2 Concordia Highlights March 17, 2019 We are glad you are here: Members and guests, please write your name in the Welcome to Worship folders at the end of the pews so we can more faithfully serve you and get to know you by name. A Nursery for ages 6 weeks to 4 years is available in the Church Nursery and PK-4 Room at the school. The nursery is available during all services. Children s Bulletins are also available as well as worship bags. An usher can give directions to the nursery or give children's bulletins. Communion: Jesus offers his body and blood to eat and drink. Since He says Given and shed for you for the forgiveness of sins, by faith we receive what He offers. If you have questions, please speak to the Pastor or an elder before communing. The cups in the center of the trays contain a white non-alcoholic wine, and gluten-free wafers are available. You may receive the blood of Christ in the small cup, from the common cup, or by dipping your wafer in the common cup (intinction). 4 Connect - Grow - Bridge Work days at Camp Linn Haven are April 13 th, 20 th &27 th and May 4 th & 11 th. It can be a fun way to volunteer and serve as a family. Friday, March 23 rd is the annual CCDS Dinner & Auction fundraiser. It s not too late to purchase tickets! Call the school office at to purchase your tickets. There are many silent auctions items including an autographed guitar and concert tickets from Eric Church. The Teen Living class will again use the Emmaus Room on Mondays from 2:10-3pm. This class will meet through May 20 th. Thank you to the 1 st -4 th Grade Chorus for singing at the 9:30am Service today. You did a wonderful job! On Palm Sunday, April 14 th, we will celebrate Jesus triumphant entry to Jerusalem. Holy week begins on Palm Sunday. We will have our regular Sunday Services on Palm Sunday and special services on Thursday and Friday. On Maundy Thursday at 11:15am and 6:30pm, we will celebrate the Last Supper that Jesus shared with his disciples in Jerusalem before his crucifixion. Good Friday services will be at 11:15am and 6:30pm. We will have a Tenebrae service (a service of darkenss) that follows Jesus to his crucifixion and ends in solemn darkness. Thank you to Rev. Dr. David Ludwig for preaching today. "Preparing for Worship" is the class Pastor Nelson has been teaching, looking at the assigned lessons for each Sunday. During Lent, if some are interested in continuing, we can meet in the library after the evening Lenten service on Wednesday nights. Please join us. Community Outreach Easter Celebration It is time to prepare for the Community Outreach Easter Celebration on Saturday April 20 th, 10:00 am - 12:00 pm. Over 100 children and their families will fill the sanctuary for praise songs, an Easter devotion, crafts and activities, egg hunting and a picnic lunch. Donations of small toys and candy for eggs as well as donations of hard boiled eggs for decorating are appreciated. We are replacing all of our plastic eggs this year (thousands of them). Place your donations in the baskets at the Welcome Stations and outside the Children's Minister's office. Monetary donations can be given to the office. BLCFM Kids In Worship! Our Worship word this week for March 17 is, protection. Protection is any measure taken to guard against damage caused by outside forces. Preservations from injury or harm. This week we learn of King Herod and Jesus. the Fox and the Hen! As you may know, the fox and hen are natural enemies. In the Gospel lesson for today we learn that Jesus compares King Herod to a fox and himself to a mother hen gathering the people of Jerusalem to protect them. This illustration by our Lord shows us that danger was at hand. If you observe a hen in the open field with her chicks running about her and then a fox or some mischievous animal comes slyly close to them, the hen calls the brood and covers them with her large strong wings and is ready for their defense. She will die rather than let one of them be lost. Among the fiercest animals, the young run to their mothers for protection but no creature wild or tame can cover her young completely as a bird can do with her strong folding wings. We have this same protection with Christ. Those who trust in Him are covered by His righteousness and strength. Jesus sadness over Jerusalem shows His heart toward all mankind. 6 Wednesday, April 3 rd, Concordia will be hosting the Martin Luther High School choir from Greendale, Wisconsin. They will be passing through our area on their spring tour of the Southeast and will be presenting their concert REDEEMED by the Blood of the Lamb during our regular 6:30 PM Lent worship service. The students who will lead us in worship need places to stay the night before they leave the next morning to their next venue. If you have extra room in your home, consider having a pair of students stay overnight at your home. They travel in groups of two (two boys/two girls) and need nothing more than a shower, a bed (one bed for each pair), maybe some snacks after the service, and some conversation. If you are willing to house a pair (or more) of students, please contact Kyle McClure in the church office to be added to the list. (828) The Call Committee met on February 11 and began forming the approach and questions we will use in the upcoming interviews for our new Pastor. These questions are derived from the Sunday survey questions gathered by the T/CAC Committee, suggestions from the District in their manual, and input from the Committee. Having received confirmation from the District office that the Concordia Call package was complete, District informed us that we would likely receive our initial Call List of candidate Pastors in March. We submitted four names for consideration and District will, at its option, include or exclude them from our Call List. Finally, there is a new page on the Church website for our Call Committee. We are working on a presentation to show accomplishments so far and next steps which we'll update so everyone can stay informed. Look for that update soon! 7 Prime Timers met this past Monday at Granny's Kitchen for lunch and a presentation from Heather Ball from Meals on Wheels. The presentation also covered services available from Senior Services. A good meal and lots of fellowship was had by all. Our next meeting in April will be the on 10 th of the month. We will be hosting the Lenten meal after the 11:15am Lenten Service. We will be serving three kinds of soup along with bread and various condiments and desserts. We will be playing bingo after the meal. Our trip to the Hudson Dinner Theater is all set for the evening of April 11 th, We will be going by car, leaving the church at 5:30 PM. Daniel Boone Inn is catering the meal. Thanks to all those that turned out for our luncheon meeting at Granny's Kitchen this past week. It was nice to see a few that haven't been able to attend our meetings the past few months. National Youth Gathering: Our target goal for fundraising is $39,100.00! 2 nd Year Confirmation Ed. Meeting is this weekend, March 23 rd : Join us in Youth Central from 9am-12pm for this required meeting. We will be measuring for the white robes. The Faith Statements and Red Stoles will be assigned; and, we will go over the 40 Questions sheet. Lunch will be served.
