1 Trinity Presbyterian Church 4601 S. Surprise Way, Boise ID THE SOUNDS OF CHRISTMAS CELEBRATE THE SEASON! By Kerry Calverley The Christmas season is now upon us, and here at Trinity Presbyterian we have a wonderful way for you to ring in the season! Please reserve Sunday, December 14th at 3 p.m.. Our Music Department will be presenting A Christmas Tapestry, a complete production presented in a gospel style approach. There is something for everyone, whether you like traditional or contemporary music. You will leave feeling the hope of the coming Christ Child and the gifts He brings. Our musical will feature several instrumentalists, our children s choirs, our Sanctuary Choir and several soloists, all working together to share the real meaning of the Season. Wait until you see how many extra singers we have! This concert is a great way to invite family, friends and neighbors to hear the story of Christmas in song. There will be refreshments following the musical, providing a wonderful way to make new friends and catching up with old friends! For those of you holding tickets to the Michael W. Smith concert that evening, there is plenty of time to enjoy the musical, grab a bite to eat and still make it to that concert too! Why not make a day of it? We look forward to seeing you at The Christmas Tapestry musical on December 14th! 2 Musings... By Pastor Joe It s that time again. I was surprised at how the store s decorations jumped from Halloween to Christ mas without a turkey or Pilgrim hat showing up. The Christmas specials, and flood of seasonal movies has started. The shopping countdown began on November 1 st and the struggle has begun in earnest. The battle to keep Christ in Christmas has risen to the top of the list. Thanks to the economy, It might be an easier sell since the presents under the tree are going to be a little thin. Kids and parents are going to have to talk about something other than what they want to get for Christmas. I for one would love it if Jesus entered that discussion somehow. I would be blown away if He was acknowledged to be the reason for the season. I know what some are thinking, Joe don t hold your breath. But I can always hope. I can always HOPE. SMALL DINNER GROUPS By Susan Gross Small Dinner Group Sign Ups for the new quarter are happening in January! Sign ups will be in the commons area during the month of January and drawing for group placement will happen in early February. Come join the fun as we start our new groups that will meet once a month for 4 months February May. Please contact Susan Gross at or susangross323@msn.com for more information. NEWS FROM THE LIBRARY By Connie Hoselton The latest addition to our church library is The Language Of God, by Dr. Francis S. Collins. This was recently referenced in one of Pastor Joe s sermons. Dr. Collins, head of the Human Genome Project, is one of the worlds leading scientists. He believes that faith in God and faith in science can co exist within a person and be harmonious. In the language of God he makes his case for God and for science. 3 MISSION HOLIDAY TEA By Kathy Nielsen The third Annual Christmas Tea will be held Saturday, December 6th, from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Church commons at Trinity. The cost is $15 per person. Proceeds will benefit Mission projects. Invite your friends and family and reserve a table of 4, 6, 8 or more! We also welcome couples too. Ladies, feel free to wear your prettiest hat! Reservations may be made throughout the month of November. Sign up at our display in the commons area. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Kathy Nielsen at TRINITY TREASURES MOPS By Annette Slaybaugh Fall is zooming by and the events at Trinity Treasures continue to be full of energy! And keeping in that spirit, we have a couple of new activities that are pretty exciting. We have started a Wednesday morning Library Time at Trinity for our two year olds. Our wonderful volunteer, Mardell Faber, is reading to two groups of about 6 children each. Another wonderful volunteer is Erma Hultman, one of our new members at TPC who comes to us (with her husband, John) from Spokane Washington. She has volunteered to teach a weekly bible study to our school age children on Tuesday afternoons. Erma hopes to be ready to start this long awaited program in December. We also sponsored a reading readiness parent / child workshop lead by Ruth Calnon. A pizza dinner for the parents and preschool children was followed by a very informative workshop. It was a great opportunity for both Trinity and Trinity Treasures parents to enjoy each other while learning with their children. (see photo on right) The month ended with the traditional Thanksgiving Feast for parents and children. What a great time! Pictures from these events can be found on our new Trinity Treasures website at trinitytreasuresboise.org CHRISTMAS POINSETTIAS By Susan Lewis Christmas is the time of year that we have our annual sale of poinsettia plants to decorate our Sanctuary. Sales go through December 7th. We will use live plants to decorate the Church on Sunday, December 14th and plants will be available for pick up after the music program in the afternoon. Watch for the order forms in your bulletin. Call Susan o r e m a i l : slewis6956@msn.com if you have any questions.
