People: We have responded to Christ s call, and seek to be built into a spiritual house, a living reminder of God s presence on earth. Leader: Once we were no people, but now we are God s people, called out of the darkness into God s marvelous light. Therefore, we sing with the Church in all the ages: People: Blessed be your name, O God, our Redeemer. By your mercy we have been born anew to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. *OPENING HYMN My Hope Is Built #368 UNISON PRAYER Holy God, whose will is justice for the poor and peace for the afflicted, open our minds and pierce our hearts with compassion for those who are without. Remind us of the power of resurrection that comes through selfless giving in Christ. These include the church building and the two parsonages. They are also responsible for all insurances and utilities connected with these properties. The Board of Trustees budget consists of two types of spending: discretionary and nondiscretionary. Nondiscretionary spending includes such things as utilities, building insurance, maintenance, and mechanical emergencies of which we have little or no control over. Discretionary spending includes such things as special projects, like the Shrader Memorial Garden renovation, Chapel window replacement, and exterior door replacement. Also, projects that are brought to the Board from various groups from within the church that have an impact on the facilities are from our discretionary spending. The Board of Trustees consists of 9-11 members, with each member responsible for a specific area such as finance, technology, safety and security, insurance, and operations. They also look for persons from time to time to serve in an advisory capacity when certain projects arise that require extended overseeing. This is the only committee whose chairperson is elected by the Trustees. They also have a co-chair and a secretary. Official minutes are required to be kept as specified in the United Methodist Discipline and for auditing purposes. Our theme this year, Faith That Is Alive, reflects Ephesians 3: We are so thankful for all the work and commitment that members of this church contribute to FUMC. We are indeed a blessed church family. Our annual financial campaign allows us to continue the work of this church and its contributions to our own members, as well as those in our community who need our assistance. Ephesians 3:16-17 Faith That Is Alive You should have received your 2019 financial campaign materials at home by now, including your Estimate of Giving Card. Information in the packet will remind you of the programs we offer, along with contributions we give to those in greater need. If you are able to attend church on Loyalty Sunday, you are encouraged to bring your Estimate of Giving Card for a special collection. 8 V O L U ME 4 5, I S S U E 4 3 WEEKLY ANNOUNCEMENTS October 28, 2018 Leaf Raking Nov. 4 Step Ministry's Leaf Raking outreach will take place on Sunday, Nov. 4. We will sit together during the 11:15 am service and then have lunch immediately following. We will rake for members of our church and for people who live in the Central Park Elementary neighborhood. Bring your own rake, leaf blower, or tarp and join us for an afternoon of fellowship and service! We will finish up around 3 pm. If you would like us to come to your home and take care of your leaves, please call the church office at Sr. High Roll Bake November 11 is the first Roll Bake of the fall. All proceeds from Roll Bakes go to support the Sr. High United Methodist Youth Fellowship and our Spring Break Mission Trip. Both types of rolls can be donated to Hidden Harvest a food rescue and distribution agency here in the Great Lakes Bay Region! So, if you would like to support the youth, but would rather not have the rolls yourselves, consider donating them to Hidden Harvest. The Sr. High youth will receive the proceeds, while Hidden Harvest and those they help are given fresh rolls. (All donations of rolls to Hidden Harvest must be prepaid.) The cost is $3.50 for plain, and $4 for cinnamon. You can place your order or donation of rolls to Hidden Harvest by: Contacting your favorite Sr. High youth. Filling out a yellow pew card (for personal orders) and putting it in the offering plate or dropping it off in the office with Attn: John Engler. Filling out a white pew envelope (for donation of rolls to Hidden Harvest) and putting it in the offering plate or dropping it off in the church office.
