You may have noticed our sign on the west side of the building that not only advertises our hospitals, but now also advertises our screening clinics that was paid for by the Hadi Hospital Staff Transportation Fund. The electronic sign on the front of our building now advertises our hospital and screening clinics, which we can bill back to Hospital Staff to help off set the cost of the sign. 5 A Special Thank You A Big Tip of the Fez Greetings Nobles, ladies, DeMolay young men, friends & volunteers all. The 2017 ShrinersFest is now in the books. It could not have happened without the hard work of both past and present committees. Many members and friends came together to make this year a success. We also had an enormous amount of corporate sponsorships and so many in-kind donations I can t begin to list them all. Thank You Evansville businesses! Now that this ShrinersFest is history, it is now time to work on Hadi s next two fund raisers: the Sportsman s Raffle and the ALL IMPORTANT and PHENOMENAL 84th Annual Hadi Shrine Circus. Hadi s circus is known throughout Shrinedom and the circus community, to be one of (if not) the finest circus in the land. I encourage each of you to roll up your sleeves one more time to assist Ill. Sir Joe Vezzoso and his committee in having a record year for our circus by SELLING THOSE SCRIPT TICKETS and volunteering your time at the circus. I personally thank each of you for your hard work. I m so proud of you, and I ll see YOU at the circus. ~Roger Fuchs, PP Chairman, 2017 ShrinersFest A special Thank You to the local businesses that generously donated to our 2017 ShrinersFest Meet & Greet and to our volunteer break room: Outback Steakhouse - Trey Schenk Mission BBQ Evansville Acropolis - Doros Hadjisavva Roca Bar - Jerry Ritter Texas Roadhouse - Josh Roeder Spudz N Stuff - Jason Dicken Marx BBQ RC Cola - Bryan Dooley Culligan Water Walmart Boonville Sam s Club Evansville Robin Marshall (Director) Darren Lewis (Membership) Including a big Thank You to those who helped serve food at the Meet and Greet including: Noble Mike McKinney (Shrine Photographer) and Lady Kathy Noble Scott Thompson (Meet & Greet Chairman, Color Guard Captain) and Lady Meredith (Meet & Greet Co-Chairman) Nobles and Ladies, All Shriners and ladies who came out to 2017 ShrinersFest to volunteer his or her time, you each played a very important role! 6 Hospital Staff Captain Butch Carl extends his appreciation for all nobles and friends who made the 2017 Hospital Staff booth at ShrinersFest a huge success. Our Ladies Night in July was held at the Log Inn and again broke records in attendance. The folks at the Log Inn put on a feast, as usual, and the fellowship made the evening a pure pleasure. The Hospital Staff has started a raffle for a 1976 MG convertible, fully restored to mint condition, donated by PC Richard Smith in memorial of his late spouse, past Nile Queen Shirley Day Smith ( ).... Purchase tickets at the Hadi Shrine office for $25 each or $100 for 5. All money raised will be donated to the Hospital Staff Building Fund. The hospital staff needs help from all UCOs and Shriners to make this raffle a success! Contact Mark Shaw to check out tickets to sell as soon as possible, as time is of the essence. Arab Patrol Greetings Fellow Patrolmen. Welcome to our 4 new members in the Patrol. We had a lot of fun at our outside July BBQ meeting. We inducted 4 new members and Terry Wolf did the cooking so everyone ate until they could not move. Everyone played corn hole and the champion is... well, maybe we need a play-off. It s Arab Patrol RAFFLE TIME! Buy your raffle ticket and for your chance to win a Traeger Texas Elite Pellet Grill. Tickets are only $10 each or 3 for $25. We ll hold the drawing November 1 or as soon as all the tickets are sold. 7 Mariners Log Making Waves, Pylons, and Planes Making waves was the recipe for the Mariners during the ShrinersFest this year. A new experience was had with 35-foot pylons in the air for the Paradigm team with working Mariner Travis and Admirals Andrea and Heather. Mariners Admirals Lady Kayla and Lady Yonetta working on the river Mariner Travis Laflen and Admirals Andrea and Heather working pylons during ShrinersFest 2017 As many witnessed, the waves and wind tested the skills of the Mariners. Sec. Mike Sollman and I held strongly to the pylon (balloon) while I was raised from the barge several times by the high winds. At one point, I thought they would find me in Ohio. Vice Commodore Sam Byers and Brother Travis Laflin crewed the second pylons barge with their ladies (aka Admirals) with the Paradigm team flying near. Holding down centerline and picket line positions were Mariners Ronnie Markham, Past Potentate; Commander Jeff Baker; and Dan Brown. Ten non-nobles also volunteered with their boats. A Tip of the Fez goes to Mariner Ron Riecken s daughter, Katie, who donated two large boats and crews for ShrinersFest. A Tip of the Fez also goes to my lady, Kayla, and all the Admirals for their help and support with the Mariners. WOW 1976 MGB Roadster Raffle My longtime friend, Richard Smith, has been a member of Hadi Shrine for more than 55 years, and during his journey with the Hospital Staff he has made 185 trips to the hospitals over the years. We have some very exciting news: Richard has restored a 1976 MG Roadster, which he has donated to Hadi Shrine for a raffle. The Mariners will draw the winning ticket Saturday, September 23, at Hadi Temple. Tickets are currently on sale for $25 each or 5 for $100. This car is a show car - don t miss out on the opportunity to own this car. Stop by the Hadi Temple office to purchase tickets. More details will follow. Mariners Events Rural King is back on and scheduled for Saturday, August 5, at 8:00am. Don t miss this event where good times are had on Morgan Avenue and where we again will have smoked chicken. Mariners Summer Party will be at the Mariners Club re-scheduled for Saturday, August 26 at 4:00pm. We will be providing burgers so if possible, bring a covered dish, and, as always, BYOB. This will be a exciting event for all; family and friends are also welcome. StrassenFest parade in Jasper is quickly approaching, and on Sunday, August 6, the SS Mariners will depart Inland Marina at 9:30am Central Time, headed for Jasper, and the parade starts at 12:00pm Central Time. If possible, contact any bridge member about attending, because it s a long way to pull the float and expensive if the turn out is low. Let s plan on meeting and riding together. The Jasper parade is one of the most interesting events of the season. See MARINERS LOG pg 11 7

