The word humility has the same route as the word for soil - humous. It means something very ordinary and rather obviously down to earth. Yet without humous nothing would grow or flourish, plants would not have life and the animals that feed on them would perish. True humility lies in recognising our rightful place. Nobody wants earth in their food and earth in a petrol tank is not good for a car. When we, like the soil, know the gifts that we have and rejoice when using them, rather then trying to be something we are not, we are one step closer to recognising our true vocation and possessing that deep joy and satisfaction which comes from responding to God s call. With every blessing, Fr Gerry A warm welcome awaits you all. Parents, we love you bringing your children to Mass. Always remember, if you sing, they ll sing. If you respond, they ll respond. If you re prayerful, they will be too. Keep the Eucharist at the centre of your life and so will they. As Catholics, one of the most profound ways we encounter Jesus Christ is in the Sacraments. Confirmation Next Sunday will be our Youth Mass. Our next meeting after this will be after Mass on the 26th Feb. St Vincent de Paul Society - Turning concern into action Our mission is to visit, befriend and offer support to any person in need in the spirit of Christian love. Whats happening in the parish 5th February Youth Mass - Our Confirmation candidates will be leading our Mass and warmly invite you to join them. Bacon rolls will be served in the narthex after this Mass so do come along and support our young people if you can. I know it is always appreciated. Healing Mass - Tuesday 7th Feb at 7.30pm. Mass with laying on of hands and the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick. Come and

3 pray for yourself or for a loved one and receive the gentle touch of Jesus's healing love. Coffee Morning - 19th February after Mass for Julia In April this year one of our very dear parishioners will be running her first marathon. As some of you will know Julia has fought a hard and long battle with stage 3 Breast Cancer since March However Julia has made the brave decision to run the London Marathon with Warren by her side. We invite each and everyone of you to come along on the 19th February to help us raise an enormous amount for Julia. Donations of cakes would be great too! Thank you all so much. 25th February Tickets are 5 each and includes Sausage and Chips (Vegetarian option Spring Roll) and your first two games of bingo. (Additional games are available to purchase on the night.) We also have a Licensed Bar and Sweet Shop to make the evening perfect. This is a very funny night and sold out very quickly last year so grab your tickets quickly. Help on the night would be gratefully accepted! Please speak to Christine. Thank you so much. 4 Diocesan Centenary Events 2017 Over the coming year there will be a number of events to mark the forthcoming Centenary of the Diocese of Brentwood. Sat 11th Feb (Feast of Our Lady Of Lourdes, Principal Patroness of the Diocese) This feast marks the official inauguration of the Centenary Year. Every parish will be having a period of Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament on this day. Our period of Exposition will take place from pm. Wed 22nd March - The celebration of Holy Mass on the occasion of the Centenary of the Diocese of Brentwood at 7pm. We have been 4 invitations (2 for each church) for Parish Representatives to attend this special Mass. If you would like to come along please let Fr Gerry know before the weekend of 19th/ 20th February. Two names will then be drawn from each church and the tickets allocated to these people. Fr Gerry will then RSVP on your behalf. Saturday 22 July - Centenary Pilgrimage to R.C. National Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham. 10am pm. A coach will be going from this parish and further details will be available shortly. Please note there will be no Vigil Mass this weekend as the Pilgrimage Mass (3pm) will fulfil the Sunday Obligation. Brentwood Catholic Children s Society is hosting their Annual Charity Ball at The Rayleigh Club, Hullbridge on Saturday 4 th March Tickets are priced at 55 per person to include a drinks reception, three-course dinner, tea & coffee, dancing & entertainment. The cost per person - full board and flights - is 695. Booking information now available at the back of church. Safeguarding Officer for Children & Vulnerable Adults is Mel Packer who can be contacted on White Flower Appeal - the Society for the Protection of Unborn Children (SPUC) will be holding its annual appeal next weekend. In 2017 SPUC is commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the passing of the 1967 Abortion Act. Over 8.7 million unborn children have lost their lives due to abortion in the last 50 years. Since 1967 SPUC has been working tirelessly to uphold sanctity of human life from conception until death. Please help make 2017 a landmark year in SPUC s historic campaign to win legal protection for unborn children.
