If you are interested in walking, please see Andy Ault in Fellowship Hall between services or call to get a pledge envelope and additional information. If you can't walk this year, please consider donating to a Middle School youth that will be walking to support this mission to end hunger locally and around the world. Together Everyone Accomplishes More What a great team effort to support our neighbors. We served four appreciative home owners through the efforts of 32 FUMC on-site workers, Memorial Presbyterian workers, and many behind-the-scenes staff and encouragers. Thanks to all who had a hand in Mission Midland. You made a difference in your neighbor's lives. Be watchful of needs that we may meet when we next convene Mission Midland. UMW Bazaar/Bake Sale/Luncheon Saturday, November 21 Mark your calendar for the annual United Methodist Women's Bazaar/Bake Sale Luncheon. Tables will be available for rent at a cost of $10 per table for individuals wanting to sell their handcrafted items. United Methodist Women will have a table of items for purchase as well. 3 UMCOR Responds to Refugee and Migration Crisis UMCOR is responding to the many migrants arriving on the shores of Europe from war-torn regions. Thomas Kemper, general secretary of Global Ministries, of which UMCOR is a part, cites the agency s ongoing work in bringing assistance to those uprooted and displaced from Syria, Iraq, and elsewhere. A portion of a recent statement read: For years, UMCOR has worked with partners in serving persons displaced by fighting in Syria and Iraq, and persons temporarily living in other Middle Eastern locations or making their way westward. To date, UMCOR has allocated $2 million to provide the basics of life to persons displaced in Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, and Turkey. Our work among those displaced persons must continue. In addition, UMCOR is collaborating with partners to provide for refugee families in Greece, including the islands of Lesbos and Kos. With an Italian partner, it is responding to refugees from North Africa arriving in Sicily and other parts of Italy. Kemper also emphasized that European and international ecumenical organizations are urging all of the churches and church-related humanitarian organizations to collaborate in the long-term work of resettlement, much of which will be in Europe. Concerning the Middle East, we have long-term relationships with the Middle East Council of Churches and its member communions. Your gifts to the International Disaster Response will support UMCOR's ongoing work with refugees and migrants, as well as other emergencies across the globe. 4 UMW Fall Rummage Sale October Drop-off of donated clothing and other items will be: Sunday, Oct. 11, 1:00-5:00 pm Monday, Oct. 12, 9:00-11:00 am Please note: jewelry and collectibles should be taken to the Little Theater. The sale times will be: Monday, Oct. 12, 12:00-6:00 pm Tuesday, Oct. 13, 9:00 am - 6:00 pm Wednesday, Oct. 14, 9:00 am - 3:00 pm ($2 per grocery bag) We are collecting paper grocery bags to be used during the sale. If you can donate, please place the bags by the windows in the office area of the church. All proceeds will be used for missions. Thank you for your assistance. Stay Healthy We have several hand sanitizer dispensers around the church at convenient locations. Please help us all stay as healthy as possible this winter by using the sanitizer frequently! Saturday, October 17 6:30 pm Youth Center Here's a chance to get reacquainted, reminisce about the summer, and discuss new ideas. We welcome new people (singles and couples). This is a fellowship group for couples and singles mostly in the 40-60s age range. Please bring an appetizer or dessert to share. If so, please prayerfully consider becoming a Stephen Minister. You don't need to solve anyone's problems -- just walk beside someone while God guides them. The next training will take place starting in January. It is a 50-hour commitment that prepares you to share the love of God to someone who needs encouragement or a listening ear. 6 Hygiene Kits 2015 Church Women United are collecting Hygiene Kits until November 6. The kits will be sent to the Church World Service warehouse in New Windsor, Maryland. To assemble a Hygiene Kit, you will need: One hand towel, approximately 16 x 28 (no fingertip or bath towels) One washcloth One bar of soap (bath size in wrapper) One wide-tooth comb One nail clipper One toothbrush (in original wrapper - NO toothpaste, please) Six standard size band-aids Place all items in a one-gallon plastic bag with zipper closure. Remove excess air from bag and seal. A collection box is available on the window ledge in the church office area. Value: $ Processing cost: $2.00/kit (Do not enclose processing monies with kits.) Rose Burleson has issued a challenge: If an individual/church group completes 10 Hygiene Kits, Rose will donate the $20 processing fee for the first five kits of that 10 kit donation. Rose will donate up to $ total thus she will pay the $20 processing for five kits for the first five groups/individuals donating 10 completed kits. Parents can pick you up about 3:00 pm. There will be No Evening Meeting. October 11: After playing some fun games, we will have our annual Pie the Counselor night.
