3 Hot Sands Vol. 88 No. 12 December 2013 It sure has been a busy couple of months, but, it has been a blast. In October, I was privileged to have been able to attend the Grand Master s One Day class and speak to our new Brother Mason s about joining Hadi Shriners. I was then asked to enter the Lodge as Potentate with the distinguished guests. This was truly an honor for the Shrine to be recognized in the Blue Lodge. Also in October, I was able to attend the Scottish Rite Reunion and take part in the dinner, again affording me the opportunity to speak about the Shrine. All day I was in the company of Past Grand Master s and was able to see 9 new Scottish Rite Masons finding further light. November 2 nd was our fall ceremonial, honoring Illustrious Sir Steve Harris. Although Steve was unable to join us, he was there in spirit. Sometimes work gets in the way of fun. We had a great class of 34 new Shriners. The day was very awesome and I would like to thank all of those that helped make the day a huge success. November 9 th, another busy but yet great day. I was honored to be able to attend Ft. Branch Lodge dedication of their new Lodge Hall. The Grand Lodge was there and several Past Grand Master s. They did an excellent job in the works of dedicating such a nice building on the Lodges 100 th anniversary. Congratulations and thank you to WB Dennis Schraeder, the Lodge Officers, Past Masters, and all of their members and ladies for a wonderful time. I was again honored to enter and be introduced as Potentate of Hadi Shriners along with the Grand Lodge officers and other distinguished guests. That same day, I hurried back to Evansville, because the Shriners participated in the Veteran s Day Parade. We were very well received and I would like to thank the Car Club, D&B, Horse Patrol, Arab Patrol, the Mariners, and the Funsters and of course the Divan for being there. We had a great turn out. Here it is December, and we wrapping up a great year. I would like to invite everyone, their family and friends to the IceMen game on New Year s Eve. This is jersey night and all the net proceeds will go to Shriners Hospital for Children. Marilyn and I would like to wish each and every one of you a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Thanks to everyone who worked the Circus. It is always a good time for fellowship and the feeling that you are donating your time for a great cause. Through the efforts of a great number of people it was a fantastic circus. NEW MEMBERS, NEW MEMBERS, NEW MEMBERS. There was a Hot Sands held during month of November, so there are new Nobles looking for a unit to join. Let s beat the bushes and find these potential members and invite them to join us. We are always in need of horn players and drummers and would welcome new members to our unit. A huge Thank You to everyone who participated in the Ceremonial held on November 2nd and the Evansville Christmas parade on November 24th. December means we will be marching in the final parade of the season. Let s have a good showing at the Henderson parade on December 7th and end the 2013 parade season in a bang up fashion. A large number of D&B members and guests enjoyed a pizza party following the Friday evening circus performance. This is an annual event for our unit and is enjoyed by all who attend. Our Christmas party will be held on December 13th. Invitations will be sent so make every effort to attend this fun event. Due to the Christmas party being held on the 2nd Friday in December there will not be a stated meeting for this month. 8 Hot Sands Vol. 88 No. 12 December 2013 Bill Polen Weekend Trip to Indy Bill Davis 4 Aces Basketball Tickets Lance Yearby 4 Evansville Icemen Tickets Bill Polen $50 Gift Cert. to Paradise Ink December Drawing: Tuesday, December 17th at Circus Workers Dinner Stated Meeting to follow Secretary Jim Grace ; arabpatrol1@hotmail.com Greetings fellow Patrolmen, It's hard to believe I've been writing this article a year. Now it's time to hand the pen to someone else. I hope they enjoy it as much as I have. As I wrote the articles it gave me a sense of honor and pride for the Arab Patrol. We want to thank each and every one of you for all your hard work at the Circus this year. We know you are putting the Shrine and your unit first at this time of the year and it is greatly appreciated. It shows when we all pull together, (no matter what differences we have), what we can accomplish. This is what makes our Temple great and our units strong. As I've always written in my articles in the past, we need to remember Patrolmen that are not with us for one reason or another. Let them know we miss them and that they are in our thoughts and prayers. If we each bring one Patrolman with us that