Representing Hadi Shriners was a huge honor. The warm welcome and kind words to me and my family from all the UCO s will never be forgotten. The Hadi Divan of 2018 was the greatest team of Shriners I ve ever served beside. I can t say enough praise to them and their ladies for the unforgettable memories and laughs we have shared. They are truly the finest people I have ever worked beside. Charla and I will cherish the memories forever. A special thanks to David Tang and his crew. They made the impossible task of our Red Fez Restaurant seem so very possible. We finally have a great restaurant that serves award winning food and has a good financial future (awesome job, David and crew). I m positive that Hadi Temple is in good hands for years to come. The future Divan and their ladies are very passionate about going forward and they are all very hard workers with big dreams. I will have to say I literally could not have done it without Charla. She is the glue that held it all together, my best friend and wife of 30 plus years. Sam Byers and Ralph Pigman did an outstanding job in 2018 (making me look good isn t easy)! So, as I say farewell, I will not be going far away, simply moving on to the next adventure. It was all a very special time in our lives and quite the journey. The installation will follow the Stated Meeting and is open to all. If you would like your lady to attend, you are more than welcome to do so. We hope to see a great turn out to welcome the newly appointed officers and wish them luck in the upcoming year! 2019 POTENTATES BALL This year s Potentates Ball will be held on Saturday, March 2nd at Holiday Inn Airport. Hospitality night will be on Friday, March 1st. All information can be found on page 15 of this issue of the Hot Sands. Please call Hadi Office with any questions at Ext DUES ACH PAYMENTS For all Nobles who would like to have their annual dues payments automatically withdrawn from their checking accounts on a monthly basis, please have all information submitted no later than January 31st. Please fill out the Dues ACH form which can be found at Hadi Office and return with a voided check by this date. For all current ACH participants, if you would like to continue to have your dues withdrawn, you will still need to fill out the ACH form giving us permission to transfer funds. 5 From the Recorder s Corner I hope everyone had a splendid Holiday. I know I enjoyed being with my family and friends. The year is almost over as we embark on a new year with the same excitement as I am still looking for dues to be paid, there are a few people who owe 2018 and 2019 dues. Please call my office and we can always work something out. If you know of a Noble who is in an Extended Care facility, please let us know. If a Noble has passed away, please notify the office. Sometimes with out of town Nobles we do not get the information about our Nobles as often as we would like. Remember, we are having our first Stated meeting this month, so come out and watch the installation of your newly elected and appointed officers of the Hadi Temple. After the business meeting we will have installation which is open. If you would like to bring your lady for the installation, you may do so! Thanks, Ralph Pigman Recorder OFFICIAL NOTICE Hadi Shriners Stated Meeting Notice & Installation of Officers Do you have a photo that you would like to see featured in an issue of the Hot Sands Newsletter?! TUESDAY, JANUARY 15th, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. Notice is hereby given that the Stated Meeting of Hadi Shriners will be held at the Hadi Temple on Tuesday, January 15th, 2019, at 7:00 PM for the purpose of transacting such business as may regularly come before the meeting. Your attention is called to Article III, Sections 3.1 and 3.3 of the Hadi Shriners By-Laws: We would love to see the things happening around Hadi and with our UCO s! 3.1 Stated Meetings. A stated meeting shall be held on the fourth Tuesday in April, the fourth Tuesday in July, the fourth Tuesday in October and the third Tuesday in December at 7:00 p.m. The exact hour of all other meetings, including the annual meeting, shall be designated by the potentate. 