This is God's House, so you and we, too, are His guests. Together we have come to hear His word, and to grow in faith and love to motivate us in our walk with Christ. THIS MORNING WE CELEBRATE HOLY COMMUNION in which our Lord offers us His true body and blood for the forgiveness of our sins and the strengthening of our faith. By partaking of this Sacrament together, we confess our unity in faith and are drawn closer to one another and to the Lord. If you are a visitor, not belonging to the Lutheran Church-Canada, and wish to commune, please speak with the pastor before the service. Anyone is welcome to come to the Altar for a blessing, please simply cross your arms across your chest and the Elders will know how to respond. THE NURSERY is available for times that children are restless, and is equipped with a sound system to enable parents to continue worshipping. LARGE PRINT HYMNS are available for your use. Please pick one up from the tables at the back of the sanctuary, or ask an usher for a copy. CHILDREN S BULLETINS, crayons, scrap paper and busy bags are available from the bookshelves by the sanctuary doors for children to use during worship.

Gary Ring IN OUR PRAYERS THIS WEEK: Homebound: For Special Intercession: For Our Missions: Thank God for the willingness of the 17 preschool families who took the time to bring their child to sing at our anniversary service on April 2 as we celebrated God working through His Word, His sacraments, and His people over the last 50 years. One child was from a member family, 6 from other Christian families, and 9 from un-churched families. Family Focus: OUR WORSHIP IS FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY! We gather as a family in Christ, from the youngest to the oldest, sharing in God s blessings of forgiveness, life and salvation, which leads us to respond with thankfulness and praise. Children grow into worship by being in worship, and by the example and encouragement of their parents and church family. Their presence is an encouragement to all of us! Parents, watch the bulletin for Kids in the Divine Service to help you teach your children about our worship, or for our monthly Good News for Families, our encouragement to you as you raise your children in the Christian faith. The Koinonia services will resume the regular schedule on Sunday, May 7. MISSION OF THE MONTH: Lutheran Church Canada Seminaries Jesus bids us to pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out labourers into his harvest. (Matthew 9:38 ESV). We help support that work by our support of the seminaries. Your gift to the mission of the month for April helps Concordia Lutheran Theological Seminary in St. Catharines, Ontario and Concordia Lutheran Seminary Edmonton in the training and preparation of those who will be labourers in His harvest field. FROM DR. MARTIN: Easter Sunday Matt. 28:1 10 We know that God instituted the festival of Easter among the people of Israel as an occasion for them annually to praise His wonderful acts and to thank Him for their deliverance when He led them out of Egypt.... Now this Easter festival and Easter lamb have been abolished by our Lord Jesus Christ, and in place of it He Himself has become our Easter Lamb (1 Cor. 5:7) and has instituted a far greater Easter festival. For the higher and greater deliverance is that which He accomplished when by His exodus from the world to the Father that is, by His suffering, death, and resurrection, the real Passover, or Easter He defeated our enemy, the devil, death, and sin, and led us out of the real Egypt into the real Promised Land, that is, eternal life. 5 PART TIME EMPLOYMENT: Foothills Lutheran Christian Preschool requires someone to work as teaching assistant for a 3 hour shift on Thursday afternoons for the 2017/8 school year. Please contact Betty Ann for more information at or school@foothillslutheran.com. God s BuildinG Blocks Registration for Vacation Bible School is now open! Children will learn the building blocks which point them to faith in Jesus Christ. Two weeks are offered July and July You may register online at or pick up a registration form at the welcome desk. The Preschool Class for both weeks is full. UPCOMING VOTER S MEETING: We meet for our next Voters meeting on April 30, following a light lunch after service. Mark it on your calendars and plan to attend. Voter s Packages are available on the welcome desk. ON FRIDAY, MAY 5, at 6:30, the Board of Christian Education is hosting a speaker from Creation Ministries International (CMI). The topics will be I Can See Clearly Now: Making Sense of the Creation/Evolution Question and What about Dinosaurs?. All youth and adults are invited to come and bring a friend. Donations to CMI will be accepted to help with the cost of the event. We ll need a few volunteers to help with ushering and moving/setting up the merchandise please contact Michelle Heumann if you re interested. We particularly need someone comfortable with using a portable credit card/debit machine, and making change. OUR THANKS TO THE ELDERS and to all who helped provide our Easter breakfast this morning. We appreciate your service to us in this way. And our thanks to everyone who made this weekend special. We rejoice in God s blessings to us in these holy days, and many people helped make it a special celebration. We thank God for you! NEEDED: PPC SECRETARY. We are looking for someone who is willing to take meeting minutes to fill this position effective May 1. Please speak to Ralf Hinterleitner if interested. CONCERT AT ST. MATTHEW: On Saturday April 22 nd, 2017 St. Matthew Lutheran Church is pleased to welcome Blend for a performance that celebrates Canada s 150 th birthday in song. You ll hear some familiar favourites as well as some new Canadian talent you may not have heard before. The 10 female vocalists of Blend promise you ll go away with a new appreciation of Canadian music. Concert from 2-3:30 pm, admission by free will donation with half the proceeds going to St. Matthew. Please join us for coffee and cake after the concert in the church basement.

