3 WOMEN ON MISSION Women on Mission (WMU) met February 12th in the Fellowship Building at 10:00 a.m. Prayer & Watchword was repeated and the opening prayer was given by Shirley Hudson. Shirley also blessed the canned goods brought in for the food pantry. This is an ongoing project each month. Shirley and Esther Reams took the valentines, candy and cookies Esther made to residents in Life Care Center and McLarney Manor nursing homes. Brenda Rafferty sent cards to the three guests we had in January. We had a total of 6 present and 1 visitor. The visitor, Linda Langford, became a new member. Welcome, Linda. For our February meeting, we gave a donation to Movin Missions. Next month will be the Annie Armstrong week of prayer. Linda Langford brought up a project that we do our outreach for the carnival workers. Linda will contact Paul Frey before out next meeting for more information. Brenda gave the program on praying thy will be done which was about seeking God first. Theresa Palmer did the Prayer Pattern and also closed in prayer and blessed the food. Shirley had the refreshments. We would like to see more of you women come out. This is a way to find out about our missionaries-- it s quite interesting. Blessing for the meal was given by Shirley Hudson. There was a total of 6 members and one visitor. Devotion and prayer was by Jim Cook which included two games: Jesus Loved and Valentines. Cards were sent to Velda Boxley, David & Cindy Blakely and Becky Babb. Devotions for March will be given by Shirley Hudson; Renae Waddill will be responsible for the program. The program today was given by Neva Wombwell. Closing prayer was given by Gary Taylor. Please join us Friday, March 15th, for our next meeting. 5 How is your relationship with Jesus? In the third and fourth centuries, followers of Socrates and other Greek philosophers began to influence the Church in ways that were different from the traditional Jewish roots of the early Church. The Greek influence appealed more to the intellect, whereas the early Church Hebrew model appealed to the heart. The Greek influence resulted in more emphasis on preaching and intellectual knowledge of God. Over the many centuries, this influence has shown itself in a more systematic approach to the gospel rather than a process of living out our faith. So why is it important for us to understand this? I realized in my own life that I was a product of this Greek system. My walk with Christ focused more on what I knew rather than on an intimate and powerful walk with God. Just knowledge about God without power to express the life God wants to live within is of little value. The more systematic the focus, the less emphasis we place on building deep and caring relationships that result in changed lives. Our early Church fathers knew there was a cost to living out the Word of God, not simply giving mental assent to it. Are you walking with God today in an intimate fellowship? Or, are you only involved in programs and activities designed to do good things? Reflect on Proverbs 23:12: "Apply your heart to instruction and your ears to words of knowledge." We must listen and respond with the heart. Whatever service we give to God should be a result of our relationship with our heavenly Father, not an end unto itself. In Christ, David The Valentine Brunch hosted by the Just As We Are Sunday School class was definitely appreciated by those attending. It was a great time of blessing and fellowship. The food was delicious and the singing of the old hymns was thoroughly enjoyed. To top it off, the waiters and waitresses at Golden Corral and Red Lobster have nothing on our own Park Baptist servers! Thank you, thank you! From a grateful guest!!
