I would also like to thank everyone who helped out at the Open House on Memorial Day. We will have about 20 to 25 members from our American Legion Family going to the Department Convention July 6-8th. Red shirts on Thursday and white shirts on Friday. The American Legion Family will start taking turns doing Friday night dinners in September. Please come out to the September 12th meeting. We will have our first reading of the new Constitution and Bylaws a copy of which is available in the canteen for anyone to read. The Legion will have an Early Bird Luncheon in October for anyone who has paid their dues before September 30th. There will not be a Commanders/Can Party in September this year. Instead, we will have a 91st Birthday Party for Nanticoke Post 6. We are looking for motorcycle riders from the Legion, Auxiliary and SAL to start a Legion Chapter. Jack Canfield Once again, there has been a lot of activity at Post 6 as we get ready for the upcoming summer months. Repairs have recently been completed to the entrance to the canteen and the roof. Further repairs will be started on the ceiling in the canteen, as well as electrical repairs throughout the Post 6 building. The Memorial Day celebration this year was held indoors at the Seaford High School auditorium due to inclement weather (for you Marines, it was raining!). This was only the 2nd time in over 8 years that this has happened. Estimated attendance was just over 300 people. Finally, I want to reach out to anyone who has a little free time on their hands who would like to help out our Post. We are in need of someone to step up and take over the duties that Bob McClain and his wife, Lee, have been doing for about 3 years and that is putting the Newsletter together. This is a bi-monthly publication, so the commitment is for 6 issues a year, and if Bob McClain can do it, I know you can certainly handle the responsibility (I wonder if Bob even reads this, I guess I ll find out...go ARMY!!). I know Bob and Lee will help get someone started, just let him or I know your intentions and they will have you up and running for the September-October issue. In closing, I hope everyone has a great summer and I hope to see someone take the chance and step up with keeping our Newsletter up and running for the good of the Post and the American Legion. Charles Michel 2nd Vice Commander As everyone is aware, the Memorial Day ceremony was a great success. Open House at the Post was very good and lots of people attended. I would like to thank the ladies for their help in the kitchen and clean-up. Not much to report until September, so have a safe and happy summer! Ben Wheatley Ladies, we still didn t make 100% membership this year. We will start to collect dues for the upcoming year at the convention. Dues are still $20 per member and $2 for Junior members. Maureen Murray from Unit 6 is running for state Auxiliary President. Let s all get behind her and make her proud if elected President. Have a safe and happy summer! God Bless Our Troops Nancy King

At Arms: Greg Hurley Hi folks! I want to thank everyone who came out and supported the chicken BBQ. Thanks to my beautiful wife and her BFFs for helping to prepare and serve the delicious chicken platters. We did good thanks to the SAL volunteers and Steve Dewey. We have a Pig Roast coming up on July 16th, so come out and get some good food. Summer just started, so keep an eye on the marquee for upcoming events. See you at the meeting! I am so appreciative of all the help that was given to me and the great attendance at the monthly Unit meetings. As we discussed at the June meeting, in order for the Unit to support the worthy causes that we do, we need to have some fundraising efforts. All ideas will be appreciated. The next Auxiliary meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, September 6, 2016, at 7 p.m. Dolores Taylor

5 Membership Chairman Page 5 As of June 1st, 2016, membership is at 480 for a 96.8% paid membership. Dues for 2017 are now being accepted. Thank you to all who pay early (that would be with the first reminder in the mail). Also, the Department Service Officer will be at Post 6 on the following Fridays from the hours of 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM to assist any veterans regarding VA problems: August 19 November 18 Charles Michel Holding Company Update In May a letter was sent to The Department of Delaware regarding the status of the Holding Company. They have been informed that it is our intention to meet with our lawyer as soon as we can schedule a meeting. Marvin Kennedy Trustee every Sunday and Saturday. Those cannons fired round iron cannon balls. It was necessary to keep a good supply near the cannon. However, how to prevent them from rolling about the deck? The best storage method devised was a square-based pyramid with one ball on top, resting on four resting on nine, which rested on sixteen. Thus, a supply of 30 cannon balls could be stacked in a small area right next to the cannon. There was only one problem.how to prevent the bottom layer from sliding or rolling from under the others. The solution was a metal plate called a Monkey with 16 round indentations. However, if this plate were made of iron, the iron balls would quickly rust to it. The solution to the rusting problem was to make Brass Monkeys. Few landlubbers realize that brass contracts much more and much faster than iron when chilled. Consequently, when the temperature dropped too far, the brass indentations would shrink so much that the iron cannonballs would come right off the monkey; thus, it was quite literally Cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey. (All this time, you thought that was an improper expression, didn t you).