6 THE DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS for the May/June issue of the newsletter is Friday, April 21. The Foot Print will be available April 30 th. CHRISTIAN LOVE explains Foothills welcoming spirit! Thank you for that great birthday celebration. Thank you for all the good wishes, the cards, the cakes and your love. Thank you to all who helped to plan and prepare. Merceda Schmidt POSITION AVAILABLE: We are looking for someone to take over the position of office administrator. Resumes are currently being accepted, please send them attention to the Board of Elders or Pastor Bode. See Pastor Bode for more information or him at Deadline for applications is April 25, OUR EVERY MEMBER VISITATION PLANS are moving ahead. We have training meetings for the visitors on Tuesday, April 25 th, and Monday, May 1 st. You only need to attend one of those meetings. Letters will soon go out, encouraging our members to welcome visitors into their homes. The purpose of our EMV is to make contact with the families of our church, encouraging one another in the life we share as God s people, and getting to know one another a bit better. We are truly blessed through the people who are serving as callers please welcome them into your home, and keep them in your prayers. Let us also pray that God would bless our congregation, as we continue to grow together under His grace in these latter days. OUR PRAYER VIGIL WENT VERY WELL, and we are blessed through the people who gave either ½ hour or an hour of their time to pray for the needs of others, for the needs of the church, and for the needs we see around us in our world. We know that God hears the prayers of His people, and that He will answer in accordance with His will, and that we will see the blessings of this effort in the days to come. Prayer is important, even though we tend to take it for granted. God calls us to pray (really, He wants to talk with us!). When we hope things will happen in our lives, or in the church, do we pray? Are you asking God to bless the leaders of our congregation and the leaders of our world? Do you pray for the pastors, and for the Word that they share? Are you thinking of your neighbours or friends who are unemployed? Bring your requests to God! God will answer. God does care for His people. He loves us, and even though His ways may not be our ways, He will do what is best at all times and in all things. As Scripture says: The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working. (James 5:16, ESV) THOT: If care is too small to be made into a prayer, it is too small to be made into a burden.

8 John 5:14 This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. Thank you to everyone who participated in our Easter Prayer Vigil by giving thanksgiving to the Lord for all he has done for us through His church, Foothills Lutheran, and for lifting your confession, adoration, petition and intercession to Him as we go forward in His ministry as His redeemed people. April 24 FOOD BANK SHIFT runs from 5:45-8:00pm. Thank you to all 10 FLC members participating. Our shift is filled! Information will be sent to you by . May 7th. Please plan to join us as we support and show love to our immediate neighbors surrounding the church by cleaning up the common and open areas nearby. We hope you can participate in this event. Many hands make light work! You will likely want to bring a change of clothes and shoes, work gloves, sunglasses and a hat (let's think positively ). Oh and if you have an FLC t-shirt please wear it! Mark 12:31 The second is this: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these.
