Please visit our Welcome Center in the narthex for additional information about Redeemer. THE STORY Our congregation has begun a 31-week journey through the story of God s people. We are currently in Exodus. 54th ANNUAL MUSIC SERVICE - We are thankful for all of our dedicated musicians who share their God-given talents throughout the year. On this day several of our groups are coming together to lead a good portion of our worship. Since this is a service of worship, we ask that you not applaud for individual groups. We will have a chance to say thanks to all at the end. OUR THEME FOR TODAY is A Better Way To Live. Having delivered the children of Israel from the slavery of Egypt, he gives them the Ten Commandments, as a better way to live. (*) PROCESSIONAL HYMN Praise, My Soul, The King of Heaven... LSB 793 (*) THE INVOCATION, CONFESSION, ABSOLUTION P: In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. C: Amen. -1-
2 Redeemer Lutheran Church th Avenue SE Rochester, MN P: In that name, and with that faith as dear children approaching a loving parent, as sinners redeemed by the blood of the Lamb, as believers filled with the Holy Spirit let us confess our sins to almighty God. C: Let us seek forgiveness. (Silence for meditation and self-examination) P: Most merciful God, C: we have been unworthy and disobedient children. We have ignored our Father s admonitions, disregarded our Savior s instructions, grieved the Holy Spirit. We are not worthy to be called children of God. But we beg you of your fatherly compassion, by your saving merits, at your inviting call to have mercy on us and grant us your forgiveness. P: God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him might not perish but have eternal life. To those who believe in Jesus Christ, the heavenly Father gives the Holy Spirit that they may be children of God. Rejoice in the Lord, your sins are forgiven in the name of the Father and the Son and of the Holy Spirit C: Amen. (Please be seated.) 3 With all my heart, with all my soul, With all my mind, with all my strength; Redeemer Lutheran Church th Avenue SE Rochester, MN I will love You, Lord, with all my heart, with all my soul, With all my mind, and with all my strength; I will love You, Lord, with all my heart, with all my soul, With all my mind, and with all my strength; I will love You, Lord, with all my heart, with all my soul, With all my mind, and with all my strength; (10:40 am) CHERUB CHOIR If I Were A Butterfly ANGELIC CHIMES A Time For Joy SCRIPTURE READING L: The First Reading for the Sixth Sunday of Easter is from the book of Exodus. And God spoke all these words: 2 I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. 3 You shall have no other gods before me. 4 You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. 5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, 6 but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments. 7 You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name. 8 Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant, nor your animals, nor the alien within your gates. 11 For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy. 12 Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you. 13 You shall not murder. 14 You shall not commit adultery. 15 You shall not steal. 16 You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor. 17 You shall not covet your neighbor s house. You shall not covet your neighbor s wife, or his manservant or maidservant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor. Exodus 20:
4 Redeemer Lutheran Church th Avenue SE Rochester, MN L: This is the Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God. (Please stand.) (*) HOLY GOSPEL L: The Holy Gospel according to St. John, the fifteenth chapter. C: Glory to You, O Lord. 12 My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. 14 You are my friends if you do what I command. 15 I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. 16 You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit fruit that will last. Then the Father will give you whatever you ask in my name. 17 This is my command: Love each other. John 15:12-17 L: This is the Gospel of the Lord. C: Praise to You, O Christ. 12 ARE YOU PAYING FULL PRICE FOR YOUR MEDICATIONS? (PART 1) The Problem: Millions of Americans have to pay top dollar for their medication because they have no insurance or because they are not part of a large organization that has negotiated discount pricing for them. The people that can afford it the least are charged the most. This is unfair. Those Affected: The over 48 million Americans who have no health insurance The many more millions who have none or have restricted prescription plans The millions who have high deductible plans The Solution: Use our Free Permanent Drug Plan Card, which is accepted at approximately 80% of the drug stores Nationwide and get discounts that average 15% on Brand Name drugs and 55% on Generics. This card can be used over and over again! A pet card is also available! Frequently Asked Questions What is a Prescription Drug Savings or Discount Card? Prescription drug discount cards (also known as consumer cards, point of sale card, and 100% co-pay cards), allow prescription drug users to save money on all types of prescription medications. At the time of purchase, members simply present their card at a participating pharmacy to instantly receive substantial discounts on their prescription dugs. It s that easy. How do Prescription Drug Savings Cards work? Prescription Drug Savings cards contain special computerized instructions that can be read by the pharmacy s computer, similar to an ATM card. When the card information is entered, the price on the prescription is discounted based on the pharmacy s agreement with our program. This type of cutting-edge technology allows consumers to save money without encountering any hassles in the checkout line. Who Needs a Prescription Drug Discount Card? Any individual with limited or no prescription drug coverage can benefit from a prescription drug savings card. Instead of paying full price for medication, card members can save money whenever they purchase prescription drugs. People who already have insurance coverage may still find the card useful, as it can discount medications that are not covered by their health plan. The prescription drug savings card can also be especially useful to seniors enrolled in Medicare; It has been estimated that as many as 38% of Medicare recipients lack prescription drug coverage. * Please note: our discount card CAN NOT be used in conjunction with insurance. Use which ever gives you the lowest price the discount card or your insurance. NOTE: 300 Prescription Drug Discount Cards and fact sheets have been made available to Redeemer. They are available in the church office or from Parish Nurses, Jan Dicke or Iva Kietzman. For more information about this Drug Savings Card please check the website or see your local pharmacist. The June Resource will also feature more information about this savings plan. 5 Week of

14 The Story Reading Guide May 13-20, 2012 Consider joining your fellow members in reading through the narrative sections of the Bible, during these next 31 weeks. You may either use The Story or read the appropriate chapters in your Bible. (Copies of The Story are available in the Narthex.) For May 19/20: Wandering 1.) from the The Story, read chapter six. OR 2.) from the Bible read, Numbers 10-14,20-21,25,27 and Deuteronomy 1-2,4,6,8-9,29-32,34 (You are certainly welcome to read the chapters in between!) To Think About: 1.) What do you think was the root cause of most of the Israelites problems? Why? 2.) How did God respond to the people s lack of faith? 3.) Why is God so radically opposed to sin? 4.) What do you learn from Moses leadership throughout this difficult period? How did he display frustration and faith? 5.) Have you ever felt as if you were wandering in the wilderness spiritually or emotionally? Explain. 6.) How can having faith in what God has promised help you in difficult times? Unanswered Questions Instead of taking time during our busy worship services, there will be time given at the beginning of Pastor Jim s Bible Class and we have now started an active Blog on The Story, which can be accessed from the home page of Redeemer s website.
