1 THE COMMUNITY CHURCH NEWS VOL. V i r i STOW, OHIO, FRIDAY, FEBRUARY IS IT IMPERATIVE THAT C H U R C H M E M B E R S ASSEMB L E FOR W O R S H I P? A grand old King who was a grand old churchman in the long ago wrote, How amiable a r e t h y taibernacles O Lord of Hosts! My soul longeth, yea, even fainteth f o r the courts of the Lord, f o r a day in t h y house is better than a thousand. Ps. 84. Go to church, my brother, throw to the winds your silly and unw a r r a n t e d excuses, go to church and worship God. You tell t h a t the sermon is no good, t h e Church is full of hypocrites, t h a t you can't sit through a service, t h a t you have other engagements, t h a t you a r e as well off out of the Church, t h a t at some more favorable time you will give it serious thought. You plan to attend Church if you ever move to a strange city, or when the family grows up, o r when your work is more remunerative, or when you get a new dress or a new suit of clothes. No, friend, you are not sincere. The deceiver who m a r k s all such as you cunningly strings you along. Your talk is all the bunk, it is all untrue. W h a t you need is a glorious awakening, such as Isaiah got in the Temple of God centuries before Christ, a mighty vision of God and a hot coal f r o m off the altar to purify his lips. Isaiah was no longer an occasional seat warmer, he now was a prophet,^ a voice, a holy flame warning multitudes t h a t the Almighty had no patience with such as he had been. Go to Church. What do you suppose Sunday is f o r? If you set 14, 1941 No. 7 yourself right with t h e g r e a t regulator you will find t h a t your complaint of the Church, together with all your excuses, was a disease called worldliness, carelessness, indifference. It overtakes all who have a low state of spirituality, and the only known remedy is to contact Him of whom the prophet wrote. Go to Church. Be ashamed of the shadow you throw and w h e r e it falls when your seat in God's House is vacant. Make no excuses for they are not accepted a t the bar of God. Go to Church, t h a t is your duty, be found in your place. Let us cleanse our Temple, build again our tumbled down altars, take our children by the hand and head f o r the Church, -support it, defend it, cherish it, love it. P u t your manhood, your womanhood, back of it, uphold it with your prayers, your energy, and your substance. Let t h e land of the f r e e beware. To neglect the Church, to flirt with the sanctity of the home, to forget the assembly of ourselves f o r devotion and worship, to discard the House of God, is t h e beginning of sorrow and tribulation for our proud- Republic, it's the beginning of the end. Go to Church, It's the Almighty's plan. Luke 14:23,- That My House May Be Filled. It's not the Church, it's you, my friend, so change your way of thinking, keep to the right next Sunday a n d grace that empty seat in the church. A t t e n d Church again, f o r the fraternity, the neighborliness, the good-will, the hand clasp of the good, t h e true, the strong men and women you will meet there. Fill your soul

Subscription price 50c a vear. Entered as second class matter May 4, 1937 at the Postoffioe at Stow, Ohio, under Act of March 3, Office of publication, 36U W. Arndale Rd., Stow. H. J. Stockman, Editor. with the inspiration of the grand old songs. Worship, your soul needs it. Let us hope that from the minister's message from the great Book, spoken in sincerityyou may find peace, hope, and the life that is, and the life that is to be. GEO. M. HULME <S> Bible Study Lesson Feb. 16 Printed Text Luke 17:1-4, Golden Text Be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, even as God also in Christ forgave you. Ephesians 4:32. On the question of forgiveness Jesus taught: "If thy brother sin, rebuke him; and if he repent, forgive him." The forgiveness, then, is conditional on the change of heart in the sinner. Yet "if he sin against thee seven times in the day and seven times turn again to thee saying, I repent; thou shalt forgive him." "Better to secure the sanctity and beauty of our own character by being ready to forgive seven times, even though the man is not sincere, than by refusing forgiveness to a truly repentant soul, be in danger of being a stumbling' block in his way." G. Campbell Morgan. The second half of the lesson deals with gratitude. Jesus healed ten lepers and only one returned to thank him for the marvelous change in his physical condition. "But where are the nine?" Were they too COWARDLY to return and take their stand with Jesus in the face of ridicule or danger? Were they too LAZY to return and perhaps be pressed into service? ENLIGHTENMENT comes with progress. Our complete equipment and experience make possible the refinements and humanities that mark our Service of Sincerity. The McGowan Funeral Home

