1 St Teresa Rochford & St Pius X Hockley 109 Ashingdon Road, Rochford, Essex SS4 1RF frgerry@talktalk.net th Sunday in Ordinary Time In today s Gospel, the Pharisees try to trap Jesus with a trick question.the lawfulness of divorce in Israel was never an issue. Moses had long ago allowed it. But Jesus points His enemies back before Moses, to the beginning, interpreting today s First Reading. Divorce violates the order of creation, He says. Moses permitted it only as a concession to the people s hardness of heart their inability to live by God s covenant Law. But Jesus comes to fulfil the Law, to reveal its true meaning and purpose, and to give people the grace to keep God s commands. Marriage, He reveals, is a sacrament, a divine, life-giving sign. Through the union of husband and wife, God intended to bestow His blessings on the human family making it fruitful, multiplying it until it filled the earth. That s why today s Gospel moves so easily from a debate about marriage to Jesus blessing of children. Children are blessings the Father bestows on couples who walk in His ways, as we sing in today s Psalm. Marriage also is a sign of God s new covenant. As today s Epistle hints, Jesus is the new Adam made a little lower than the angels, born of a human family. The Church is the new Eve, the woman born of Christ s pierced side as He hung in the sleep of death on the Cross. Through the union of Christ and the Church as one flesh, God s plan for the world is fulfilled. Eve was mother of all the living. And in Baptism, we are made sons and daughters of the Church, children of the Father, heirs of the eternal glory He intended for the human family in the beginning. Pilgrimage to Padua with Our Lady of Lourdes, Wanstead, 22nd to 25th October There are still places available for this pilgrimage. We now have English, Indian, Spanish Mexican & Turkish! try their hand at making something beautiful for God. The evening will be Faith based and refreshments will be available. Situations Vacant St Peter's Catholic Primary School Billericay are seeking a Cleaning Operative available to work Monday to Friday between 3.30 and 5.30pm or 4 to 7.95 per hour. Training will be provided if needed. Please contact Joanne Daniels on or joanne.daniels@entss.com Harvest Appeal Our Caritas Ambassadors at St Teresa s School have set themselves a big task of helping the homeless. They are busy decorating and distributing large bags to fill with a variety of urgently needed items such as: Taste your way around the World WORKS OF AR - Thurs 1st Nov In St Teresa's Narthex, 7-9pm Are you creative? Do you enjoy drawing or painting? A group of relaxed, friendly parishioners (who don't take themselves too seriously!) are meeting once a month to spend time together and Coffee, powdered milk, tinned vegetables/fruit, sugar and squash. As a parish it would be great to support our children in this task. They would love your donations!

4 Rosary Crusade of Reparation - Sat 13 th October Starts at Westminster Cathedral at 1.45pm. This will be a procession praying the Rosary to Brompton Oratory where Prayers of Reparation will be recited followed by Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. All members of the Legion of Mary are encouraged to attend to give witness to their faith. CAFOD Family Fast Day was last Friday. Please remember to hand in your envelope. Thank you. Finance 1 st Collection - 23rd September Plus Standing Orders. Next Sunday is Prisoners Sunday - a day we pray for prisoners and their dependants. There will be a second collection for the Prison Advice and Care Trust who rely heavily upon the generosity of donations. Please come prepared and be as generous as you can. Thank you. The Society for the Protection of Unborn Children has produced postcards so that you can send a message to your MP urging him/her to vote against a dangerous abortion bill which is coming up in the House of Commons on Tuesday 23 rd October The bill seeks to discriminate abortion which would remove any effective legal protection for unborn babies and their mothers. Postcards are available at the back of church. Please do take one. Our Sacramental Programmes Reconciliation - Every Saturday at 5pm. Baptism - If you are thinking about preparing your child/children for Baptism please speak to Fr Gerry after Mass. RCIA - Our RCIA programme commences on Tuesday 16 th October at 8pm. First Holy Communion - Our Next meeting for parents is on Tuesday 16 th October at 8pm. It is important that parents attend these sessions and that children attend Mass weekly.
