And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age. - Matthew 28:19-20 PARISH VISION STATEMENT They devoted themselves to the teaching of the apostles and to the communal life, to the breaking of the bread and to the prayers. Awe came upon everyone and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles:they ate their meals with exultation and sincerity of heart, praising God and enjoying favor with all the people. Becoming a worshiping people who give praise and glory to God by keeping the Lord s day Holy, by celebrating Holy Mass on Sunday, and by encountering the Lord Jesus in the sacramental life and daily prayer. Becoming a missionary people who live our Catholic faith on a daily basis in witness of the Lord Jesus to the world; to our family, our neighbors, our friends, and our co-workers. In this way Jesus is known by the fruit of our lives and in our love for others; this is at the heart of evangelization and catechesis. Becoming a merciful people who put our faith into action by practicing the spiritual and corporal works of mercy: The Spiritual Works of Mercy: instructing, advising, consoling, and comforting The Corporal Works of Mercy: feeding the hungry, sheltering the homeless, clothing the naked, visiting the sick and imprisoned, and burying the dead

4 PARISH LIFE ST. MARK PARISH MOTHERS GROUP Join us for the second year of our parish Mothers Group where mothers of all ages and stages come together for support, friendship and development of our faith! Our first gathering of the year is Wednesday, October 3 rd from 9:30-11:30 am in the Parish Office Fireside Room and will continue on every first Wednesday of each month. We will join together to share resources, build community and discuss ways to bring our faith into our roles as mothers. Children welcome! OUR STUDENTS PRACTICE CHARITY To introduce the virtue of Charity this month, St. Mark students were treated to an assembly led by the eighth grade teacher, Mrs. Martin. Mrs. Martin shared her slides and her experiences in Uganda this summer, focusing primarily on the remote village of Bushure and the students of St. Elizabeth Nursery and Primary School. The families of this village can barely earn two dollars a day and struggle not only to feed their children but to even send them to school. Without an education, these students do not have the skills to build a better future for themselves. St. Mark students also experienced carrying 20 liter containers of water weighing over 44 pounds to simulate the twice daily trek that villagers make. Moved by these stories, the students and faculty of St. Mark eagerly began to collect coins and bills to pay the yearly $50 per student tuition fee. As of this date they have collected over $420 and each class has adopted a student they will sponsor for the year. Students are also bringing their change to Friday morning masses to donate to the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Daily mass attendees and students have contributed over $300 so far, which will be used to provide aid to those in our area who need food or rent and utilities assistance. Students will continue their yearly collection of canned food in November for Thanksgiving and Christmas meals, create cards to include in Christmas and Easter baskets and help restock the shelves in the St. Vincent de Paul pantry. A splendid example of faith in action; well done St. Mark students! CALLED TO SERVE AS CHRIST DINNER Join your fellow St. Mark Parishioners on Saturday, October 13 th from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at a free dinner to celebrate the Called to Serve as Christ campaign! The dinner will be held in the St. Mark gym. Spend time with other parishioners and learn more about the importance of the campaign in providing for the long term care of our Diocesan Priests and Women Religious. HELP NEEDED - SICK & HOMEBOUND MINISTERS The vitally important ministry of bringing Holy Communion to the Sick & Homebound within our parish boundaries needs more volunteers. Assignments range from bringing Jesus in the Eucharist to people s homes or to care facilities or in serving as a substitute minister. Ministers must pass a background check and receive Safe Environment training in addition to ministry training and we will assist you every step of the way. All materials and training are provided. 5 FAITH FORMATION RCIA It is not too late to join RCIA. Sessions meet on Wednesday evenings from 6:30-8:00 pm in the Parish Office Fireside Conference Room. Families with students in grades 6-12 are invited to a night of prayer, worship, and to come and see what N Seattle Catholic Youth has in store for our youth this year. A free meal will follow. FAMILY FORMATION The family...is the cradle of life and of every Vocation -Pope Benedict XVI We are excited to begin our third year of Family Formation here at St. Mark. Our first session of the year is next Sunday, October 7 th. Please join us in the gym from 10:05-10:55. We will gather as families in the gym, introduce our catechist and the children will then go over to the school for their lesson. New this year will be a teen break out group following Father Mitchell s presentation. If your family has a teenager and is looking for other teens to talk about how to live the virtues in their lives, please encourage them to come with you.
