2 Pastor s Letter: Jubilee of Mercy Our Holy Patron: Saint Mark Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, For the first time in a number of years, we are celebrating the feast day of our patron, Saint Mark, at the Sunday Masses, along with our multicultural celebration of food, fun and festivities after the Saturday Vigil Mass. Patron saint feast days, for parishes and towns, are big celebrations in other regions of the world. Not so much here in North America. As a result, we tend to take for granted our parish namesake; we can become indifferent toward him, and then even fail to seek his intercession for our parish family on a regular basis. The communion of saints is a great gift for us in the Church. We have a host of heavenly people that are ready and willing to intercede before God on our behalf. Our favorite saints and saints who are known for their help in particular matters, are all there to be our prayer partners before God. And so, too, is our patron, Saint Mark. I ask his intercession each day for the wellbeing of our parish family here in Shoreline. I would encourage you to develop a prayer relationship with our patron Saint Mark. Spend some time to read and pray with his gospel and intentionally ask for his help for our parish, our school, and the ministries that we have in the parish. And don t forget to seek his help for all the people in our parish boundaries; that we might draw closer to Christ and be open to receive the graces He desires to give us! Cardinal Newman PRAYER REQUESTS Each week we offer prayers for the ill and deceased of our parish family. If you want someone mentioned in the prayers in the Sunday Masses, please call the Parish Office. We also have a Prayer Intention book in our parish. It can be found in the church on the podium to the left of the Pieta statue (which is just to the left of the main exit doors). This is a place where you can write down the concerns of your heart, either for your loved ones or for the world at large. If there is an immediate need for prayer that you want in the bulletin, please continue to call or your request. Even if you do not have a prayer request, please stop by and see what prayers are needed by your parish family.

4 Mother s day cards are available in the vestibule, in the rack to the left of Sullivan Hall. There will be no morning Mass on Thursday, May 5. There will be no afternoon confessions on Saturday, May 7. The school received this message after singing at Anderson House last week: Thank you so much for bringing the kids in to perform for our residents. After they sang and started greeting the residents I got all choked up. From my vantage point as they walked thru the room I could sense the presence of the Holy Spirit ministering to the residents. It was healing and powerful all at the same time. Thank you so very much. I would love for your kids to come as often as your schedule permits. Please express my gratitude. God is good! Life Chain needs you! Starting this coming May 1 and all subsequent first Sundays of each month, Myron Miller will be leading a Life Chain at the corner of 99 and 220 Street in Edmonds. Signs are available and the only thing missing is you. Volunteer to stand up for life for an hour or so. The Chain will occur between 2:00-3:30 pm. You can be the best witness there is to make people stop and think about life. Myron has done this by himself...he needs some help. Be there! Questions? Light Weigh One King meets at St. Mark on Mondays from 7 8: 30 pm in Sullivan Hall. Plan now to join our next session which will start on June 6. Light Weigh One King is a 12-week Catholic Bible Study DVD program for weightloss and health. There are no weigh-ins. On May 3, 2016, St. Mark Parish School is participating in Seattle Foundation s GiveBIG part of the nationwide giving day, Give Local America which brings communities and thousands of nonprofits together for 24 hours of giving. Please visit our giving day site anytime before 11:59 p.m. on May 3 to make your contribution. By making a donation by May 3, your gift will go a long way in helping us meet our Annual Fund Drive goal, and because of the generosity of community donors, each donation dollar will be stretched even further, to meet the financial needs of our Parish School. All donations made through Seattle Foundation s GiveBIG website will receive a percentage of the matching funds (or "stretch") pool. This percentage depends on the size of the stretch pool and how much is raised in total donations on GiveBIG day. McTeacher Night News Thanks to everyone who came and supported St. Mark Parish School at McTeacher Night. $ was raised between coupons, tips, and a percentage of gross sales. This is the highest amount raised since McTeacher Night started. Thank you!