has not been to a meeting in a while, there would be standing room only. That would be so exciting! I would like to say as a unit we are very fortunate to have members who have been in the patrol for many years. These guys know what's been tried and true and have a wealth of knowledge for our unit. When we have questions and need answers we can go to any of these guys as a mentor and they will gladly help you out because they are true Patrolmen and want you and our unit to do well. I know this by experience. This is why the Patrol has been around for over 100 years. Always check the Hot Sands Calendar for Hadi events. At this time of the year there is a lot of things going on for the Shrine and also in individual units. Here's to wishing you and your families a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year! Stay safe through the holiday season and remember, we're Having Fun Helping Kids! Greetings from a swell bunch of fellows, First off we would like to extend a big thanks to all who helped, donated, and/or attended The Tartan Ball. A great time was had by all, and a few people maybe had too good a time, but that s why we re here. We re busy wrapping up the year with the last of the parades, our holiday party, and the installation of new officers. Congratulations to those who are coming into office (Randy Kissel) and thank you to those leaving office. The Highlanders enjoyed steady growth this past year and it s because of the dedication of each and every member, but mostly because we have free drinks every Wednesday night at practice. If anyone would like to join The Highlanders, just stop in any Wednesday night at 7pm for a wee dram. Musical talent is desirable, but not required. We have lots of opportunities to be involved that don t require playing music. Ryan Anthony Secretary 8 President, Mark Shaw mjshaw61@twc.com As you might have noticed we re building a new entrance and deck on the directors building. Big Thanks to Brother Neil Lynn for assisting in our new building addition. Brother Cory Hollingsworth and Steve Dimovski from Sugar Steel for getting the steel donated! I appreciate everybody who volunteered with the circus floor painting. Be sure to mail your RSVP for the Directors Christmas party by Dec. 3 rd. Officers for 2014 will be introduced at this party. We ve had lots of Football Mania winners ranging from $ $ Thanks for playing! We will be selling $10 Hoops Mania tickets come February. These tickets are based on the NCAA tournament. Welcome all NEW Nobles who recently came into the Shrine. I personally invite you to our next meeting, December 4, to see what we offer to the Temple!! If you re a NEW Noble feel free to call me at if you have questions. Have a very Merry Christmas and a Blessed New Year!! I want to say Thank You to the officers this year for their support!! See you around the Temple.

As we reach December, it is apparent that another year is almost over. My how they pass so quickly! Two nobles from Hadi LOH, Dr. Mike Murray and Curran Wilkinson, attended a Past Commander s Banquet and Ball, sponsored by Jaffa Shrine in Altoona, PA. It was an elegant occasion, good food, and lots of music for dancing. All in all, it was a very pleasant evening. The first weekend in November two nobles and their ladies from Hadi LOH traveled to Washington DC to participate in the International Association Legions of Honor Laying of the Wreath on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. This is a very solemn ceremony where we pay tribute to the unknown soldier. It was an honor to be a part of this event. We have elected new officers for next year. The new officers are: Commander, Michael Stefurak; Lt. Commander, Ned Wellmeier, PC; Adjutant, Curran Wilkinson, PC; Finance Officer, Frank Seib, PC; and Sergeant-at-Arms, Jeffery Buck Harris, PC. 10 Hot Sands Vol. 88 No. 12 December 2013 HADI HOLIDAY HUMOR! T'was the night before Christmas and all through the house, not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse. The stockings were hung by the chimney with care. They'd been worn all week and needed the air. Did you know that according to the song, "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer", Santa has twelve reindeer? Sure, in the introduction it goes "There's Dasher and Dancer and Prancer and Vixen, Comet and Cupid and Donner and Blitzen..." That makes eight reindeer. Then there's Rudolph, of course, so that makes nine. Then there's Olive. You know, "Olive the other reindeer used to laugh..." That makes ten. The eleventh is Howe. You know, "Then Howe the reindeer loved him..." Eleven reindeer. Oh, and number 12? That's Andy! "Andy shouted out with glee." The proof is in the song! LAUGHTER.THE BEST KIND OF MEDICINE!!
