And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age. - Matthew 28:19-20 PARISH VISION STATEMENT They devoted themselves to the teaching of the apostles and to the communal life, to the breaking of the bread and to the prayers. Awe came upon everyone and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles=they ate their meals with exultation and sincerity of heart, praising God and enjoying favor with all the people. And every day the Lord added to their number those who were being saved. - Acts 2:42 AS A PARISH, WE WILL FULFILL THE MISSION AND LIVE THE VISION BY... Becoming a worshiping people who give praise and glory to God by keeping the Lord s day Holy, by celebrating Holy Mass on Sunday, and by encountering the Lord Jesus in the sacramental life and daily prayer. Becoming a missionary people who live our Catholic faith on a daily basis in witness of the Lord Jesus to the world; to our family, our neighbors, our friends, and our co-workers. In this way Jesus is known by the fruit of our lives and in our love for others; this is at the heart of evangelization and catechesis. Becoming a merciful people who put our faith into action by practicing the spiritual and corporal works of mercy: The Spiritual Works of Mercy: instructing, advising, consoling, and comforting The Corporal Works of Mercy: feeding the hungry, sheltering the homeless, clothing the naked, visiting the sick and imprisoned, and burying the dead May He support us all the day long, till the shades lengthen and the evening comes, and the busy world is hushed, and the fever of life is over, and our work is done. 4 PARISH LIFE RESPECT LIFE HOSTING MOVIE EVENTS St. Mark Respect Life committee is hosting showings of the film Sexual Revolution in the school gym on Friday, February 22 nd at 7:00 pm, Saturday, February 23 rd at 7:00 pm and Sunday, February 24 th at 3:00 pm. The film runs about an hour and a half. No tickets needed we ll even throw in the popcorn. Free will offerings will be accepted. The film was produced by Springtime Productions and released the summer of 2018 in time for the 50 th anniversary of Humane Vitae. Considering the topic, recommended age is 14 and up. The film was never released in theaters; just on an as requested basis. This is a great movie for youth groups, Confirmation classes and families with older children. For more information contact Rebecca Anderson at (206) VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR AUCTION Our parish auction is fast approaching and the decoration committee needs volunteers. All parishioners, school or not, are welcome to the gym on Saturday, February 2 nd from 10:00 am - 1:00 pm. No skills necessary! Just come and we ll find the perfect job for you KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS CRAB FEAST Our Knights of Columbus will hold their famous Crab Feast on Saturday, February 9 th. This popular event only happens once a year. Tickets are $35 each and will be on sale in the vestibule after all Sunday Masses through February 3 rd. SEATS STILL AVAILABLE ON THE BUS St. Mark will charter a bus for the March for Life this Tuesday in Olympia. This year we will only have one bus so sign up soon. We will attend a Mass for Life at Sacred Heart in Lacey at 9:30 am before continuing to the March in Olympia. The bus leaves at 7:30 am and returns by 3:00 pm. SATURDAY 5:00 PM LECTORS NEEDED We have two vacancies that we need to fill for the responsibility of lectoring at the Saturday 5:00 pm Masses. Commitment would be to lector once a month or once every other month depending on the number of weekends in a given month or if substitutes are needed. Lectors are responsible for proclaiming the First and Second Readings and the Prayers of the Faithful and training will be provided. 5 FAITH FORMATION N SEATTLE CATHOLIC YOUTH Middle School Sunday Gatherings: This Sunday, January 20 at 5:00 pm Topic: Digital Discipleship. Snapchat, Instagram, texting technology is an important part of our day! How can we use this everyday technology to be living saints in the world? We ll talk about the struggles we sometimes face on social media and with technology and come up with some Christ-like solutions. High School Discipleship Group: This Sunday, January 20 at 7:00 pm Topic: Is the Holy Spirit Really a Person? All high school students are invited to join our intentional small group community to discuss faith and life. Come join us at St. Catherine Parish. FAMILY FORMATION The family...is the cradle of life and of every Vocation -Pope Benedict XVI Being a parent has always required fortitude. As we continue to live the January virtue of fortitude at home, let s also look ahead to how February s virtue of prudence helps us to live holy lives. Our children have been preparing to receive this wonderful sacrament over the past several months. Both our parish and school children will be receiving their First Reconciliation on Saturday, February 2 nd at 10:00am. Please arrive in Sullivan Hall at 9:45 am. Attention parents! Please spend time this week and next week reviewing the Reconciliation scrip that Father Mitchell prepared for you to practice with your child. It is important they feel comfortable when making their confession. Help them too, to review the Act of Contrition. Copies will be available for them to take into the confessional, if needed. 6 LIONS DEN St. Mark Parish Men s Fellowship Group St. Mark Parish is excited to begin a new Men s Fellowship Ministry for men of all ages and stages of life. The Lions Den is an on-going ministry that is small group based. Our first session is Saturday, January 26 th. Being a man in the world today takes courage and virtue. What does it take to be a man of faith, as a father, husband, or leader? We invite you to join our group of faith-sharing men. Gatherings take place on Saturday mornings from 7:30-8:45 am in Sullivan Hall. The Lions Den will be using a variety of men s Catholic programs throughout the year. The emphasis is on prayer, small group formation and discussion. We encourage men to prayerfully consider joining the Lions Den Men s Ministry Fellowship Group. When: Gatherings are on the 2 nd and 4 th Saturdays of each month. Where: Sullivan Hall from 7:30-8:45 am. Why: To build faith, virtue and courage among the men of St. Mark Parish.
