord. 25 And behold, a lawyer stood up to put him to thee test, saying, Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? 26 He said to him, What is written in the Law? How do you read it? 27 And he answered, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself. 28 And he said to him, You have answered correctly; do this, and you will live. 29 But he, desiring to justify himself, said to Jesus,, And who iss my neighbor? 30 Jesus replied, A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among robbers, who stripped him and beat him and departed, leaving him half dead. 31 Now by chance a priest was goingg down that road, and when he saw him he passed byy on the other side. 32 So likewise a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed byy on the otherr side. 33 But a Samaritan, as he journeyed, came to where he was, and when he saw him, he had compassion. 34 He went to him and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he set him on his own animal and brought him to an inn and took care of him. 35 And the next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper, saying, Take care of him, and whatever more you spend, I will repay you when I come back.. 36 Which of these three, do you think, proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell among the robbers? 37 He said, The one who showedd him mercy. And Jesus said to him, You go, and do likewise. Luke 10:25 37 L: C: This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you O Christ. (Please be seated.) 10 PRACTICAL... SIMPLE OUTREACH EXAMPLES Vacation Bible School Invite: Use VBS as your opportunity to reconnect a grandchild with the church! Use VBS as your opportunity to get your neighbor connected to the church! Go the extra mile on this one. Bring the registration form to someone and invite them. Then extend this invitation, I will bring your child to VBS and bring them back when it is done. Make it as little of an inconvenience on the parents as you can, which makes it even harder to say no! Talk with the child in the car about what they learned, give them questions to ask their parents, and pray each day for the connection the Lord is making through VBS. Live your normal everyday lives with Gospel intentionality Outreach made simply practical! The G.T.O Team OUR RESPONSE TO GOD LAST WEEK: Weekend Worship Attendance: 410 ( ) Guests: 40 Wee, Wee, Wee All The Way Home (Simple ways to nurture faith at home) Be Godly spouse, parents, children. This is one of the 7 practices that we would like to see happen in Redeemer homes. All of us are one of these titles. We are all children even if we have had to say goodbye to our parents. Some of us have a spouse and some of us carry the title of parent. We pray that in all of these roles we shine the light of Christ. We cannot control others but we can choose how we are going to approach life. What does it mean to be Godly? What if we made the choice to respond as Jesus did, with prayer, forgiveness, honesty, love, truth, and God s Word? What would your home look like if you strove to respond to situations as Jesus did? Jesus did not wait for others to treat Him right. Jesus set the tone and showed us all an example of Godly living! Redeemer homes strive to be Godly spouse, parents, and children. NEXT WEEKEND S READINGS Genesis 18:1-14, Colossians 1:21-29, and Luke 10:38-42 Collecting Portals of Prayers and Living the Gospel Life devotions Don't throw away your devotional booklets -- instead bring them to church and place them in a collection box on the counter in the narthex. The booklets will be redistributed as part of a missional outreach program. 3 Week of
11 There are roughly 250 species of wild mushrooms that can cause illness or death. There is no easy way to test and separate edible from poisonous mushrooms. There are many myths (testing with a silver spoon, checking to see if insects will eat the mushrooms, judging by color) but none of these are reliable ways to determine if a mushroom is edible or poisonous. If you are a mushroom harvester, here are some tips to avoid mushroom poisoning: Wrap each mushroom separately to avoid cross-contamination between safe and unsafe species. Identify every mushroom you collect, and only eat those whose identification is certain. When in doubt, throw it out! Strictly avoid any mushroom that looks like an amanita, all little brown mushrooms, and all false morels.
