This was God's special gift to her in response to her total giving of self to God's plan and will. The Church believes that Mary was conceived without original sin. This led the Church to believe that she did not suffer one of the key consequences of original sin; death, and corruption. The Orthodox Church celebrates the Dormition of Mary, the belief that Mary did not die but rather fell asleep and was thus assumed into heaven. Mary provides a model of what God has in store for all who love and give of themselves to God. B I R T H D A Y S Kara Dearing 8/16 Chris Logsdon 8/16 Gold Plating: We have 5 chalices and ciboriums which badly need to be re-plated. The cost of gold plating ranges from $200 to $500 per item. She is the aunt of Joanne Johnson. May she rest in peace. Saint Teresa of Calcutta: Saint Mother Teresa of Calcutta reminds us that everything we do should start from prayer. Her life was a living prayer. Her words remind us of her connection with God and how all of us can reach God as she did.
5 Holy Day Masses Feast of the Assumption Tuesday, August 14 6:00 pm at St. Anthony Wednesday, August 15 8:00 am St. Paul 9:00 am St. Augustine 10:15 am St. Benedict 12:05 pm St. Joseph 5:00 pm St. John the Evangelist 6:00 pm St. Elizabeth 7:00 pm St. Joseph Congratulations on the Baptism of Margaret Campbell Shull. She is the daughter of Michael and Brooke Shull. Congratulations on the Baptism of Cali Marie Green. She is the daughter of Cory & Tonya Green. HOLY DAY READINGS First Reading: A great sign appeared in the sky, a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars. (Rv 12:1) Psalm: The queen stands at your right hand, arrayed in gold. (Ps 45) Second Reading: For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. The last enemy to be destroyed is death. (1 Cor 15:25-26) Gospel: "Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb." (Lk 1:42b) Giving Tree: The St. Paul back to school giving tree is in the back of church. This is one way that our parish supports the school. If you take a tag from the tree, you can simply place the donation under the tree. Religious Education: Registration and a short opening on Wednesday, September 5 at 5:30pm. Pizza will be served. Classes will meet on Wednesdays from 5:30-6:30. Old Church Organ: Once again we have the old pump organ used in the choir loft of St. Joseph Church for many years. It was made by the Adler Organ Company in Louisville. It was given back to St. Joseph as a gift from the Percy & Margie Meredith estate. It can be seen in the parish hall and it still works. Gold Plating: We have 6 chalices and ciboriums which badly need to be re-plated. The cost of gold plating ranges from $200 to $500 per item. We have received $100 so far. Any donations would be greatly appreciated. Going to Church Benefits our Youth: Kids who attend church are less likely to be involved in violence, theft, and vandalism or to struggle with substance abuse problems than their peers. Teens with church-going fathers are more likely to say that they enjoy spending time with Dad and that they admire him. Children who go to church have a lower risk of developmental and behavioral problems. House for Rent: The house at 116 W Chestnut St is available for rent. It has 2 bedroom and 1 bath. The rent is $500 per month. INSPIRATION FOR THE WEEK: "Show me what is physically different between a host that is consecrated and one that is not." These are words that can be heard on the lips of anyone struggling with faith. Perhaps, they are heard on yours. Physical tests will reveal no difference. The difference is seen through faith. In one sense, it is simple. Either we believe that the risen Christ is present -- soul and divinity -- or we do not. The fruits of faith are the proof. In the Eucharist, God enters into the very depths of who we are. However, it is our choice whether we ignore what He does or act fully upon it. The Eucharist can change us. When people see that we are different, they in turn will themselves believe.
