1 THE COMMUNITY CHURCH NEWS Vol. II Friday, May 24, 1935 STOW, OHIO No. 21 MINISTER'S COLUMN Are you good company for yourself? Robinson Crusoe fared very well on a lonely island. He engaged his mind and activities in many profitable ways, and when deliverance came he had a message of experience for ages to come. The souls that- have made this world worth while are they who have come up out of the silence. John the Baptist was such a one, Mohammed was another, Moses, Lincoin and Confucius, great leaders, men outstanding in genius. Poets, authors, inventors, up they come from the quiet and solitude of year spent in meditation and brooding :n seme worthy task. The Galillean after some two thcu:and years has no competitor, tru'v this man was a spirit of the c^uiet place. With this information, are you gcoa company for yourself? Do ycu feel uncomfortable when alone? Can jcu tolerate yourself? Do you feel impelled to run to a neighbor, er go to a show, or off to the club, anywhere to be in a crowd? What's the trouble, brother? Don't you like ycur own company? If not, why impose yourself on others? Or why not try to be good company for yourself? No one can play well in any game where team work counts until he can play well himself. If one exeells in individuality he will achieve among his.fellows. If he be not up to par then his place is always weak in the game. Stand alcne, my brother. Stand on your own feet. Think for yourself. Don't see-saw up and down with every wind that blows. Best of all E ive answer for the hope within. Know for yourself, then be strong acd unflinchin:'. Don't cling to some creed or dogma just because grandfather had convictions. Be yourself, develop the soul within. Simon Legree was frightened when alone. Ghosts and speetors was his portion when out of company with his pals. The world produces much noise, strife, discord. The soul should find rest, peace and poise in great values as the hills, the sky, the sunset. The soul must dare to be alone, must challenge the fret and fuss of life by stepping aside where poets, dreamers and the mighty live. Are you good company for yourself? That depends cn your thought, on the urge within, cn the program you have for life. The colored man says, "When I am left alone with my thoughts I fall asleep. But the white brother, alone with his thoughts, he often takes his own life. Good company for yourself, that depends on the CHURCH CALENDAR BIBLE SCHOOL - Sunday, 9:30 A. M. GEO. M. HUUME, Minister ANNOUNCEMENTS This Sunday morning Rev. Hulme will preach. The subject of his sermon is "Fishers of Men." You are cordially invited to attend this Sunday morning church service. Sunday evening our regular monthly church night get-together, get-acquainted service will be held. It has been the aim of Rev. Hulme to have these meetings different in character than the usual morning church program. We want the folks of the community to make a special effort to attend at this time. This Sunday being near Memorial day the patriotic orders of Stow, namely, the American Legion, the Junior Order, and the D. of A. have been invited and are expected t 0 be there. There should be a church full. A special program has been arranged. The Men's chorus will perform, and this time Rev. Hulme will deliver a sermon, the subject of which is "How much then is a man better than a sheep?" FRAYBR MEETING. You are urged to attend. This service is held at the church, 7:30 p. m. each Wednesday evening. A. J. KURINSKY TEACHER OF VIOLIN Residence -310 West Graham Road or Instructions given at Stow School on Thursdays

Two weeks ago the Bible School voted to hold a Rally Day the first Sunday in June. Now, we cannot just say we will have a Rally Day, forget all about it and then have a crowd when the time comes. It is as Rev. Hulme said, in his three minute Bible School talk, individual work is necessary, also team work is essential. Organize your class for a 100 per cent attendance the first Sunday in June. Remember BENNIES are to be saved and brought in by the bag full for that special monthly collection, which will be taken at church Sunday morning, June 2nd. THE ORCHESTRA expect to put on a special program the first Sunday evening in June. MOre about this next week. Orchestra members please remember to bring all music to practice at the church 6:00 p. m. Wednesday night. OTIHER CHURCH ACTIVITIES. If you sing the choir deserves your attention and support. Last Sunday morning Perry A.
