3 Parish/ School Life 95 Years St. Anne Parish St. Vincent de Paul Society Congratulations and Thank You, Vincentians! As our parish celebrates its 110 th year, it s good to note that our parish St. Vincent de Paul Society has been around for almost all that time! Our parish chapter of St. Vincent de Paul was established 95 years ago in Their spirituality of humble service and care for our neighbors in need helped establish a tradition in our community that has lasted to this day. Over the past ten decades, literally thousands of people right here in the Queen Anne neighborhood have been helped though our parish St. Vincent de Paul members. Vincentians seek to not only provide materially for people s needs, but to stand in solidarity with them. It is a very personalized ministry of caring. Vincentians go out and meet face-to-face with each person or family that has asked for help. They seek to be present to them, and to bring Christ s presence to them. This past year, the St. Anne St. Vincent de Paul team made over 200 home visits and dispersed over $30,000 in financial assistance. As St. Vincent de Paul parish chair Nick Coleman pointed out, None of this would have been possible without the faithful and generous patronage of so many St. Anne parish donors. You are invited to become part of this long, wonderful legacy. If you feel you might be called to serve as part of the St. Vincent de Paul ministry, please contact the parish office. Students will be doing seasonal studies on how each of these applies to us and our way through life. Welcome (2) to the new members of the staff. Matthew Naumes, OSB Healing through Forgiveness Accepting the Grace of Letting Go The first Italian Dinner was held 45 year ago in The first Dinner with Our Homeless Neighbors was held 35 years ago in Martha s Workers came together for the first time in St. Anne School first began charging tuition in Prior to that time, the children of St. Anne parish families attended free of charge, as long as their parents supported the parish and attended Mass every Sunday. a one-day retreat with Ron Ryan, D. Min. Saturday, Sept am - 3 pm We all know Jesus command to forgive, but letting go of anger and resentment isn t easy. Some of us carry around hurts for decades, weighing us down and keeping us from experiencing greater peace in our lives. This one-day retreat will show us that forgiving doesn t mean absolving, and letting go doesn t mean forgetting; but it does mean turning to God for the grace to do what we cannot do on our own. 5 Parish Life Retired Teachers Needed Are you a retired certificated teacher? St. Anne School is looking for individuals who might be interested in signing up to substitute periodically. Open House for Catholic Cemeteries Associated Catholic Cemeteries is hosing an open house at Holyrood, Calvary, and Gethsemane Catholic cemeteries on Sunday, September 16th from Noon to 4 pm. Stop by to say hello to our staff, ask questions, walk the grounds, visit an ancestor, or just enjoy some refreshments. Are you or is someone you know interested in learning about what is involved in becoming Catholic? RCIA is the process that helps those who have never been baptized, and those who have been baptized in other Christian traditions, discern their call to become a member of the Catholic Church. The group meets throughout the year to learn about Catholic teaching, traditions, prayer and life. Campaign for Human Development There will be a collection next week for the Campaign for Human Development. This collection supports programs that address the causes of poverty and provide a sustainable future for those who are struggling across the country. There will be envelopes in the pews or you can go to the parish website and make an electronic payment. The St. Anne School Class of 1968 will be celebrating their 50 year reunion! We also want to include any schoolmates graduating in 1966, 1967 and 1969 as we celebrate the good old days and reminisce about our grade school years at St. Anne School.
