Paradoxically, the blindness of Bartimaeus, seated at the side of the road, does not keep him from perceiving more clearly than the crowd who Jesus is. He expresses his conviction by rejecting all support and jumping up toward the one who calls him and heals him. The clear-sightedness of faith not only saves us, but also commits us to the dynamism of conversion. As soon as he is healed, Bartimaeus, image of the faithful community and type of the perfect disciple, begins to follow Jesus along the road. Already a symbol of "those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death" (Luke 1:79), Bartimaeus now becomes the model of those who cry out, who pray to be delivered from their blindness, in order to set out on the way of peace. With the help of the Son of David, we too join the procession of those who believe, those who pray, those who see. The Legion of Mary: working and praying for the Kingdom of God in our Parish. Everyone is most welcome to the 5.30pm meeting in the Parish Centre - new members always welcome. Baby & Toddler Group meets next in the Parish Centre after the 9.20 Mass on Wednesday week: 9.45am to 12pm during term time. Everyone very welcome. RCIA will begin again on Weds 28 October at 8.00pm in the Presbytery. This rite is ideal for anyone interested in learning more about the Catholic Faith, perhaps with a view to being received into the Church. 2 CAFOD Brentwood is currently looking for parishioners in this parish to help them raise awareness of its vital work in developing countries. The main task is assisting at Fast Days. ANNUAL REUNION MASS FOR LOURDES PILGRIMS: All pilgrims past and present are reminded of this year's Annual Reunion Mass which will be celebrated at the Cathedral in Brentwood on Saturday 31st October at 3.00pm, followed by refreshments in the Hall. (Girls & Ladies) On Monday, 9th November Brian Curtois, a reporter for over 25 years, will give us a talk on his experiences whilst working for the BBC. 5 Catholic Singles is an organisation which helps single, widowed, separated and divorced Catholics of all ages (over 18 years) meet, either one to one or through social events. Music Lessons Our resident trumpet player, Graham Hunter, is now available to teach music lessons for all ages. Graham is a multi instrumentalist and can teach among many others: brass instruments, saxophone, guitar, bass guitar, piano and drum kit. If you or anyone you know is interested in learning a musical instrument or brushing up, please contact Graham on VISITORS GROUP The visitors group is now one year old. We are 4 groups of 2 persons who pay visits to those in the Parish that are sick, housebound or just pleased to see a 'face'. We are looking for volunteers to join us so if you feel that you could help please contact David Whines on or Carol Wilson on The Collection for weekend of 20th September was Our Parish needs 1620 over the same period to run.
