1 St Teresa Rochford & St Pius X Hockley 109 Ashingdon Road, Rochford, Essex SS4 1RF frgerry@talktalk.net Sixth Sunday of Easter In todays gospel Jesus gives us a command to love one another which alone sounds quite simple. The challenge, however, is what Christ adds to that command: love one another as I have loved you. Its the as I have loved you bit which is tricky because look how Jesus loved us: even unto death. Fortunately for us, following Christ s command is unlikely to call us to actual martyrdom but the model of love for any faithful disciple must be total, limitless and unconditional. We are called to put others before ourselves, to seek our joy in bringing joy to others, to honour and cherish others simply because they are sons and daughters of God. This love is self-sacrificial and demands we put our own wants, needs and desires aside to serve and love the other - a dying to self that puts the other first. This is the paschal mystery given to us by Jesus himself. For when we give ourselves to the point of no return, God is there to raise us up to new life. The Legion of Mary is here to serve our parish beneath the standard of Our Lady's loving care. Meetings are held at am on Wednesdays in the Narthex of St. Teresa's Church. New members welcome. The Legion of Mary will lead the Holy Rosary during the month of May before every Sunday Mass and all parishioners are welcome to join in this efficacious prayer.

Pope Innocent III Friendship & Fellowship Group We are a small friendly group who meet every other Thursday pm in the Narthex. Come and spend time together in prayer, thanksgiving and friendship. Our next Meeting is on the 17th May. We look forward to seeing you there. Reconciliation - Last Saturday in every month at St Pius X or every Saturday at 5pm. Baptism - This Sunday we welcome Angelo LoBue into the family of God as he receives the Sacrament of Baptism. Congratulations and welcome. If you are thinking about preparing your child/children for Baptism please speak to Fr Gerry after Mass. First Holy Communion - Our next meeting will be the First Holy Communion Rehearsal on Saturday 12th May at 10.30am. This is for children, parents and where possible sponsors. See you all at Mass! Confirmation - Our next meeting is on Sunday 13th May after Mass. The Wellspring Now open every Friday 10-4pm Open this Friday! If any man is thirsty, let him come to me and drink (Jn 7:37) Elaine and her team look forward to seeing you all on a Friday whether it is for a spot of lunch or a coffee and cake. The food is deliciously homemade and great value. The Wellspring is now open on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of every month 9.30 am - 11.am Every Tuesday at 8pm Tuesday 8th May - Celebrating Mary. The second of 5 engaging evenings on how Mary helps us to be filled with God. Starting at 8pm. It was wonderful to have other parishes join us last Tuesday, such a beautiful way to spend an evening. Why not join us for the healing Mass first?

3 Church Notices Coffee Mornings Please join us for coffee this Sunday after Mass. A warm welcome awaits you. The coffee morning last Sunday raised: towards our new Lady Altar ~ well done everyone and thank you! Rosary on the Coast A little article from one of our children On Sunday, something historical happened. All along our coastline people gathered to say the Holy Rosary. It was very special and there were 5 priests and over 100 people. I felt very blessed to be able to go and I saw lots of people I knew. We were all given a beautiful Miraculous Medal to hide in the sand - I hope a little child finds it and becomes friends with Mary too. Please do keep the donations coming in: unwanted, good quality books, cds, dvds, computer and board games or any new, small items. There is a box in both church porches awaiting your contributions. Fire Warden Training - Thursday 7 th June ~ 7pm - 9pm at St Teresa s Church. This is being offered by Precision Safety Services for all parishes is our Deanery. At least 3 people from each parish must attend in order for this training to take place. It would be great to get a representative from each weekend Mass to come along. Please let me know as soon as possible if this person could be YOU. Thank you. Parish Social Events 24th June - Parish Party with a Festival Theme. The evening will include Mass, a shared Fayre in the hall to present all related groups from our Deanery. The evening will conclude with Adoration, intercessions and a simple Benediction. Brentwood Catholic Children s Society has secured Tandem Skydiving places on Saturday 7 th July 2018 at Headcorn Airfield in Kent and is inviting applications from adventurous people throughout the diocese who would like to experience the excitement of a 10,000 feet freefall parachute jump and can commit to raising 500 for bccs. St Teresa s is an outstanding Catholic School. This report reflects everything we hold dear in our school and is a reflection of the hard work of our staff, the commitment of our Governing Body, the support of our parents, the wonderful pastoral care of our Parish Priest and most of all the amazing knowledge and outstanding behaviour of our children.
