V THE STOW, 0-, FRIDAY, JULY 29, 1938 STONES Stones are indeed very serviceable, were it n,ot for them we might sink knee deep in the earth, they form the solidity for our planet. Stones are used for under-pinning of houses, foundations for great land-marks, sidewalks, highwsys, fences. Dear, dear, what would 1 the old world be without stones? Now, I read in a book, that is greatly respected, of a heap of stones piled neatly in order along the Jordan River marking the place where the Hebrew race crossed on their sojourn to the homeland. Now they were advised that when generations to follow would ask, what meaneth these stones? they would be told the story of how Providence passed them through the swirling Jordan on dry land. Howbeit, there are so many wonderful stories about stone, such as the great stones of the Temple, the Pyramids of Egypt, Dianna of the Ephesians and the Washington Monument, five hundred 55 feet high. No doubt my readers will all agree that these are wonderful achievements in stone. However, Stow, Ohio, is not a place to be outdine. Howe's history tells us of a great stone bed, a mighty mat of rock just back of the Post Office, where 3 nest, of snakes so numerous as to be Worthy of mention in the history of the great state of Ohio. Yet more strange than all these tales are some neatly painted stones that appear near a public NO. 30 parking place. I am told they are methodically arranged, apparently to warn off trespassers who persist in leaving their vehicles along the public highway while they tarry in the House of Prayer. One cannot always be sure of things they see and hear in this strange life of ours. Now I am told of a large, bright star that has suddenly appeared in the heavens, I am told of undeclared wars and great labor troubles and hungry folks in a land where there is. too much to eat. So evidently one ought to ponder deeply and seriously when a strange phenomenon in the form of.painted stones appears the highway. along Many times I have drawn up. tot the side of the road and read from a tablet or finger post weird and interesting history of Indians, or early settlers, or a or a birth place of some great massacre, or cyclone, or a battle, or a birth place of some great hero. Now, Stow is second to none in evidence of interesting tales. On this ancient highway there was once a Tavern at Stow and a stage coach passed through and this was the Indian Trail to Old Portage, Sandusky and Detroit. Come, then, ye wise and learned ones, and tell the youth of Stow the mystery and puzzle of the stones. GEO. M. HULME

MORNING SERVICES Last Sunday morning Mr. Biggs preached on the "Conversion Of Saul." This next Sunday he will speak on the "Second Coming Of Christ." PRAYER MEETINGS Each week on Tuesday afternoon the Ladies Bible Class holds a prayer meeting at the home of a class member. This present week it was held at the home of Mrs. Nichols. On Wednesday evening of each week, in the church, a Teachers Training and Bible Sjtudy Class is conducted by Mr. Biggs. All of those interested in an exposition and discussion of the coming Sunday's Bible School lesson should attend this meeting. And on Friday of this week a Young Peoples prayer meeting will be'held, in the church basement. Any young person ninety years of age or under may attend this meeting.
