Vidalia Onions are either here or fast approaching, so let s secure those orders for those great onions. Chairman Charles Engelhardt will be glad to get you what you need to make this a successful fundraiser. Ladies Night was held during the month of April and was enjoyed by all in attendance. The D & B has always had a history of having great social events. The Drum & Bugle Corps would like to welcome all new nobles to Hadi Temple and would like to extend to one and all a warm invite to join this great unit. You do not have to have any musical talent, just a desire to have a good time & meet some great fellow Shriners. The Paper Crusade will be held on Saturday, May 30 th. This is a great way to get information to the general public on the fantastic job our Hospitals are doing. Even though the showing of members was very limited; the meeting overall went very well! The Bridge is committed & focused on setting a new platform for our monthly meetings. With spring right on our doorstep, it is time to once again fire those grills up at the Evansville Flea Market. We definitely want to see a greater participation at this event the first weekend of each month! Please also look at your calendar of events I handed out in January. May on is very busy with cooking, parades, work days at the camp, and Temple Events. Please call Commodore Robin Marshall, or any officer on the Bridge for times and dates. From the Bridge and the existing membership, we would like to welcome all new Mariners who have joined the club this year. The Bridge would like to see a full ship of the old and the new with a greater attendance at every meeting and event. I encourage all members to get active in what we are doing in 2009 and have a voice! A Special Mariner Wave to Past Potentate Dick Phillips. Welcome aboard the Mariners Club! A Tip of the fez to the Commodore, Dave Wiley, and all the dedicated Mariners who have worked hard on revitalizing the camp! The camp revitalization project is a top priority for our Commodore and the Bridge this year. Every Mariner is encouraged to get involveed with the work days & bring our camp back to life! Also, from Past Potentate, Past Commodore Ronnie Markham. I have been asked by him to encourage every Mariner to join the IASYC (International Association of Shrine Yacht Clubs)! Annual Membership is $18 month. Currently Past Commodore, Past Potentate Ken Wendt is the International Commodore. For our Mariners who are members, please make sure to stay up to date by reading the Spring Yachtsman. Great info about what s going on in the club and about the Mid Winter Meeting that took place in February. Mark Your Calendars: 5/8: Onions will be delivered. 5/1-5/3: Cooking at Evansville Flea Market. 5/2: Hot sands Ceremonial and Parade at Temple. 5/15: Jonahs Fish Fry at Temple. 5/16: Shriners Fest Bierstube at Temple. 5/30: Paper Crusade from 9 to 4 (please watch for announced location). All Mariners are also asked to be a part of the Friday Night dinners and entertainment in the Arabian Room. Congrats to Potentate John Hudson, Chad, and his staff for taking the Arabian Room to a new level! Discussed Business and Motions: Also, the time is upon us to start selling those much needed ad sales! In the past few years, the commissions we have earned from these sales have gave our club much needed revenue to support our club and great temple. The membership approved funds with a not to exceed amount for the camp revitalization project. Also, be looking soon for a new committee chaired by Wendell Webster that is volunteering their time to call all Mariners on times and dates of upcoming events. This is another way the Bridge is wanting to get old and new involved and make things happen this year! Trailer Committee gave report on trailer needing purchased. This is still another top item and the search continues on! More to come! I am also please to announce that the membership unanimously voted to Make Past Commodore Bob Scraper a Lifetime Mariner! We do not want to leave any Mariner behind on shore this year! The Mariners want to also remember our fallen and sick members. Although there presence is missed & remembered, we all stand by their side. Our goal in 2009 is again to aim for success! Participation, Planning, Attendance, & Membership needs to be our focus! I look forward to watching this club s membership grow through camaraderie & making decisions through careful planning and execution! I want to reemphasize that our monthly meetings are now at the river camp the 3 rd Wednesday of every month. The Mariners continued focus is and always will be to give a 100% in any job we take on and generate revenue for our club to help the temple and the hospitals in any way possible! Our mission is to proudly display Having Fun, Helping Kids! The Mariners always extend an open invitation and welcome any new or current Hadi Noble this year to join our great club! Come jump in the boat and see what the buzz is about! Why not join a great club that has rapidly grown in membership and been a vital part to the temple s family tree? The Mariners voyage looks to be exciting! We ride; we don t march in the parades! Let s continue making 2009 a great and rewarding voyage!! Don t Miss the Boat! You can obtain a petition for membership from the Pr. Recorder or any officer. Once again Congratulations to Queen Sharon and her new officers. COLOR GUARD COMMENTS Greetings, Nobles. Looks like the unit did a great job with our Vidalia Onion Sales campaign this year, selling over a hundred bags more than last year. Great job, Nobles & thanks to Past Captain Dave Schnakenburg for heading up this year s sales program. Speaking of sales, the 76 th annual Hadi Shrine Circus Ad Sales program has kicked off, and we can use each unit member s help in, at the very least, buying one and selling one ad this year. If we could get every unit Noble to participate in this program, we would see the same type of success as in our Onion Sales. So when 1 st Lt. Chad Emsweller contacts you about circus ads, let him know you re willing to help! Thanks also to Chad & the officers for the great hospitality at the Pote s Ball. Everyone who attended had a great time, and teaming up with the Nobles from Gibson and Pike Co. insured there was plenty of food and refreshment for all. Our first