2 Calvary Baptist Church 2018 Nursing Home Assignments Deacon Leader: Kevin Broussard The deacon listed next to the date is the leader for that Sunday and should contact the Nursing Home prior to serving the Lords' Supper. At least four (4) deacons should attend each session. The deacon leader is responsible for picking up the Lord's Supper supply box one-two days in advance of his scheduled date to serve. The supply box is in the room on the left at the end of the first hallway into Calvary Hall. The deacon team leader should contact other deacons on the team to verify attendance. If the deacon team leader is unable to lead on their assigned date, he should secure another team member to take his place. The Chairman of the Lord s Supper/Home Care Ministry is to coordinate with the Calvary Baptist Church staff representative to make sure adequate supplies are on hand for the team. We will not be serving the Lord's Supper on April 1 (Easter), February 4, May 13 {Mother's Day), June 17 (Father's Day), November 25 {Thanksgiving Weekend), and December 16 & 23 (Christmas Holiday). 4 NURSING HOME LORD S SUPPER PROCEDURES The Deacon listed next to the date is the Deacon Leader for that date. He should pick up the supply box 1-2 days before the scheduled date. The supply box is in the storage closet on the left in the hallway on the way to the Prayer Room in Calvary Hall. Check to see that supplies are adequate (wafers, juice, cups, trays and cloths). He should contact each team member prior to scheduled date to serve to verify who will be attending the Lord's Supper at the nursing home. Call the nursing home's Activity Director during the week prior to the service, reminding them of the scheduled service date and time, and asking that residents be informed of the service. You might also ask that residents be identified who cannot leave their rooms but would like to have the service. f so, the Deacon Leader should designate a team member to visit these residents in their rooms to conduct the Lord's Supper. Arrive at the nursing home at least 30 minutes early to visit with the residents connected with Calvary Baptist Church and to find the meeting place and set up the room for the service. A table will be needed (a coffee table is adequate). Place one of the cloths from the kit on the table. Place the serving trays on the cloth with wafers and juice cups (about half full). Cover this with the other cloth from the supply box. Turn off the TV. Music and hymns are optional, depending on the Deacon Leader and not the central focus of the Lord's Supper. Spend a few moments with each person as they arrive, greeting them and getting acquainted. Introduce yourself and the other team members. Set the stage for the meal with light conversation. Talk in positive terms about the church. Make each person and any others present feel that they are not forgotten, that they are missed, how much their prayers are needed, and how much their prayers mean to the pastor, staff and the entire church. Anyone may participate. The service is not just for Calvary members, but try to identify them. Turn the conversation toward the purpose for being there when the group is gathered and the service is ready. Conduct the service and serve the participating residents. f a family member or staff member is not available, you might have to give help to some. Be sensitive to individual needs. The Deacon Leader will give direction to the service and may use the suggested outline below. Scripture readings and prayers may be shared with team members. Clean up afterward. Dispose of any unused wafers or juice that remains in the trays. Check the supply box to assure that it will be ready for the next team. If the table cloth is soiled, please make sure they are laundered. Return the supply box to the closet. If supplies are running low, please contact Kevin Broussard at
5 NURSING HOME LORD'S SUPPER SERVICE SUGGESTED OUTLINE "Calvary Baptist Church wants you to feel a part of our Christian family. Therefore, the membership of the church has given the authority to administer the Lord's Supper to Mr., Mr., and myself. We are very happy to have the opportunity to partake of this meal with you." "This is a spiritual highlight in our lives, for we know of your deep faith in the Lord. We can claim God's promise that where two or three are gathered together that He will be there in their midst. We know that He will be right here with us. Let's bow together and ask God for His presence and blessing upon this service." "Our Father, we are grateful that you did not leave us alone in this world, but you promised in your Word that you would make your place in us and would never leave us alone. We know you are here, for we feel your presence. We pray that you will bless this service. We feel so unworthy to conduct this service, and we know unless your power is present, nothing will happen in our lives. We ask for forgiveness for our sins, and we rejoice that we can come to this meal, your meal, together today in the Grace of Jesus Christ. Bless us right now. Let us feel your Holy Presence. Enter into this service with us, for we ask all this in Jesus' name, Amen." Leader: 'The Bible commands us to observe this meal together in the Lord s name that we might remember that our salvation is in Jesus Christ. He died for us and there is a wonderful promise that Jesus will drink this cup again with us in Heaven. The elements He used were the bread, common bread from the table (the server picks up a piece of the bread and then places it back on the tray). We know it as the staff of life. Then the wine, the fruit of the vine (the server picks up the cup, already poured, and then places it back on the tray). But Jesus gave new meaning to these for all of us who believe in Him. Let's read what His Word says about our meal together. MATTHEW 26:17-30." "We know that the early Christians observed this meal, for Paul spoke of it to the Church at Corinth. Let's read what he said to this church. ICORINTHIANS 11:23-26." "So we see that Jesus gave this meal to us and commanded that we observe it. Paul said that we show forth his coming when we eat and drink of this table." "Jesus took the bread first (server picks up bread). This shall henceforth symbolize my body (server places bread back on the tray) given for you. He was saying, "I shall be the Bread of Life to you, and when you partake of me, you will never hunger again." Let's take the bread now ( the servers pass the bread to the person or persons being served, serves themselves and then the leader). Let's now bless this bread. May we pray? Our Father, bless this bread we now eat. Help us to remember what you did for us on Calvary. Amen." "This is my body, eat ye all of it." "Jesus then took the cup (the leader picks up the wine). This is my blood that is shed for you. Jesus was saying that from this time on, He would be the life for all men, a well bubbling up in us, that when we drink of Him we will thirst no more. (He sets the cup down). Let's now partake of this cup together (servers pass the cups as they did the bread). May we pray? Father, bless now this cup that it shall fill us with your Spirit and Presence. We thank you that you gave your life for us, in Jesus' name, Amen." "Drink ye all of it." (They drink the cup; the servers collect the cups.)
6 "The Bible says that as often as we do this we should remember the death and burial of Jesus. This would be sad, but we also know of the resurrection, don't we? The first Christians always sang a hymn of rejoicing when they went away, happy that in Jesus we have life. Let's sing together, Blest Be the Tie That Binds." " Blest be the tie that binds Our hearts in Christian love; The fellowship of kindred minds is like to that above." (For those who cannot sing or do not feel they can learn to sing, they can have prayer here.) "We have really enjoyed this experience of having the Lord's Supper with you. (Servers are putting away the service). We feel blessed to have had this opportunity and to visit with you. We want you to know that we think of you often and miss you at Calvary Baptist Church. Please keep us in your prayers that God will bless our Church." At the conclusion, please encourage all or those that were in attendance, and thank them for sharing in the experience.
