O., F R I D A Y, F E B R U A R Y FOR He is everywhere, he is a problem, he has both blessed and cursed the world since the year one. You can't get along without him, they raise crops of him every year, he is a liability, he is an asset, he must be clothed and fed, schooled and trained, he must be taught how to be a man, he is hard to raise, sometimes he gets into trouble, into jail, reform schools, worse he finds life hard and the world unfriendly, so many of his kind just buckles and goes plum to the devil. So what of the boy? You can't operate this planet without boys,1, that's where we start our men, these young urchins, these mischievous well-nigh uncontrollable youths, so hopeful, so desirable, so promising, yet behold such a problem. You can't raise boys as you do trees, you can put a fence around the young trees, but the boy will climb the fence. You can't raise boys as you do girls, if you did they would be sissies, they \wouldn't be masculine. You don't raise boys as you do stock, you cah drive stock, but not the boy. Now this boy problem is not easily solved, as a minister the problem has confronted me many times, as a father of three boys I have often been sorely perplexed. If you have never tried your hand at bringing up boys, you no doubt 17, 1939 No. 7 know just how to proceed. However if you live in a neighborhood where thirty or forty boys run loose, boys who stone cats, fight, p l a y g a m e s and all kinds of mischief. I warrant you will find the boy problem has difficulties. Do you know you can build a house much cheaper than you can raise a boy? At twenty cents per meal a boy at twenty-one has cost you $4, If you allow $2.00 per week for clothes and laundry for the boy, in twenty-one years his clothes have. cost you $2, that totals for food and clothes alone for twenty-one years, the sum of $6, I have allowed nothing for schooling, nothing for pleasure, not even a hair cut or a bicycle to ride on. It costs, it bites into the money to raise boys, they are expensive. But the world must be supplied with boys, these lads must take our places, that is inevitable, that's the order of the day. Old King Time pushes the old men out of the, picture, boys like a crop of winter wheat are coming on to feed the world. Now friend, what can we do for the boy? Help him, again I say help the boy. Don't, kick him, don't club him, master him, put hope in his soul, save him. The boy is the finest bit of machinery that God ever breathed life into, his possibilities are unlimited, he has cost mother, he has cost father oh! so much, he is expensive clay. Sunday A. M. HULME <$, SUBSCRIPTIONS While we have been receiving subscriptions for the Community Church News throughout the whole of the year 1938, most of our subscription renewals were received in January, February and March of last year Therefore because it has been about one year since the greater portion of our last year's subscriptions were received, Howard Sanner has been appointed our subscription agent to serve on good behavior for the months of February and March, and for the present he will cover the main sections of Stow. He is armed with an official receipt book. Ask for and demand a receipt. If it is a renewal have it mark- we have served. This was made possible by donations of civic minded people of the town. The Honorable Dean May, Judge of the Probate Court of Summit County gave the principal address. Miss Sunya Thayer, Guy and Bruce Brace, Loreen Schaffer and Dorothy Gloria Ladicus performed excellently in dance and song. Attorney Buncick along with many other leading citizens were present and participated in the program. We take this opportunity to thank all contributors and es- ' pecieilly Supt. Greensburg had placed first in the district in a recent tournament. Stow's negative a.nd affirmative teams will journey to Tiffin, Ohio, where they will participate in a tournament with about thirty other schools at Heidelberg College on March 31st. The, regular February Girl Reserve meeting will be held Thursday, Feb. 16th. The Stow School Circus presented by the Girl's Physical Education Classes last Saturday night was a great success. The growing world coordination which we have been enjoying has been made possible by the spread of Christianity. Business has developed by Christian honesty on "credit," which means "faith." The Christian home was made possibly by Christian self-control plus a Christian sense of the nobility of womanhood and the preciousness of ^hildhood. > The theory of democracy in government was development of Christian theology.
