Christian N a tions do, or should, abhor war, they should hate it, they should build up sentiment against it, I hey should school the children of its cruelty, waste, and inhumanity. All classes of people should r ' s e up in protest t h a t such a monster should live to destroy t h e works of ma,n. That w a r should continue to mock the cry for peace and good-will among men is unthinkable. O, War, thou bloody dragon, who will rise up and slay, thee and shame the gods t h a t call forth m u l e s to devastate the earth a,nd slaughter - our boys like cattle at the shambles. May the Almighty speed the day when men will beat their swords into plow-shares and their spears into pruning hooks and learn the?,rt of war no more. Unless t h a t day comes speedily this world will be an unfit place to r e a r our broods of children and it will be an unsafe place in which to build t h a t shelter called home. Our wise men tell us t h a t they do not want war, the great men of our Nation declare tha,t everything possible will be done to avoid our entanglement in w a r and I a m sure that the average citizen shudders at the thought of war. However, on every hand, mcuntain-like preparations a r e in t h e making f o r war, on land and sea. Seldom, if ever in human history, has there been such a mighty amassing' of agencies of N o. 30 wholesale destruction. I t is as though the world was on fire, it is as though demons planned t h e destruction of t h e h u m a n race, it is as though it was t h e breaking up of the world's civilization. Let us r e m e m b e r t h a t no one can accomplish peace and go about with a chip on his shoulder, pea,ce and good-will are bought by integrity and justice. So, if America bids f o r peace we must be kind and considerate of all mankind. If we really w a n t good-will in t h e f a r E a s t let us w i t h d r a w every selfish interest in China, come a w a y bag a n d baggage. W e have no right to impose on them, even our religion. China a n d J a p a n alike will be glad to t r a d e with America. This Country's declaration of rights in China and J a p a n is to their natives insolence, we appear, to them, saucy, selfish and lippy. America is courting w a r by flirting with warring people. J a p a n m a y seize the Ea,st Indies, and the E a s t Indies a r e close neighbors of t h e Phillipine Islands, even so, let us f e a r not, r a t h e r give the Philippines to Japan. If Imperial J a p a n takes t h e cloa,k give t h e m the coat also. Those islands f a r out in the Pacific mean little to the United States, so let America be satisfied with t h e Continent of N o r t h America as a homeland, and w e will be more respected by the people of t h e f a r E a s t and there will be no provocation then f o r war. Again, it seems a wild dream to clamp the Monroe Doctrine along t h e entire coast of South America, theirs is not a civiliz-

Kimpton has a limited number of free tickets (500 to be exact) to the Cleveland-Boston Baseball game. This game will be played in the Cleveland Stadium Thursday, August 1st at 3:00 P. M.. These tickets are for Stow school children and may be secured at the High School office any day except Saturday or Sunday from 8:30 a. m. to 4:00 p. m. DR. PHELPS GOES TO HOUSTON, TEXAS Dr. Kenton R. Phelps and his wife, formerly Alberta Statts, have been visiting at the home of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. S. Phelps, Ritchie Road and Mrs. Katie Statts, Darrowville, since July 1st. For the past five years, Dr. Phelps has been specializing in neurosurgery and doing general surgery at Lakeside Hospital in Cleveland. He graduated from Western Reserve Medical School in 1935 and is a member of Alpha Omega Alpha and Sigma Xi. They left on July 22 for Houston, Texas, where Dr. Phelps will enter into practice of general surgery. : <s> PLEASE NOTE! Rev. Gregory lost a sum of money in bills last. Saturday evening between Acme grocery and Stow Church of Christ. Anyone finding this and returning it to Rev. Gregory will be rewarded. GRAHAM ROAD NOTES The attendance in Bible School last Sunday was one hundred and sixty-six, of which twenty-six were visitors. The attendance a week ago Sunday was one hundred and eighty, with twenty seven visitors. Birthdays celebrated the last two Sundays were: Donald Brillhart, Billy Leas, Alberta Shaver, Barbara Joan Hensen and Mrs. Ja.ck Anderson.

Eddie Ocker, a popular radio n ; nger, assisted in the program given this month. Every one present enjoyed the program very much, especially the singing by Mr. Ocker, who has a standing invitation to sing as often as he finds it possible to attend. Mrs. Cora Bryan with sons, Mac and Charles, Mrs. Clarence Younkin and Mrs. Wingrove have recently returned from a visit with friends and relatives in Parkersb'^rs, W. Va. Mr. and Mrs. Charles West recently attended the West reunion beld at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Orton Rhodes, of Bedford, Ohio. Forty-n ; ne guests were present. Mr. J. E. Sutton ha,s been appointed director of the 'Baptist Church School Advance Program." Mr. Sutton is a very capable leader and without doubt will be successful in carrying out this program. The new church organized a*. Friendsville, Ohio under the sponsorship of the Graham Road Baptist church, is be'ng well a,ttended. It is reported regular morning and evening worship serv'ce may be started soon. The new addition to the Graham Road church is now under roof and while every one is rejoicing in the fact that we will soon have more room, there seemed to be a moment of sadness as of the passing of an old friend when the pastor announced last Sunday that this would probably be the last morning worsh'p in the auditorium as it is now. Plans are being made for a special dedication program when the building is completed. More detail on this program later. N. W. Biggs, the Grahan Road Bible School Superinten dent, preached the regular worship sermon at the New Friendsville church la,st Sunday. Pansy Fry returned this week from a three week vacat'on with friends and relatives in Columbus and Portsmouth, Ohio. Young, with sister, Miss Georgia Shenault, of West Arndale Road and niece, Miss Patricia Jackson of Ironton, Ohio, made a round trip on the boat from Cleveland to Cedar Point and return. C. < > WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO YOU I THE CHURCH Not attending what is commonly known as church, it may mean nothing more to you than a physical landmark in your particular neighborhood. For instance, specifically, that red-brick building on Elm Road, Stow, the one that has a red tile roof somewhat in need of repair. Or, if it has a bell, and to you who live just across the road, it is nothing more than a cursed ding dong on Sunday mornings when you want to sleep late. Or, maybe the church brings up memories of bygone days when once you sat with father and mother on hard wooden benches, hours it seemed, while the minister sermonized. You are one of those kind who say they got too much church in their younger days so you stay at home now. Your children grow up depending on someone else for a spiritual start. Maybe they