Were they too CONCEITED to return, thinking that, after all, health was their natural right? Hew easy it is to accept the favors of a loving Father, both those freely bestowed and those specially requested, seldom returning to express our love and appreciation. Hazel Wheeler TEXT SERMON Pilate saith unto them, What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ? Matt. 27:22. At the morning church services last Sunday morning we were reminded that the greatest story ever written among the children of men is that of the crucifixion, death, burial and resurrection of Jesus. Consider the text. If you lift the question propounded by Pilate out of its immediate setting it has the implications of immortality. It matters not about power, wealth or worldly achievements. Such are temporal. But the question, "What shall I do with Jesus?", is of eternal importance. You may spit in His face, de- St. Cuyahoga Falls spise Him, curse Him, reject Him, but still, on land,?ea or in the air, the question "What shall I do with Jesus?" in one way or another will haunt you and follow you until you have decided on the right answer, or until the grave. You may be classed with those who live to eat, to drink, and be merry but still there is the question, "What shall I do with Jesus?" Again there is a class of people, hypocrits, some call them, who answer the question "What shall I do with Jesus?" by appropriating Christ for their own convenience. They desire the respectability of the Church but live a worldly existence. Or they may twist and turn God's Word to suit their own self'sh and wicked purposes false prophets perhaps. The Judas band our minister called them. There are still other people who answer the question "What shall I do with Jesus?" by saying like Felix of old "Some more convenient day" I will seriously live a Christian life. That day never comes for to accept Jesus is not a matter of convenience. Listed in this class our minister placed the church members who follow the crowd to the places of worldly pleasure and satisfaction but don't bother about the prayer meeting. "What shall I do with Jesus?" accept Him and sincerely try to follow through with God's p^n of salvation. Such build for eternity. A soft answer turneth away wrath; but grievous words stir up anger. Prov. 15:1. DEATH Report was received by Dr. Henry of Williamson Road that his wife's mother, Mrs. J. B. Frew, age eighty-six. of Harrison, Arkansas passed away suddenly Friday evening, Feb. 7th. Mrs. Henry who had intended to visit her mother later was fortunately able to leave last Wednesday and arrived in Arkansas at the home of her mother Friday morning. She visited that day with her mother who, except possibly because of the infirmities of age, was not thought to be in a serious condition. However that evening about eleven o'clock Mrs. Frew was found to have quietly and peacefully reparted this life. Our sincere sympathy is extended to Mrs. Henry. IIIIMIIIIMIIIMIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIMIIIIIIII1MIIIIIIIIIII The following note was received last Saturday by the Editor. DEATH Word has just been received of the death of the widow of the late Rev. Besaw. Mrs. Besaw passed away at the home of her daughter Gertrude, in New Jersey. She had been visiting there for sometime w'th the Murphys. Mrs. Besaw lived in Stow as a girl and later lived there with her daughter and husband when he was pastor of the Stow Church of Chr'st. HATE Whom do you hate? No one. No one? Stop and think. It has been our experience that few are the people who do not show some degree of contempt for certain other people. Few indeed are those who can resist the temptation to "cast stones" of one sort or another at certain of their neighbors, acquaintances, or apparent friends. It is easy to pick out their faults, especially when they are not present But did you ever stop to think that the people, or their traits >f character, the things in their lives at which you cast these stones of contempt or, if you please HATE, determine your own standing in the sight of God. Even your fellowman may more or less silently observe and pass judgment. Does not God's word tell us that "with what judgment ye judge ye shall be judged." A common object of contempt and even hatred are the "queer" Christians. Those, maybe, who are given to shouting, those who are inclined to take the Bible literally, or even those who have a better spiritual understanding of the Word of God than ourselves. 6 10 THE COMMUNITY CHURCH NEWS people apart. We put a magnifying glass over their faults. But be careful. A great singer was David, yet, the Bible says he was a man after God's own heart. Why this was true we will not stop to analyze further than to say thai David always repented of his sin. So it may be with "queer" Christians, in our contempt for such, our magnification of their faults, real or imaginary, we place ourselves in danger of the judgment. Remerr.ber Jesus said "Let him that is without sin among you cast the first stone." H. J. S. PRIMARY DEPARTMENT VALENTINE PARTY Saturday. Warner, speaking of the tremendous increase of the use of cigarettes by boys and girls, says, "We are breeding a race of tobacco degenerates. The children inherit the narcotic (body-cell) craving from tobacco using ancestors, making them easy addicts to tobacco, liquor and dope. Juvenile crime, vice and degeneracy, are steadily increasing with the increasing use of tobacco. The average age of crime has come down in 16 years from the age 28 to the age 19. The worst juvenile criminals are aged 19 years. The people of the United States smoked ,000,000 cigarettes in 1938, more than the combined cost of our public schools and churches. Our jails, prisons, reformatories and insane asylums are overcrowded with increasing young degenerates. Tobacco is a dope like opium, cocain, etc. The tobacco habit is more difficult to cure than that of liquor. Selected $> _ The simple believeth every word: but the prudent looketh well to his going.
