1 Parish priest: Fr Gerry Drummond MA 109 Ashingdon Road Rochford / My dear people, There is a story that some years ago in the American mid-west, a newcomer opened a lap dancing bar in the centre of a devout Christian town. The following Sunday at church, everyone prayed that the bar would be closed, and that night it was struck by lightening and burned to the ground. The townspeople denied that they had anything to do with the fire so the owner of the bar hired a very expensive lawyer and sued them. In the courtroom the bar owner said: It is a strange thing that I am the only unbeliever in town, yet I seem to be the only one who believes in the power of prayer! Would you pay for a lawyer to prove that your prayers had been answered? With every blessing Coffee after the Mass next week is in aid of the Meningitis Trust and in memory of Dan Bruce. Camp 186: The Lost Town of Berechurch has just been published by Amberley Publishing (ISBN ). It tells the story of the Prisoner of War camp in Colchester during the Second World War which, housed a Catholic seminary for captured students for the priesthood who had been serving in the German army. Parents of Year 5 Children: Applications to Catholic Secondary Schools Please be aware that Government regulations regarding applications to Faith Schools require the parents of the child to be practicing. The Diocese has advised parish priests that to be practicing Catholics, attendance must be regular, meaning every week in accordance with the teaching of the Church, and over a significant period of time, meaning more than a few months.