parade opportunity this year will be the spring ceremonial on May 2 nd. Break out the white coat, and join us as we welcome new nobles to our great fraternity. Plan on making a day of it, and join all the Nobles at the temple. Better yet, sign a petition and bring in a new member! The Arabian Room is having a Mother s Day Buffet this year, a great way to reward Mom, or Grandma, and treat yourself to some great food and first-class service. We had a unit table in the Arabian Room before the meeting in April, had a nice crowd, but can always use a few more, so plan to join your fellow Color Guard Nobles and ladies for a great buffet dinner before our next meeting, which is Friday, May 1 st at 7:00 pm in the unit room. Hope to see you all there! PATROL POINTS By: Angelo Ruehmkorff / Secretary~09 arabpatrol@hotmail.com Having fun and helping kids! That is what the Arab Patrol is all about, and we are doing exactly that. Patrolmen, thanks for all you do for this unit. Because of your efforts we have again donated a sizeable amount of money to our hospitals. Each & every one of you are an important asset to this unit. A tip of the fez to our President Bill Garrett for a great job leading us and encouraging participation. I would like to give a personal THANK YOU to Jim Kanzler, Fred Arhelger and Bill McClain. Gentlemen, it was great to see you at the April meeting and we would appreciate your continued support. Nobles, come join the Arab Patrol for fun & fellowship. Our meetings are on the first Friday of each 7:30 P.M. Ladies, keep in mind that the Ladies Patrol also meets on the first Friday at 7:30 P.M. The Ladies Patrol is open to the wives, widows and ladies of any Arab Patrolman. Ladies, your participation is needed. Mark your calendars for the first Friday of each 7:30 P.M. The 2009 Potentate s Ball was FANTASTIC! Thanks to all of the Patrolmen and Ladies that pitched in and helped make our hospitality suite a success. A BIG THANK YOU to Illustrious John Hudson and his Lady Julie for all of the time and thought they put in to this event to make it successful! Please DON T FORGET that our onions should be here on May 8 th. Our onion chairman Jim Kemp along with the officers and other volunteers will be coordinating pick up. Patrolmen, if you ordered onions it is very important that you pay for them and pick them up on time. SHRINERSFEST is approaching us quickly and is a huge opportunity for Hadi Temple. Fellas we need your HELP. The fish fry is on Friday and is open to the public. We will need help with parking and serving the meal. We need help setting up for the car show and band jam. We need help cleaning up. We need help selling half pot tickets. The bottom line is if we all pitch in we can make sure that the event is successful. Guys come down on Friday, May 15 th and Saturday, May 16 th and find Russell Redmon, Tony May or Tom Land. They will position you where your helping hand will benefit us most. Guys we are looking to have a big turnout for the Spring Ceremonial on May 2nd. Long time Patrolman Illustrious Sir Paul Sowders P.P. will be the Class Honoree. Captain Mac has asked for our help directing the new members in the RIGHT DIRECTION. This is our first official parade for Check your parade attire and come on down to join the fun and camaraderie. Dates to remember: Arab Patrol Meeting Spring ceremonial & parade Cinco De Mayo at the Temple Fish Fry Shrinersfest Divan Ladies card party Paper crusade. IMPORTANT REMINDERS: Pay your dues. Fellas, it is May and for some reason some of you have not paid yet. I want to STRONGLY ENCOURAGE you to get with Tony May and get this taken care of. If for some reason you can not make it to the meeting, mail the $15 to the office Attn: Arab Patrol so that Tony can get your membership card to you. The Arab Patrol does not want to see anyone left behind! Several of you have moved or changed phone numbers. I have created an address arabpatrol@hotmail.com to communicate with you on a regular basis. We want you to know what your unit is doing. In order to accomplish this, we need you to take a few minutes to us your current contact information. (Your name, Spouses name, address, home phone #, cell phone #, and address) SOMETHING TO CONSIDER: Patrolmen, as I am sure all of you are aware, Hadi Temples general fund needs our help. Expenses continue to rise and income cannot seem to keep up. We all plan for events in our lives, jobs, marriage, kids, retirement etc. When we get to estate planning, we have an opportunity to have a huge impact on Hadi Temples general fund. Plan and consider gifting a portion of your assets to the Hadi Temple general fund. Real generosity toward the future lies in giving all to the present. Commit to be active in your unit! HAVING FUN & HELPING KIDS I AM PROUD TO BE A SHRINER

From the look of things, everyone had a ball. If you didn t have a good time on Good Friday Night you must have missed the Kid s Easter Party. Check out the pictures on the web for a look at Hadi Temple entertainment. The children got to sit on the Easter Bunny s lap and have their picture taken by members of the Funsters. Then they got an Easter basket, candy and stuffed bunny. The Funsters came out in force, painting faces (what great art work they did) and they made every kind of balloon thing you can imagine. I think they spent the winter practicing. I thank them for their great support of this Hadi Temple event and giving our kids and grand kids great memories. This night was what family is all about. But it could not have happened without the help of so many people in the background doing the work. Thanks, to all who helped decorate and brought cookies for the kids and big kids to munch on. A big thanks goes to everyone who worked during the Kid s Easter party and made it a big success. It was your help that made it so. I appreciate the Easter Bunny & her helper giving up their anniversary night to entertain the kids. The magician was such a hit, he has been asked to come back next year. He kept the kids and their folks entertained with his slight of hand and magic. The kids loved taking part in his act and family members took many, many pictures. If you missed it this year, it was your loss. Make plans to be there in Absolute Solutions, Inc. Need a website or know someone who does?
