Cardinal Newman PARISH MISSION STATEMENT Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age. - Matthew 28:19-20 PARISH VISION STATEMENT They devoted themselves to the teaching of the apostles and to the communal life, to the breaking of the bread and to the prayers. Awe came upon everyone and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles:they ate their meals with exultation and sincerity of heart, praising God and enjoying favor with all the people. And every day the Lord added to their number those who were being saved. - Acts 2:42 AS A PARISH, WE WILL FULFILL THE MISSION AND LIVE THE VISION BY... Becoming a worshiping people who give praise and glory to God by keeping the Lord s day Holy, by celebrating Holy Mass on Sunday, and by encountering the Lord Jesus in the sacramental life and daily prayer. Becoming a missionary people who live our Catholic faith on a daily basis in witness of the Lord Jesus to the world; to our family, our neighbors, our friends, and our co-workers. In this way Jesus is known by the fruit of our lives and in our love for others; this is at the heart of evangelization and catechesis. Becoming a merciful people who put our faith into action by practicing the spiritual and corporal works of mercy: The Spiritual Works of Mercy: instructing, advising, consoling, and comforting The Corporal Works of Mercy: feeding the hungry, sheltering the homeless, clothing the naked, visiting the sick and imprisoned, and burying the dead
4 PARISH LIFE ST. MARK SPIRITUAL ADOPTION Your little baby now weighs six ounces. He has fingernails and eyelashes. He has his own unique fingerprints, which will remain the same his whole life. His taste buds are working. His sense of hearing is present at 14 weeks and now improving. There are no major developments anymore. Your spiritually adopted baby is already well-formed, internally and externally. At this stage rapid eye movements have been observed which is a sign of dreaming. What a miracle he is! Keep praying for your spiritually adopted pre-born baby. We will conclude our Spiritual Adoption Program in January with a baby shower where we will collect gifts for a local pregnancy shelter. SVDP THANKS AND NEW REQUEST We are grateful to the parishioners who recently donated and delivered furniture to the family who escaped domestic violence with only the clothes on their backs. We now have another family in need of furniture. Please contact Mary Kay Snedden for more information at (206) We would also like to thank the handy man who donated his time and materials to put a new light fixture and switch in the home of one of our neighbors. She had been working in a dark kitchen during the winter months. Thank you for your continued support! LIGHT WEIGH RETURNS IN AUGUST Be the size that God created you to be! He has the answers for all of our temptations. Our parish has a friendly, no weigh-in group. Light Weigh One King will meet in the parish center Mondays from 7:00-8:30 pm. Plan now to join our next session which will start August 6 th. This is a 12-week Catholic Bible study DVD program recommended by priests, doctors, nurses and Prevention Magazine for weight loss and health. View the orientation video at If you are interested please contact Rebecca Anderson at (206) or becsterbear@gmail.com. Finally find peace with food! RAISE THE ROOF UPDATE Thank you St. Mark Parish for making our new roof a reality! So far we have collected $299,254 of the $350,000 pledged. We have modified the plan for the interior repairs to help us get a better idea of the best way forward. The ceiling in Sullivan Hall will be taken down this summer (existing lighting & HVAC secured) and we will use some good tiles from Sullivan Hall to make repairs to the vestibule hallway. For Sullivan Hall this will give us an opportunity to explore the option of having a more open ceiling concept as opposed to replacing it with a tile-grid system similar to what we have now. We may ultimately go back to a grid system, but want to explore more options of both ceiling style and lighting choices. LINKS FOR LIFE The Cor Project Founded by Christopher West this new apostolate aims to equip men and women to learn, live and share the beauty of the divine plan for human life, love and sexuality in a new evangelization. Healing the Culture This organization develops and implements pro-life educational resources and programs from youth to adult and across religious and secular settings towards a culture of life.
