7 Oriental Band Submitted By: Denis K Gentry Greetings to all the members of Hadi Shriners. from the oasis of the Oriental Band. Well Nobles, it looks as though spring has finally arrived for us and along with it comes the rain. We hope that everyone had a Blessed Easter weekend with the family and loved ones. Nobles, I begin this article on a sad note as the dreaded black camel visited our Oasis and carried away Harley Seybold on his final ride across the hot sands. Brother Seybold was a life long member of the OB and a very proficient drummer who attended many OB Jamborees before his health prevented him from participating. Our sincere condolences to his family and many friends on his sudden passing. Well guys, our annual Spring Breakfast and Ladies Night are behind us now and we hope that those who attended these events enjoyed them. Many thanks to VP Steve Hendrix and all those who helped put together these enjoyable events for our members. We did something a little different this year with our breakfast as we included our ladies. It was nice that we all could get together for a few hours to chat, share stories and ideas with one another. Thank you once again to everyone for your help and support. The time has come as those wild and wacky nomads start gearing up for our parade season, Spring Ceremonial, and OB Jamboree. Practices are being held every Tuesday evening at 7PM sharp so we can get ready for parades and the tough competition that lays ahead of us. Those of you who are attending the Jamboree and play in the competition, please attend practice to learn the songs and the order in which we ll play them. We ll also need to know who s going, roomates, arrival date, and if you plan on playing golf. Singup sheets are in the room. Please see Jeremy or Randy to sign up or if you need further info regarding Jamboree. Just a small reminder guys, we re in the process of getting new uniforms. Those of you who plan on attending parades, Shrine functions or the Jamboree need to be at practice or business meetings so that Randy can get your measurements. Spring Ceremonial is May 5th and again we will probably be performing in the first section. Please make an effort to attend, if anything, the first section so that we have a good turn out for our new nobles and give them a good performance. Show them what the OB is all about. Our Circus Ad Chairman is seeking everyone s help in making this a profitable year. How about it guys! If each one of us can sell or purchase just one ad we can make this a profitable year for our unit and Hadi Shriners. Fellows, May 13th is Mother s Day and what a better way to celebrate it then by bringing your mother to the Mother s Day Buffet in the Red Fez. Watch for more details in your Hot Sands and make plans to treat your mother to an enjoyable meal and fun day for all! Get well wishes to loved ones and Nobles with health problems, pray that they receive divine blessings for a speedy recovery. The oasis is looking good thanks to some of our Brethren. Come on down and join us. Get active, get involved and enjoy being a Shriner. Potentate s Honor Guard If you participated in sword honor guard at the Potentate s Ball would you do the HONORABLE thing and return the sword, that you were given, back to the temple. PICK UP May 11th & 12th 7

8 What a wonderful night for the hundreds of kids and adults who turned out to enjoy the 11th Annual Kid's Easter Party, a Hadi Tradition. Everyone was greeted by the Illustrious Sir Mike Taylor and his Lady Charla and son Nickel. I congratulate our Easter Bunny and her helpers who have spent the last 11 years bringing joy and fun to the children of Hadi Shrine members. It was great to see all the young ones get an Easter Basket and fill them with all kinds of goodies from around the room. They had great painted faces and balloons from the Funsters who came to help entertain. The line to see the Bunny was continuous from 6pm until 8:10pm and the kids got a souvenir photo thanks to our volunteer photographers. I wish to thank ALL the Volunteers from all the different groups, clubs and organizations without whose help this event would not be possible and everyone else who came out to help make this an unforgettable event for the kids. It is good to know that Thanks to EVERYONES help, these children will remember this evening for years to come. THANK YOU ALL!!! 9 Hospital Staff Greetings from the Hadi Hospital Staff In Honor of Jack Benjiman, Past Captain Hadi Hospital Staff What do numbers really mean. We always want to See The Numbers Here are some numbers from 2017 for the Hospital Staff. We made 160 trips to the area hospitals. We took 166 patients to their appointments. We drove 63,110 miles taking these patients to their appointments. Cost for these trips $ $ 9, Pretty impressive numbers to look at. And then there are the numbers we don t see. Recently we had a Noble speak with the Uncle of a Shrine kid. He struggled to express the appreciation he and his family has for the Hadi Hospital Staff and its drivers along with the St Louis Shriners Hospital. In 2006 this patient made his first trip to the Shrine Hospital in St Louis after being diagnosed locally with a muscular disease that would eventually make him wheelchair bound. We made our first trip with him to the St Louis Hospital in February of Again the care and professionalism they received in St Louis was outstanding and so much appreciated. This young man made a total of 13 trips over the next six and a half years until September The result! Not only was his nephew able to walk but was also a member of the marching band at his high school. What a testimony to the determination and dedication of our Hospitals. Stories like this are the numbers we don t often see. Its these numbers that we put in the time and effort for. Every Shriner Kid is Number One to us. Thank you all for the hard work and dedication in making this possible for our kids. This update was brought to us by long time Shriner and Past Captain of the Hospital Staff Jack Benjamin only days before his passing. Jack was a inspiration to many of us in the Hospital Staff. No one will ever know the number of kids Jack helped over his many years of service to the Hadi Shrine. Hadi Hospital Staff Submitted By: Steve Cunningham PS Don t forget the upcoming SCREENING CLINIC at the Temple on Saturday May 19. This clinic is for patient evaluation for possible treatment at one of our hospitals. NO CHARGE 9am until noon. 85th Annual Hadi Shrine Circus JUNE 29th ad protection ends 9

After all, a child if more precious than the gold of Ophir." My legacy through the Shrine is in Honor of the late Harold and Charlotte Evans. 11
