And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age. - Matthew 28:19-20 PARISH VISION STATEMENT They devoted themselves to the teaching of the apostles and to the communal life, to the breaking of the bread and to the prayers. Awe came upon everyone and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles:they ate their meals with exultation and sincerity of heart, praising God and enjoying favor with all the people. And every day the Lord added to their number those who were being saved. - Acts 2:42 AS A PARISH, WE WILL FULFILL THE MISSION AND LIVE THE VISION BY... Becoming a worshiping people who give praise and glory to God by keeping the Lord s day Holy, by celebrating Holy Mass on Sunday, and by encountering the Lord Jesus in the sacramental life and daily prayer. Becoming a missionary people who live our Catholic faith on a daily basis in witness of the Lord Jesus to the world; to our family, our neighbors, our friends, and our co-workers. In this way Jesus is known by the fruit of our lives and in our love for others; this is at the heart of evangelization and catechesis. Becoming a merciful people who put our faith into action by practicing the spiritual and corporal works of mercy: The Spiritual Works of Mercy: instructing, advising, consoling, and comforting The Corporal Works of Mercy: feeding the hungry, sheltering the homeless, clothing the naked, visiting the sick and imprisoned, and burying the dead May He support us all the day long, till the shades lengthen and the evening comes, and the busy world is hushed, and the fever of life is over, and our work is done. 4 PARISH LIFE A NOTE REGARDING FR. MITCHELL Fr. Mitchell s normal day off is Monday. He will generally leave the parish after the Sunday liturgy schedule and return late on Monday evening. Anyone planning events at which they would like the pastor s presence should work with this schedule. The best way to communicate with the pastor either for answers to questions or scheduling an appointment is by use of his parish address: frmitchell@saintmarkshoreline.org. This helps to avoid phone tag. Fr. Mitchell frequently refers to his while at the parish. If there is a critical need to make contact with Fr. Mitchell when he is away, that should be done through the parish office. ST. GIANNA MOLLA WOMEN S GROUP Do you like to read? Are you interested in learning more about the Catholic faith? Would you like to meet other women in the parish with similar interests? If so, please join the St. Gianna Molla Reading Group at St. Mark. We meet every Wednesday evening at 7:00 pm in the Parish Center Fireside room. We are currently reading When Women Pray, Eleven Catholic Women on the Power of Prayer, by Kathleen Beckman. The campaign is an extraordinary opportunity for all parishioners to play a role in the strengthening of our priest Church in western Washington. The campaign will focus on raising $100 million to strengthen our priest retirement and medical plans, support our women religious and assist our parishes. Parishioners will be asked to consider making a gift above and beyond their existing support for their parish and Annual Catholic Appeal. Archbishop Sartain will call on the entire Archdiocese to make a gift to the Called to Serve as Christ campaign. Your support to this campaign will impact the future of the Archdiocese of Seattle for years to come. You can also find volunteer sign-up forms in the pews. ST. MARK SPIRITUAL ADOPTION Please continue to pray daily for the 53 babies spiritually adopted by our parish. We will conclude our Spiritual Adoption Program in January, 2019 with a baby shower. Gifts will be collected for a local pregnancy center. LIGHT WEIGH RETURNS IN SEPTEMBER Be the size that God created you to be! He has the answers for our weight, food struggles and all temptations! Take your struggles to the King. Light Weigh One King meets at St. Mark in Shoreline on Mondays from 7 8: 30 pm. Plan now to join our next session which will start on September 10 th. This is a 12-week Catholic Bible Study DVD program recommended by priests, doctors, nurses & Prevention Magazine for weight-loss and health. No weigh-ins. Twenty-four hours a day, every day, a member of our parish is praying before the Blessed Sacrament. If you want someone mentioned in the prayers in the Sunday Masses, please call the Parish Office. We also have a Prayer Intention book in our parish. It can be found in the church on the podium to the left of the Pieta statue (which is just to the left of the main exit doors). This is a place where you can write down the concerns of your heart, either for your loved ones or for the world at large. If there is an immediate need for prayer that you want in the bulletin, please continue to call or your request to Laura Lynch at laural@saintmarkshoreline.org. Even if you do not have a prayer request, please stop by the book or pick up a bulletin and see what prayers are needed by your parish family.
