THE HIGHLANDERS. Friends and families are important to Shriners and we salute them! We are all elated over the splendid showing we had in the Petersburg Labor Day parade six pipers and three drummers presented one of their best yet. Piper Mike Higdon is a miner of near Petersburg, and it was fitting that we support him on this day.and it was a great day! This was a new member, John Peterson s first parade. He is a fine new addition to the band. We are going to be very busy for the next two months selling Circus Ads and Tickets and preparing for our FIFTH Annual Tartan Ball which is November 15 th. We re starting a training class for new pipers. This would be a good time for any aspiring piper to join the class and become a piper himself. Just drop by any Wednesday at 7:00 PM. Circus Long Sleeved Polo Shirts The Temple is offering a Long Sleeved Polo Shirt to the Nobility. Cost will be: small to 2X at $40.00 each and 3X to 6X at $45.00 each. Samples are in the office for fitting. Final cutoff date is OCTOBER 15 th. DRUM CORPS BLASTS By Jerry Minto Greetings from the Hadi Drum & Bugle Corps. Hope everyone is enjoying the last warm days of the season. The circus ticket sales kickoff has been held and now it is up to all of us to do our part in selling as many tickets as possible. The circus will be here before we know it. Well, the trip to the Great Lakes Ceremonial in Cincinnati, Ohio is now history. More information on this will be forthcoming in the next issue. Since it is October, that means the West Side Fall Festival parade is upon us. Let s make every effort to put a large group on the street for this popular parade. The D & B family picnic was held this past month to the delight of everyone attending. A great crowd dressed in their best Hawaiian apparel and enjoyed great food and fellowship. A big Thank You to Josh and his officers for their efforts in making available this social event for the whole family. A large group from the Drum & Bugle Corps also enjoyed the Hadi Family Picnic held at the Discovery Lodge at Burdette Park. The food and fellowship was great and the facility was top notch. By the time this article is published we hope to have our Vice-President, John Brenner and his wife Denise back with us after their stay at the Mayo Clinic. We wish John a speedy and lasting recovery and will keep him in our prayers. A big Thank You goes to Charles and Judy Engelhardt for opening their home in Elberfeld for the After Glow following the parade in Dale. The food and fellowship was great and we appreciate it very much. Thank you to Charlie and Judy. 3 NILE NEWS By Carol Wellmeier & Gay Graper We want to thank everyone who helped in any way with the Isis Temple s Giant Rummage Sale held on August 23 rd to benefit the 2010 Supreme Session Fund. It was a great success due to the generous amount of items donated and the hard work and cooperation of many of Isis members & Hadi Nobles. Harmony in The Heartland was truly experienced by all who helped with this project. With everyone s help we raised $2, Membership Begins With Me! By Nancy Markham, PQ Congratulations to our New Members! Thank you very much for your interest and support! We are constantly striving to keep our members and gain new members. The support of Isis Temple members shows that something we have done is working! All of you that attend Stated Sessions, committee meetings, the events and socials that we have along with supporting our Ways & Means projects and those of you that act as mentors to our new members is what makes our Isis Temple an example to other temples. I am proud to say that I am a member of Isis Temple No. 41 Daughters of the Nile and I m certain that you all feel the same way. We have another opportunity, at our next Ceremonial in February 2009 to gain new members; we need your help again! A membership tea will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2008 at 2:00 PM at Hadi Temple. If you know of any prospective candidate that you would like to invite, please let us know or if you would like to help with the Tea:, we would love to have you. When you become a member of an organization, you have made a commitment to support that group of members, follow it s rules, regulations and by laws. This is just a small part of what being a member is. The true gift is the friends that you make, they last a life time. By Phil Smith Boy was there a lot of fun had at the Second Annual Wine Tasting Party! The food, the band, the wine, and the good friends made for a wonderful and fun night. This event could not be possible without all the help of the volunteers that worked all night to see that everyone enjoyed himself or herself. It is such a great feeling to know how unselfish many Nobles and their Ladies are to donate their time and talents to see others have fun. I wish to thank the Honored Ladies for their fantastic job and adding something special to the event. Then I wish to thank all the other volunteers who helped make the event a success. Thanks!!!!! The shuttle to and from the Baymont hotel by Jim Tharp was a great success and will be used again for Hadi s New Years Party. Make your plans now. Friday October 24 th is the Second Annual Great Pumpkin Caper. Bring the kids for all kinds of Halloween fun. Saturday October 25 th is the next Hadi Family Game Night. Bring the whole family and come to the temple at 6:30pm and have fun with Wii bowling, darts, cards, and board games if you want to bring some. You won t know what you re missing if you don t show up. Nobles and Ladies, there is a lot of entertainment at your Temple if you just come out and participate! The fun doesn t start until you take part. Make your New Years Party plans NOW! This year will be fun with a Roaring 20s and Gangster Theme, you