Members and guests, please write your name in the Welcome to Worship folders at the end of the pews so we can more faithfully serve you and get to know you by name. A Nursery for ages 6 weeks to 4 years is available in the Church Nursery and PK-4 Room at the school. The nursery is available during Bible classes, 10:30am, and 10:45am worship services. Children s Bulletins are also available as well as worship bags. An usher can help give directions to the nursery, give children's bulletins or get a worship bag. Today our series on 1 Peter will continue under the theme Don t Be Surprised (1 Peter 4:12-19, 5:6-11). VBS is in three weeks! High School Graduates: Please call or the church office with where you are graduating from, what your future intentions are, and any awards you have received so we can honor you in our 10:30am service next week or sharman@concordianc.org Memorial Day One year following the end of the War Between the States, the first remembrance of the many fallen soldiers of this conflict took place on May 5, 1866 in Waterloo, New York. Three years later General John A Logan, leader of an organization for Northern Civil War veterans, called for a nationwide day of remembrance. He proposed decorating the graves of the all the fallen soldiers, thus this holiday was first known as Decoration Day. This led President Garfield to make a speech at Arlington National Cemetery. He instructed the 5000 people in attendance to decorate the graves of the 20,000 Union and Confederate soldiers buried there. After World War I the southern states also joined in this day of recognition for honoring all solders who have died in any war. This weekend you are invited to take time for this remembrance, and to give thanks to the family members of those who made the ultimate sacrifice in love of country. 7 Consider volunteering 1 or 2 hours each week to create decorations for VBS. We meet Thursday s through June 15 th, 4-8pm. Drop in and stay as long as you can. Students needing service hours, this is a great way to earn them. For those who cannot volunteer during VBS week, this is a way to serve and invest in our Concordia Kids. It is the first time the women here at Trinity Hmong Lutheran Church (2103 Mt. Olive Church Rd, Newton) joined together to raise funds for our Church, and our LWML women group that just started recently. Our Egg Roll Sale is July 1 st 12pm-3pm. You are invited come buy our Egg Rolls at our location, or pre-order them and we'll deliver them to you. For large orders please pre-order by June 3 rd so we will know about how much we would need to make by then.$1.25ea $6 for 5 $12 for 12 The Jonas & Catherine Hollar reunion will be held on June 11 th at 1pm at Bethel Lutheran Church. Lunch is provided and will be served from 11am 1pm. There will be games and events sponsored throughout the day. Pastor McClain will have a devotion at 2pm on the lawn. Bring a lawn chair and blanket and share your stories from your experiences at Camp Linn Haven! For the past four Sunday s the Stewardship Board recognized those who have served and invited everyone to use their Time & Talents in Worship Ministries, Education Ministries, Serving Ministries, and Leadership Ministries. CVMC - AHEC 105 The Mission and Ministry Board is partnering with Concordia Christian Day School during the month of May to help the school's Scholarship Fund. The fund accepts financial donations to provide the school with the ability to provide families in need with tuition assistance. Please make your check out to Concordia Lutheran Church memo School Scholarship Fund. Please place your check in the offering plate. Communion: In the Lord s Supper, Jesus offers the faithful His true body and blood to eat and drink. These words, Given and shed for you for the forgiveness of sins, show us that in the Sacrament forgiveness of sins, life, and salvation are given us through these words. These words, along with the bodily eating and drinking, are the main thing in the Sacrament. Anyone who has questions is invited to speak to the pastor or elder before communing. The cups in the center of the tray are filled with a white non-alcoholic wine and gluten free wafers are available for those with allergies.
