2 Pastor s Letter: Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Before we begin the Season of Advent, and then the Season of Christmas, we must first end something. Advent and Christmas focus our attention on Jesus taking on human flesh for our salvation. But, before we focus on that beautiful gift, we first end our current liturgical year by celebrating Jesus Christ the King. Americans are unsettled about kings and queens. Although we can be fascinated by the British royalty, we are happy they are in the UK and not the USA! Kings are a concept that does not resonate too well with us. Still, the Lord clearly speaks about His kingdom throughout the gospels. We know the Kingdom of God is here and now and we are part of the kingdom by virtue of our baptism. And every kingdom needs a king. Recognizing Christ as king simply recognizes basic truths about Jesus that are the part and parcel of our daily lives. Jesus is Lord; He is God and our most important priority. He rules our lives, our Church and our world with goodness, beauty, truth, justice, mercy, and love. If we give our lives over to Him and deepen our relationship in this way, then Christ truly reigns in our hearts and souls. When we know Him in this way, then He truly becomes more than a king He becomes a loving Father who embraces us in His love. And that s the goal of the spiritual life; that s the true fulfilment of Christ s kingdom! God s blessing to you.via Christo Rey! Fr. David Mulholland

Then in His mercy may He give us a safe lodging, and a holy rest, and peace at the last." J. H. Cardinal Newman Changes in the Prayer List As Father said at Mass last weekend, we now have a Prayer Intention book in our parish. It can be found in the church on the podium to the left of the Pieta statue (which is just to the left of the main exit doors). This will be a place where you can write down the concerns of your heart, either for your loved ones or for the world at large. We will continue to have the prayer sheet in the bulletin, but the names will appear for a shorter time. If there is an immediate need for prayer that you want in the bulletin, please continue to call or your request. Even if you do not have a prayer request, please stop by and see what prayers are needed by your parish family.
4 Christmas Giving Tree The Giving Tree will, once again, be up and running after Thanksgiving. Please plan to share your resources with those who have less than you. Knights of Columbus Christmas cards The Knights will be selling Christmas-themed cards after all Masses. Please support them as they put Christ back in Christmas. In thanksgiving for all of the blessings that we have received, please bring your family to Mass on: Thursday, Thanksgiving Day, November 26, 9 am At this Mass you may bring donations of food or money or gift cards for St. Vincent de Paul, but also, bring an item that you are going to serve at your family meal. Father will bless it before you take it home. Spiritual Adoption Month #8 Now your spiritually adopted baby is finished developing and is concentrating on gaining weight, she might be making her mother uncomfortable with her size. She will need a layer of fat to help her stay warm after she leaves the perfect temperature inside her mother's womb. In a short time, this baby will be born. Your baby's mother appreciated the prayers you have said for her and her baby throughout the pregnancy. It has not been easy, but your prayers have given her the grace she needed to bring her baby to term and the life God has planned for her. He was the only person present at all three of the key events in the life of Christ: the Transfiguration, the Crucifixion, and the Resurrection. In addition to this, he cared for Holy Mother Mary for the remainder of her earthly life, giving him countless opportunities to glean from her wisdom. Further, he was the only person ever taken up in the spirit into heaven, before the throne of God, and shown the coming victory of good over evil at the end times. Finally, he was the only author in the New Testament who was proclaimed a prophet by an archangel according to the Word of God. All this makes the Gospel of St John a true blessing the inside-story of Jesus Christ as revealed by God to His prophet, the beloved disciple. Please join us as we study this most profound, yet mysterious, of all the Gospels. Our bible study of the Gospel of St John will begin on Thursday, January 7, from 7 to 9 pm in Sullivan Hall, and will meet each Thursday until early June. For the first class, you will need to bring your bible and order our study guide: St John s Gospel, A Bible Study Guide and Commentary by Stephen K. Ray. You can order this from Amazon or through your local Catholic bookstore. Please read Chapter One of the Gospel and Chapters 1a & 1b from the Stephen Ray book before the first class. The book is currently selling for under $15 from Amazon (under $12 for the Kindle version), and appears to be in high demand, so you should order soon. The retail list price is $ For more information, contact the class leader, Claude Golden, claude.golden@gmail.com, or call Mission Statement for our parish: Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age. - Matthew 28:19-20 Vision Statement for our parish: They devoted themselves to the teaching of the apostles and to the communal life, to the breaking of the bread and to the prayers. Awe came upon everyone and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles they ate their meals with exultation and sincerity of heart, praising God and enjoying favor with all the people. And every day the Lord added to their number those who were being saved. - Acts 2:42 Boy scout Christmas wreaths Troop 309 will be selling Christmas wreaths on Thanksgiving weekend, November Each 24" wreath has juniper berries, three different types of boughs, and three pine cones. They are priced at $25 each. Troop 309 has been a part of the St. Mark community since 1958 and greatly appreciates your support.
