Those are questions I like to ask a new member I just met, say at the Ceremonial. The first two are easy, most people answer quickly and smile. The third question will make them think. If we are lucky, the new member will become our friend and a member of our club. It takes all of us to make that new member feel special. Setting the hook is the easy part, it s our duty to reel them in. FUN. FOOD. BEVERAGES. What more can we say about the Mariners hospitality area at the Potentate s Pre-Ball? On behalf of the Mariners, I want to personally thank everyone for their support to make this event successful. A big Thank You goes for the help of are Lady s (Admirals) as well. If you attended the Potentate s Ball, there were special guests: Shriners children. Sometimes we all need a reminder of our purpose. PAPER DRIVE. Saturday, May 20. This is a very important event. 12 Motor Corps Greetings to all, hope everyone is doing well. April has turned out to be a busy month. First, we had an excellent time at the Potentate s Ball on Saturday, April 1. Second, we had the kids Easter party which is always a big hit. Thanks to all who helped out. Third, as we know, our onion sales are now over. All Motor Corps members: our first Black Coal is Sunday, May 21, at Interlake. Times will be 6:00am to approximately 3:00pm. We want to welcome our new Motor Corps members to come up and help. This is the parade where you can get all the bugs ironed out of your little cars and mini bikes, plus you can show off your off season progress. We were honored to have two International Association Legions of Honor officers in attendance at the Ball, our own Mike Murray, 5th Lt. Commander, and Ill. Sir Ray Combs, our 2nd. Lt. Once again, Sell Those Onions!!!! Spring Ceremonial is almost upon us. Hopefully, we will accept several new and active members at this time. We welcome all Shriners who have served in our country s military to join Hadi LOH. 13 Drum & Bugle Corps Blast Greetings from the Hadi Drum & Bugle Corps. The spring season is well upon us and that means two things: cutting grass and parading with your unit. In fact, we have another parade right around the corner. Saturday, May 13, is the Spring Ceremonial. So if you need anything for your uniform, drum, or horn- please contact Mike Holman before this date. It is very important that we have a large member turnout for this special event. Vidalia onions are either here or fast approaching, so let s secure those orders. Let s all work to make this another successful fundraiser. Contact this year s newly crowned Onion King Rob Bell for questions. The D&B would like to welcome all new nobles to the Hadi Shrine and extend to one-and-all a warm welcome to join our awesome parading unit. You don t have to have any musical talent (we can t even read sheet music!), just a desire to have a good time and meet some great fellow Shriners. In the past month, a large number of members participated in the kick-off breakfast signaling the beginning of the selling of circus ads. Also, the Potentate s Ball was a huge success. Thank you to all who helped set up the D&B s pre-ball table and party supplies. The D&B will be taking pre-orders for their annual ribs and butts sale. Contact any member by Friday, May 19, or to Boganjohnr@aol.com, (Please specify your name and what items-quantities you would like). Color Guard Greetings nobles. Congratulations are the flavor of the month of May. A hardy welcome goes out to our new Masonic Brothers who received their Master Mason degree at the One-Day Class. Let s all welcome our new Brothers into the fraternity. I m sure there is a Fez that reads Hadi out there that would look great on them. Not to be outdone, is the fine group of men who became members of Hadi Temple at the Spring Ceremonial. Congratulations to all the new nobles. Let s make them feel at home. It was another great job by the Directors Staff. A Tip of the Fez goes out to all who helped with the Screening Clinic. What a great day to be a Shriner and a member of Hadi. Let s also give a pat on the back to the nobles participating in the Paper Drive. What a great way to get the word out of what we do as Shriners. Last but not least, our veterans, especially those who paid the ultimate price for our freedom. This Memorial Day let us honor them with the utmost dignity. If you know of a fallen veteran who has no family, take some time to put a flower or two on the grave. Take it upon yourself or as a unit. This could become an annual competition next year between UCO s to see which group can adopt the most veterans. Think about it. Any noble interested in joining the Color Guard: we meet the first Friday of every month at 7:00 pm on the third floor. Come down to the Temple early to enjoy the Red Fez. 13
