1 THE COMMUNITY CHURCH NEWS VOL. V S T O W, O., F R I D A Y, MARCH 25, 1938 THE REVIVAL There are always two questions that confront a business rpan; how much does it cost, and will it pay? The Revival led by Dr. Bulgin has closed and the good derived or gains made are before us. So we ask in business values, how much did it cost and did it pay? The revival cost in time, energy, solicitude, money. The profits must be reckoned in spiritual values, there are awakened souls, there will be accessions to the church, there were noble resolves made, there were refreshing times for all who enjoy a season; set aside where many meet together to sing, to pray, to commune with the Great Spirit. Perhaps the old fashioned protracted meeting ' is passing out, perhaps it will never leap again into a fierce flame as it did :in the olden day. However, it has been said that the human race is incurably religious. Man may be very inconsistent' according to the laws that govern _ Christian ethics or the doctrine of God, but where is the soul that has never lisped, "My faith looks up to Thee, Thou lamb of Calvary." Clarence Darrow, our greatest of criminal lawyers, who only a few days ago passed from time to eternity, Darrow, the avowed and boasted agnostic, admitted that he sometimes prayed, prayed, he said, to a just God, he the Soverign of this universe. Who would go from a Revival to steal or kill or degrade himself with ^any gross immorality? A spiritual awakening tends- to NO. 12 righteousness, temperance, to better citizenship, to honorable and just living. Who will say but that the whole world, including all faiths and creeds, all castes and tongues; the whole of the human race would be blessed, advanced, encouraged, and that the. whole world, would burst- forth like a glorious spring-time, with a justice, a peace, and a good-will to men if it were possible to sweep the earth with a sane, sensible awakening of the spark of good that dwells within. To localize our question, did the revival pay in Stow? A fair test is, how do you feel about it? Are you repaid for your interest? Is you life richer, fuller after two weeks of association with good folk all absorbing good and noble thoughts? Suppose that one boy, only one from a group of thirty or- more* who made a clean, definite decision of the christian life, that this one matures and' develops into an-exemplary citizen; a tall noble christian character, one o whom the world is proud, suppose that that is all, did it pay? Suppose a discouraged and forlorn soul was helped along life's way, and was heartened enough to carry on, then did it pay? Suppose a few for whom life and hope were very dim, that in them listening hope again saw a star and listening love once more heard the rustle of a wing, did it pay? GEO. M. Tolbert, was written while he was waiting in an ante room for an interview. I hope this brings, dear friend, just what it did to me, For the thought is very simple, and the theme is plain to see, We should not let our eyes be fixed on wealth and pomp and pride, And think that God is with us, when we set the poor aside; I think we all should see ourselves in God's true looking glass, And remember, Isaiah said, "Our flesh was naught but grass." And, too, our blessed Lord declared, "That inasmuch as ye, Have done it to the least of these, ye have done it unto me." I guess you've heard the story which may not all be true, Of the pian who visited the church one day, as any; man might do, He took a seat up near the front, to hear the songs and prayer, For a sign that hung up by,the door had bade him welcome there, And as he sat in silence, and cast his eyes around, He could see the church attended by the wealthiest folk in town, And as the preacher spake that day, this man began to think, Upon the words that "Whosoever will, may come and drink." And when the Minister said, "Who'll come, for Jesus take a stand," This honest soul walked up the aisle, and firmly grasped his hand, Then all the people cast; their eyes on this poor man with scorn, And thought how can he be so bold, with clothes so old and Worn? This man's eyes were filled with tears, he was weary and tired of sin, But the pastor knew not what to do, he dare not take him in, At last, he said, "Just take a seat out in the anteroom, And think the matter o'er a bit, and I will join you soon. And then the preacher came to him; he said, "You go and pray, And talk to God about this thing, and come another day, For this means much for anyone to join a church so fine, And keep your dues paid in advance, and dress right up in line; So you just look to God, my friend, and ask him what to do, He will guide you day by day, andtead you safely thru." Now you just look to Jesus, and cast on Him your cares, Do you suppose you'd like a church made up of millionaires. So when this man departed, he was feeling somewhat bad, But he met the preacher later on, and this is what he said; "Now Reverend, I think your advice was very, very kind, But since I've talked to God awhile, I've surely changed my mind." And then the preacher smiled and said, "I'm glad you feel that way, And since you've talked to God, dear man, tell me, what did He say?" "He said for me to read and pray, and do the best I could, For even if I joined your church, that would not make me good; And, too, God said, "Just let it go, don't take the time to fret, For years I've tried to get in there, and I haven't made it yet." This class will meet Wednesdays at 7:00 P. M. sharp at the Fire Station. Also, all boys between ages of twelve and sixteen interested in Drum or Bugle Corps will meet at the school house on Friday, March 25th, 7:00 P. M. This class is to be directed by a competent WPA instructor. It is sponsored by the American Legion. All boys of this age are urged and welcome to come. MRS. E. W. CHIPPS AND CHILDREN. <$> IN RETROSPECT The Revival for this year as conducted by Dr. E. J. Bulgin and his good wife is over. It is now up to us to push on with the work that is started. Unless those who began in the Christian life are constantly nourished with the Word of God, unless they pray, and unless they are active in Christian work, their state will become worse than it was before. So! Let them plan to associate with people who have a mind to study and hear the word, let them pray, and let them do good works. Let us all love God, and our neighbor as ourself. Let us tell others the good news. In point of attendance the meeting last Friday evening was the most successful. Every seat in the Tabernacle and on the platform was filled. Adjutant Rickard and a large number from the Salvation Army of Akrop were there. Very special music by the Cleveland Colored Gospel Quintette who have been singing together in the United States and several foreign countries for the past seventeen years was*greatly enjoyed. Their music is often heard over the radio. On this Friday evening Dr. Bulgin preached a powerful sermon on the parable of the ten virgins or the second coming of Christ.

Justification A change of state A new standing before God. 2. Repentance A change of mind A new mind about God and the sin that has alienated me from God. 3. Conversion The act of a sinner A change of life A right about face. 4. Regeneration God's act. A change of nature. A new nature from God. 5. Adoption A change of family, a new relationship with God. 6. Sanctification A change of family, a new relationship with God. 6. Sanctification A change of occupation, set apart for God. 7. Holiness A change of likeness, without which no man shall see God. After the Tabernacle services last Sunday evening Dr. E. J. and Mrs. Bulgin left about 10:30 P. M. by automobile for California. They expected to get well over into Indiana before they stopped to rest. They intended to reach St. Louis Monday evening, the middle of Texas Tuesday evening and be home in Long Beach, California, Friday evening. We should be glad to hear if they keep this schedule. Dr. Bulgin opens a two weeks Revival Service this Sunday in the Community Church at Strathmore, California, followed by a two weeks, engagement in the United Brethren Church at Whittier, to be followed by a three weeks Union Revival meeting for all churches at Redondo, California. Then he goes to Phoenix, Arizona, where union services are to be held for the Baptist,, the United Brethren, the Pilgrim Holiness and three Nazarene churches. Dr. and Mrs. Bulgin came to Stow after holding a series of meetings in Franklin, Pa.
