13 Where there is no vision, the people perish; but happy is he who keeps the teaching. Proverbs 29:18 Devoon #5 --- October 9, 2016 What does God say about freedom in Christ? Let us prepare our minds and hearts for where God is taking this church! What does God say about the freedom Christ offers? How does that impact our lives? A$ribute: Sunday: Savior For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16 How does your salva"on change your interac"on with others and your worship of God? Monday: Truth So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. John 8:32 As a disciple of Christ, how does the truth of salva"on set you free? Tuesday: Kindness Do you not realize that God s kindness is meant to lead you to repentance? Romans 2:4 How has God s kindness led you to repentance and changed your life? Wednesday: Love but God shows his love for us in that while we were sll sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8 Christ took the punishment for your sins because God loves you so much. Do you thank God for this incredible gi*? Thursday: Hope May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope. Romans 15:13 How has your rela"onship with God given you hope in a world that o*en does not make sense? How has your rela"onship with God given you hope despite sins from your past?

14 Friday: Faith I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. Galaans 2:20 How have you seen Christ working in you and changing you? Saturday: Serve For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don t use your freedom to sasfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love. Galaans 5:13 God willingly takes our sin so we are free to show our love for God by serving and loving others. How does the call to serve challenge you? How does your service glorify God? Consider: How have these verses helped you reconsider what true freedom is? How does your life reflect the freedom Christ offers? Consider: How are you sharing the freedom we have in Christ with others who need to know Him? Visioning: How can FUMC help people in the community know, love and share the freedom God has given us in Jesus Christ? In the evening I went very unwillingly to a society in Aldersgate Street, where one was reading Luther s preface to the Epistle to the Romans. About a quarter before nine, while he was describing the change which God works in the heart through faith in Christ, I felt my heart strangely warmed. I felt I did trust in Christ, Christ alone, for salvation; and an assurance was given me that He had taken away my sins, even mine, and saved me from the law of sin and death. John Wesley