know, like Flappers and Big Al Capone! Celebrate with your friends at Hadi Temple & remember the special hotel rates given us by the Baymont Hotel on the east side of Evansville. We will use the Temple courtesy van to shuttle partygoers from the Hotel and back again after the party. Get your tickets at the temple office. HONORED LADIES By Nancy Markham, President Hadi Honored Ladies met on Monday, September 15 th, the noon meal was hosted by Dorothy Doerner and Betty Worthington. Our October meeting will be held on Monday, October 20 th at 5:00 PM hosted by Jane Robey, Al Lindy and Jackie Arman. We invite you to join us and share in the food, fun and fellowship. MARSHALS MINUTES Nobles our Parade season is starting to come to an end for this year. By the time you get this there will be only a hand full of parades left. With the circus rapidly approaching, your Temple needs to be seen in numbers by the public. In our best behavior, let's stir up some enthusiasm & get on the streets to promote "CIRCUS & SHRINEDOM." Our next PARADE is Fall Festival. Sat. evening Oct.11th. Line Up at 5:30 on 6 th Ave. at Franklin St. Try to be there early as it gets very congested. Rizpah Fall Ceremonial OCT.18th. about Noon. To get there take 41s. to the Pennyrile Pwky. to the Hanson exit W. to Hwy 41. Turn S and travel approximately 3.4 mi. Look to your left for Rizpah Shrine. Come early and sit in on 2nd session. It's a fun time. Follow to parade line up after session is over. After parade, a great hospitality is held back at Rizpah Shrine. Hadi Fall Ceremonial is Nov.11th. Parade LU and time TBD. Just a reminder, Hadi's parking lot will be closed until after the parade to all, except parade vehicles. 4 PATROL POINTS By Steve Barnett Greetings Nobles, I hope all is well. Thanks to all the nobles that helped cook for the Shrine family picnic. The barbeque chicken was outstanding as usual. Also, Richard and Paul did a great job calling bingo. By the time you read this the fall festival will only be a few days away. This starts a very busy season for the Patrol and all Shriners. Please make sure you come out and support the fall festival trailer. Everyone s help is needed. Also, don t forget the Fall Festival parade. It would be great to see 20 or more patrolmen on the street for the parade. As we look towards November please start making preparations to come out and join us at the circus. We always have a great time as the ushers. This is a great way to meet the public and wear our fez proudly. WEIRD NOTES By Charlie Howard Greetings Nobles from the desert oasis of the Hadi Oriental Band! Well, it s that time of year again, the West Side Nut Club Fall Festival! Of course, the Hadi Oriental band will once again be serving up those delicious food items down there, so be sure to stop in and help us out. Speaking of help, we sure could use that in getting the food trailer setup, workers for the week, and tear down. If you can work any during the week, please let Randy Eades know ASAP! Thanks to all those you participated in the Dale parade! It was great fun and wonderful fellowship as well! Don t forget; make those parades if you can, that s where we show our stuff! Don t forget, Saturday October 11 th is the Fall Festival parade. Let s pack the big trailer and see our lights in action! I m keeping it short this month, but remember, if you haven t been down in a while, come on down & see what you ve been missing! The Oriental Band is always looking for a few good Shriners to join our band of nomads and we always have fun at whatever we do! HADI SHRINE STATED MEETING TUESDAY OCTOBER 28, 2008 ~ 7:00 PM Notice is hereby given that the stated meeting of Hadi Shrine A.A.O.N.M.S. will be held at the Mosque on Tuesday, October 28, 2008 for the purpose of transacting such business as may regularly come before the meeting. Your attention is called to Section 3.1 of Hadi Shriners By-Laws. ARTICLE 3 Temple Meetings & Ceremonials Stated Meetings ~ A stated meeting shall be held on the fourth Tuesday in April, the fourth Tuesday in July, the fourth Tuesday in October and the third Tuesday in December at 7:00 p.m. the exact hour of all other meetings, including the annual meeting shall be designated by the Potentate. PROPOSED AMENDMENT Be it resolved that Article 9.02 be changed as follows: ARTICLE 9.02, as it currently reads: 9.02 DUES: The annual dues of this Temple shall be eighty-two dollars and no cents ($82.00) payable in advance by all members on or before the first day of January of each year, except life members, but including candidates initiated during the year who shall pay dues for the first year in accordance with the time of year they were initiated. Article 9.02, as it will read if amended: 9.02 DUES: The annual dues of this Temple shall be one hundred thirty dollars and no cents ($130.00) payable in advance by all members on or before the first day of January 2009; one hundred fifty five dollars and no cents ($155.00) on or before the first day of January 2010; and one hundred eighty dollars and no cents ($180.00) on or before the first day of January 2011 with a 3% cost of living increase annually thereafter, except life members, but including candidates initiated during the year who shall pay dues for the first year in accordance with the time of year they were initiated. SECTION ELECTION REGULATIONS (a) The printing, publication, circulating or distribution of resolutions, letters, telegrams, tickets, s or other devices, by a Noble, suggesting, recommending, opposing or containing names of proposed candidates for office in their temple is prohibited. (b) For any violation of (a), the Imperial Potentate may suspend any offending Nobles, and he may declare the election of officers void and order a new election.