8 Drum & Bugle Corps Blast Greeting Nobles! from the members of the Hadi Drum and Bugle Corps. As many of you already know, we ve begun a slow process of renovating our room. This past month, we were able to further this endeavor by purchasing a very nice, sophisticated beverage refrigerator. We recycled our old one and it had a purchase date on it from 1984! If you ve not been to a practice or a meeting lately, now is a good time to come back. Or, if you re a newly made noble, come on by and wet your whistle with an icy cold beverage during one of our practice sessions. As always, ALL NOBLES WELCOME. It s not too early to be thinking about the GLSA parade in Springfield, Illinois, September More information about this will be forthcoming. We would really like to put a large group on the street. The Drum and Bugle Corps would like to thank the members who worked the all the entrance gates to ShrinersFest and also to the great amount of members and friends who performed various duties during this grand celebration. Your hard work and dedication is greatly appreciated. A lively group of D&B members were in attendance at the Evansville Otters game on July 27. This has become an annual affair with a lot of food, drink and baseball that s always enjoyed by all. If you ve not participated in this, you don t know what you re missing. The Hadi Shrine Family Picnic is Sunday, August 20. If you plan to attend, please bring a dessert. Also, if you d like to help out or participate in any way, please contact Tim Goin ( ). I know he currently needs help with setup, serving, and clean-up. (Which is basically everything!!) The fifth annual Sportsman s Raffle will be Friday, September 8. Gates open at 6pm- party starts at 7pm. Our unit officers have extra tickets for the members to sell. Please make arrangements to get some - contact Vice-President, Neal Morgan. Our members hope everyone is having a fun-filled, safe summer! The next D&B stated meeting will be held on Saturday, August 11. Hope to see you there. Hadi Shriners gift shop at the Hadi Temple Office New Items Arriving Daily Open Monday thru Friday, 7 to 5 (812) Ladies Items, too! Motor Corps I hope everyone had a wonderful Fourth of July; holidays are for spending time with family and friends. We have some fundraisers coming up! Sunday, August 6, is another Black Coal event, which will be held on the back side of Interlake. We also have a couple of events in September: Sunday, September 3, will be the Evansville Shingdig and Monday, September 4, Labor Day at the Temple parking lot. Be sure and come to the meeting so we can decide about these two events. The Circus Ad Protection is over, but we still need you to sell more circus ads to help make this year a success, and also remember to sell discounted tickets prior to the circus. 8 I want to take this time to thank all our members who have helped with our fundraisers this year. I know it has taken a lot from you all, but reflecting back, I have seen a lot of camaraderie amongst our unit working these fundraisers. For those of you who could not make these fundraising events you are missing all of this, so please, if you can, try to make some of the one s this year. THANK YOU FOR ALL OF YOUR HARD WORK ~Ralph A. Pigman, President Motor Corps

9 Legion of Honor Notes Greetings from Hadi Legion of Honor. As 2017 keeps slipping by, we are now into August. ShrinersFest 2017 is now past and it seems to have been a success. A great big Thank You to all the nobles and guests who helped to make it a success. After the rains passed on Friday, we were certainly blessed with some beautiful weather. The Great Lakes Shrine Association Legion of Honor will have their annual convention, which will be hosted by the Legion nobles of Murat Shrine, in Indianapolis from August 9-13, Looking farther into the future, the Hadi LOH Picnic will once again be hosted by Ned and Rose Wellmeier at their home in Warrick County. This event will be Sunday, September 17. There will be lots of good food, cold beverages, and as always, a washer pitching contest. We will be eating at 2:00 P.M. Meat and drinks are furnished, but carry-in (covered) dishes are welcome. If you plan to attend, please phone the Wellmeiers so they know how much food to prepare ( ). Hadi LOH meets the 4th Monday each month at 7:00 P. M. at Hadi Temple. We always dine with our ladies prior to the meeting in the Red Fez Restaurant. ~Curran Wilkinson, Adjutant Remember! 10 Funsters Are you kidding me? it s August already. It seems as if we were just putting away our Christmas stuff. Well, let me tell you what the Funsters are doing. We are busy participating in the Otter ballgames and a bunch of local events. We have just had three new clowns join the Funsters and they are: George Barker, Anthony Miller, and Christopher Frymire, so be sure to give them a BIG welcome! We are saddened by the loss of Joe JOJO Herron. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family. It was a great honor for the Funsters to present a plaque to the owner of the Evansville Otters, Mr. Bill Bussing, for his support of the Funsters and Red Sneaker Fund. Until the next time, keep smiling. ~George Tickles Porth Hadi Funsters present Evansville Otters owner Bill Bussing with Sneaker Fund plaque in recognition of his support.