6 Arab Patrol 2018 was a busy year for the Patrol. From parades to festivals and the Circus, the officers of the Arab Patrol would like to thank everyone who helped with all of our events. Terry Rumble would like to thank the Patrolmen and their ladies for coming to the Patrol Christmas party and extend his thanks to the Divan that also attended. Congratulations to the newly installed officers as well. I would also like to give a personal thanks to the guys who showed up and helped with the cooking and serving at the Shriners kids Christmas party. The Arab Patrol breakfast will be held on February 23rd, We will start cooking at 6 a.m., and eat at 8 a.m. It would be nice to see a lot of guys come out to help cook and assist with clean up. Starting in January s meeting, there will be a sign-up sheet for onions. The sheet will be out monthly during our meetings until it is time to turn the order in. This is a good fundraiser for the Patrol and for the Temple. Would like to remind all Patrolmen that our meetings are held on the first Friday of every month, except for the month of December due to the Christmas party. Also, if you haven t been down to a meeting in a while, please plan to attend a meeting soon for fun and fellowship. Last but not least, there is a stated meeting coming up in January to install our new Potentate, Rod McDonald. The date of installation will be announced at the Patrol meeting on January 4th. This is your Secretary for 2018, signing off! Oriental Band Happy New Year!!! The members of Hadi Shrine Oriental Band hope that everyone had a wonderful and fun filled holiday. Congratulations to our Circus Committee and all involved in putting together the exciting entertainment and performances for this year s circus. To all our Nobility who sold ads, tickets, painted the floor or worked the circus in once capacity or another this year, Thank you! The parking and hospitality room for our workers were much improved this year and they were enjoyed by all who took advantage of them. Well done Hadi! Our December business meeting was well attended as our newly elected officers took their respective positions and they are as follows: President Steve Hendrix, VP Logan Turpin, Sec. Denis Gentry, Treas. Terry Eades, and musical director Jeremy Hoesli. Congratulations to these Nobles. Fellows, we have elected a good slate. Now, how about give them our full support for next year! The OB Christmas party was held on Dec 8th, as a lovely evening of dining and fellowship was enjoyed by all. Much thanks to President Steve Hendrix for putting together this event and for the nice gifts for our ladies. Congratulations once again to Keith Schnepper on being named our Bandsman of the Year, a well-deserved honor. Nobles, it s that time of year again and your OB dues for 2019 have become payable once again. I d appreciate it if we could get these paid in a timely manner. I ll send out due s notices around the middle of January and I m looking forward to another strong showing from you, our members, on payment of dues. Once we have our yearly activities set and dated, I will be sure that you receive a copy of them. Many thanks to Ill Sir Mike Taylor and his Divan from the members of Hadi Oriental band for a good year and to our Divan Rep John Nelson for keeping us well informed. Nobles, this starts a new year. Why not make that resolution now to get more active within your unit and Hadi Temple by attending more activities, maybe our Jamboree and more participation during the parade season? Get active, get involved, enjoy being a Shriner! There is a lot going on! Come on down and join in the fun! We invite all Nobles who are looking to join a unit to stop by our Oasis some Tuesday evening around 7 and check us out. You need not be musically inclined that s for sure! We have a little something for everyone! Remember our family, friends and all Nobles with health issues this Holiday Season and let s pray that they receive divine blessings for a speedy recovery. 7 Drum & Bugle Hospital Staff Happy New Year from the members and friends of the Hadi Drum and Bugle Corps! We hope you had a joyous holiday season. The 2018 parade season is now history and we can now turn our attention to the upcoming 2019 parades. Now is the time to recruit new members and be ready for the first parade of the season. The last week of November and the month of December was a busy time for our unit. We worked many hours at the circus, had a pizza party at the Roca Bar following the Friday performance of the circus, marched in the Evansville Christmas parade attended the circus workers dinner, went Christmas caroling and enjoyed our annual Christmas party. Congratulations to Illustrious Mike Taylor on a very successful year as Potentate and we wish Rod McDonald much success on his upcoming year as the 2019 Potentate. Our Drum and Bugle Corps officers for 2019 will be: Dan Mayes - President, John Bogan- Vice President, Will Brenner - Secretary, and Jim Scheller - Treasurer. This is a good time for all of us to make a new year s resolution to support