2 THE FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH AT WORSHIP November 19, 2017 New London, New Hampshire WE OFFER OURSELVES IN PRAYER AND PRAISE 10:00 a.m. Prelude: As the Deer Martin Nystrom Welcome Responsive Reading Leader: Oh, that you would rend the heavens and come down, that the mountains would tremble before you! Congregation: As when fire sets twigs ablaze and causes water to boil, come down to make your name known to your enemies and cause the nations to quake before you! Leader: For when you did awesome things that we did not expect, you came down, and the mountains trembled before you. Congregation: Since ancient times no one has heard, no ear has perceived, no eye has seen any God besides you, who acts on behalf of those who Leader: wait for him. You come to the help of those who gladly do right, who remember your ways. But when we continued to sin against them, you were angry. How then can we be saved? Congregation: All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags; we all shrivel up like a leaf, and like the wind our sins sweep us away. Leader: No one calls on your name or strives to lay hold of you; for you have hidden your face from us and have given us over to [b] our sins. Congregation: Yet you, LORD, are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand. Leader: All: Do not be angry beyond measure, Lord; do not remember our sins forever. Oh, look on us, we pray, for we are all your people. *Hymn 469, Lord of All Hopefulness SLANE Pastoral Prayer

9 WELCOME TO THE FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH OF NEW LONDON We unite and inspire people to discover and celebrate the light of Jesus Christ in everyday life. To learn more about the First Baptist Church of New London, fill out a Visitor s Card for contact by Pastor Glidewell, or visit our website: ANNUAL MEETING OF THE MEMBERS The First Baptist Church of New London Annual Meeting of the Members will be held 11:30 a.m. immediately following the 10:00 am service. The purpose of the meeting will be to review the Preliminary Budget for 2018, to update members on the Annual Plan for 2017 and present the 2018 Annual Plan, to hear proposals from the Nominating Committee and elect individuals necessary to fill the open positions on the Church Council, Boards, and Committees, and to transact such other business as may properly come before the meeting. Copies of the preliminary budget are available in advance of the meeting in the church office. Or you may request that they be sent to you electronically. A quorum for this meeting will be 47 or 10% of the currently registered members of the church with an address in the State of NH. Only members may vote. Voting by proxy is not permitted. Friends are welcome but may not vote. NOVEMBER IS NATIONAL GRATEFULNESS MONTH in everything with prayer and supplication with Thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God (Philippians 4:6) Share your joy by writing what you are grateful for on a colorful paper leaf and hang it on the Gratitude Tree in Cleveland Hall. The tree will be there all month! BOXWOOD TREES Mark your calendars! On Wednesday, November 29, Vicki Simonds will lead a class in making decorative boxwood trees for your holiday tables. 10 CHRISTMAS COOKIES FOR SHUT-INS AND SPECIAL FRIENDS This is one of our favorite FBC traditions. Sign up to bake, pack and/or deliver Christmas cookies for those members and friends of FBC who are less able to be out and about. In addition, we also remember those who have experienced the death of a spouse in the past year as well as those in our community who are always ready to serve (police department, fire department, and post office, library, hospital, VNA and FBC staff). Again the process is easy: Bake your favorite cookies and bring to the church Sunday, December 10 th, Monday, December 11 th or early Tuesday morning, December 12 th. Pack and/or deliver the packaged cookies - It s a delightfully delicious, wonderful way of letting people know we appreciate them! We will be packaging the cookies beginning at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 12. THE GIVING TREE (Also known as the VNA & Hospice Kids Christmas Project) Starting next Sunday, wish list items for local families-in-need will be available on the Christmas tree in Cleveland Hall. To participate, simply select a tag from the tree and register the tag in the folder. Then purchase, wrap, secure the tag to the gift and bring the gift to the church office by Wednesday, December 6. MEMORIAL POINSETTIAS ACT NOW if you wish to have a memorial poinsettia in the Meeting House during the Christmas season. Here s the procedure to follow: (1) Call the Church Office, , before Thursday, December 14. Give details to be included in the bulletin: name of donor(s) and name of person or persons being remembered. (2) Call your local florist and order the size and color poinsettia you want. Plants will be delivered by the florists to the church on Friday, December 15 at 9:00 a.m. and placed in the sanctuary. Should you wish to choose your plant in person, please see that it is at the church at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, December 15 with dark green foil and a card included naming the donor. We will need to know whether you will pick up your plant on Tuesday, December 26th or if you wish to have it delivered to a shut-in.
