2 The Harvest is Plenteous Matthew 4:18-22, Matthew 9:35-37 Introduction The Amish farmer I. The power is in you A. He is calling his disciples 1. Jesus is walking alone along the sea and observes Peter and Andrew fishing along the shore 2. Peter and Andrew recognize the uniqueness of this man who is talking to them 3. Jesus calls them for a purpose, this is a call to discipleship B. Why did Jesus call men like fishermen and tax collectors to be his disciples? 1. Jesus was not interested in the fame of the person used in spreading his message of reconciliation II. He commissions his disciples to help him A. People are coming our way 1. We can complain about it 2. We can ignore it 3. We can minister to it 4. The pyramid effect B. Pray to the Lord of the Harvest 1. God is the Lord of the harvest, it is His not ours 2. Prayer is no substitute for labor. It is the glue between the Lord and the laborer Conclusion Don t sell yourself short

Prayer Shawls Available - If anyone would like a prayer shawl to give to someone in need, please contact Toni Hagendorf at New Scouts BSA Troop for Girls On Monday nights for the past 60 years, an important part of Supplee s program for youth has been Boy Scout Troop 542. With membership of almost 100 young men, our troop is the largest and most active in the area. The BSA has recently made this flagship program, now rebranded as Scouts BSA, available to girls, and Supplee is forming a troop for girls to meet on Wednesdays starting next month. Scouting is great fun, but more importantly it s educational, builds character and trains leaders. Over 150 young men have become Eagle Scouts through our program, and we re looking forward to presenting our first Eagle to a young woman. Girls between the ages of 11 and 17 can join, and we need women 21 or older to help. Come to our open house this Wednesday, January 16, at 7:30 PM in the Crossroads Center to learn more, and share this invitation with friends and neighbors. Younger girls can join Cub Pack 410, also sponsored by Supplee. Contact Jay Eibner if you have questions. Volunteers Needed for Family Craft Time March 2 The Fellowship Committee is working on a plan for a morning of family crafting and we are looking for 8-10 people to share their talents. You might teach us how to make jewelry, greeting cards, art, slime, or hair braids. Or you might sponsor a service project like making prayer blankets or neck pillows. If you have a talent you are willing to share at this event, sign up on the bulletin board in the narthex or contact Faye Kolos or Jenn McKnight. Sanctuary Flowers - The flower chart for 2019 is on the bulletin board in the hallway leading out of the narthex. When you would like to donate flowers, please sign next to the date, choosing chancel (listed first) or communion table. There will be only chancel flowers on communion Sundays (the first Sunday of the month). At the same time, please pick up a flower envelope (at the bottom of the chart) and fill it out. When doing so, be sure to check whether or not you will take the flowers and also include your dedication information. The cost of chancel flowers is $40; a communion table arrangement is $20. Please make your check payable to "Supplee Church."

5 Stewardship & Finance Year-End Update for Year End Annual Year End Actual Budget Actual Contributions 462, , ,377 Expenses 478, , ,153 Net Surplus/(Deficit) (15,152) 0 1,224 We thank you for listening and responding to our messages calling for your financial support. The fellowship and unity that our members and friends displayed in November and December were incredible. We look to carry over this experience to achieve more than ever for our members, friends, missions and community in We will provide additional details and discussion at the Annual Meeting on January 27th Offering Envelopes Are Available - Please pick up your 2019 offering envelope boxes from the table in the hallway outside of the Parlor. This saves us from having to mail them. If you do not have envelopes there but would like to receive some, just let the office know at Adult Education Join us today at 10:45 a.m. for one of our three Adult Education classes, described below: Keep Calm and Be Encouraged (A Study of Second Corinthians) Led by Russ Hensel and Jay Eibner, Fellowship Hall Paul had a tumultuous relationship with the church at Corinth. After founding the church on his second journey, problems in the church caused him to write to them four times, visit at least once, and send at least one emissary there on another occasion. Two of the four letters have been lost, and the one we call Second Corinthians is actually the fourth and final one. By the time Paul wrote this letter, the problems had been resolved, and the letter reflects that reconciliation and the encouragement it brought to the apostle. It s a deeply personal letter and gives us insight into Paul as a person and pastor. In Second Corinthians, Paul summarized the efforts he had made in the cause of Christ and provides practical advice to the Corinthians on how to keep their faith strong. His message is as applicable to us today as it was to them 2000 years ago. He talks about how God's faithfulness and love give us hope and enable us to persevere in the face of adversity. He teaches that, for churches to be effective, they must confront and solve problems, not ignore them. The letter also addresses stewardship, and the need for sound doctrine. Join us as we delve into this letter each week this winter. The Life You ve Always Wanted Led by Chuck and Jan Wormington, Sue Dunswell, and Bob Flanagan, Parlor What does true spiritual life really look like? What keeps you from living such a life? How can you pursue it? John Ortberg invites you on a road to transformation and spiritual vigor that anyone can take. Cultivate new intimacy and confidence in prayer. Taste the benefits of slowing life s frenetic pace. Learn how to be guided by the Holy Spirit. As in a marathon, the secret lies not in trying harder, but in training consistently. Proven by followers of Jesus over the centuries, the spiritual disciplines are exercises that strengthen your endurance race on the road of growth. As you continue down that road, you ll see the signposts joy, peace, kindness, and all the hallmarks of a faith that s vital, real, and growing. Adult Confirmation Class Led by Pastor Don Hoagland, Crossroad Center In this class we will use scripture to examine aspects of faith such as the sacraments, the trinity and the church. You will be able to write your own Statement of Faith. If you have any questions about this class, speak with Dr. Hoagland.