these officers in any way we can and make 2019 a great year for the D&B. Thanks to Neal Morgan, our past president, for a great job he did in leading our unit for He donated a lot of his time and personal money to help our unit succeed. A new year means our membership dues need to be paid ASAP. Please see Jim Scheller for this. Our first stated meeting will be January 11,2019 8:00pm An upcoming event will be the East-West Shrine Football Game on a Saturday, mid-january. The D&B will be hosting this. Again, please help the officers round up donations to raffle off. Much appreciated. Here s to a wonderful year. Greetings from the Hadi Hospital Staff, Well it s a new year and we are all looking forward to thing s getting back to normal. Yeah right. First, we need to say welcome and congratulations to the newly elected officers in the Hospital Staff. As always, we are confident we will have the leadership to continue serving are kids and keep our Nobles involved, enlightened and committed to our cause. This year promises to be a busy one with new projects abound. As we begin this year we reflect back and sometimes wonder, do I really need to be this involved? Do I need to make all these trips? Can t someone else do this? Well, let me say this. YES!! We need everyone s support and involvement. There are no unimportant jobs when it comes to our kids. Our kids depend on us and we will not let them down. Because of your efforts we make progress. Wouldn t it be great to some day know we worked ourselves right out of a job? That all our kids were healthy. Until that day comes, we keep unloading onions, parking cars, cooking in trailers for events, selling butts (the pork kind) riding motorcycles in toy runs, having a Circus and so much more. So yes, we need everyone to keep on being an active part of our great Hadi Temple and its awesome units. Take a breath, relax and we will see you at the Shrine. Have a great Year!! The car was presented to Bree and Phillip of the St. Louis Shriners Hospital for Children to be displayed in the front lobby of the hospital. 7

At our Christmas Party in December, the staff of the Red Fez, formerly the Arabian Room, served an excellent feast to our group, Potentate Mike and his Lady, as well as many other divan members and our very special guests. Entertainment was provided by Andy on keyboard and vocals. We are fortunate to have been able to book Andy, as he was on break from the Beastie Boys. New officers were sworn in, legally this year. Officers for the mighty highlanders for 2019 are Kerry the Terrible as President, Josh as VP, Scott as record man, and Ryan as Treasurer. A new office this year is Logan as Chaplin. We hope Logan can console our members that have trouble coping with the pressure s associated with living up to the standards of Papa Doc. We hope the Shrine Office reads this list of officers since we usually do not turn in the list in time for anything. We hope to be part of the Stated Meeting this month to pipe in the new guy. 9 Honored Ladies Hostesses for the November Hadi Honored Ladies meeting were the Officers. We had several special guests attend this meeting. Our Divan representative joining us for lunch was Sam Byers, Parade Marshal. He filled us in on some of the activites at Hadi. We were really pleased to once again have back with us our Hadi Representative, Past Potentate, Phil Smith and his Lady Charlotta. It is so good to have you two back home again. We invited Mike Palmer, Captain of Hadi s Hospital Staff, to join us for lunch. Della Kokomoor presented a check for $483 to Mike for the Hospital Staff s Quest for a Million Pennies Project. Gail Hawkins also presented to Mike $150 in gift cards for various fast food restaurants and a cash donation of $30 from the ladies to help the Hospital Staff in providing meals for patients and family members they transport to the hospitals. Thanks to all of you who helped make these donations possible. We also welcomed a new member to our group. Her name is Jane Harmon. We hope Jane enjoyed her afternoon and will continue to attend our meetings. Our program for the meeting was a project of making Christmas Cards. Jeannie Boling and her daughter, Andrea, had little baggies each containing pieces of paper cut out for putting together a card. We made 3 different designs. We were really proud of ourselves when we saw our finished product. We have some talented ladies in our group. Thank you Jeannie and Andrea. At the Pike County Shrine Club s Christmas party, a mid 70 s pink Chevy pedal convertible was auctioned off for proceeds to be donated directly to St. Louis Shriners Hospital.
