For biblical Israel, one image for God was king; another image, found in Ezekiel, is that of shepherd. In Ezekiel the role of shepherd and king are related. God will look after and tend my sheep. As shepherd, God says, The lost I will seek out, / the strayed I will bring back, / the injured I will bind up, / the sick I will heal. The Lord promises to appoint one shepherd over them to pasture them, my servant David. This promise is fully realized in the person of Jesus, Son of David. Paul speaks of the primacy of Christ, the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep. In his resurrection, Jesus comes to reign over everything, and this reign will last until he has put all his enemies under his feet. When this happens, Christ will also be subjected / to the one who subjected everything to him. By acknowledging Christ s sovereignty, we also acknowledge the sovereignty of the one who sent him. The text in Matthew today presents an image of Jesus in his glory, judging the nations on his throne. Like the shepherd in Ezekiel, he will separate the sheep from the goats. This is an image of judgment, reminding us that we are accountable to God for our lives. As Christ s flock, we depend on him, but we are also called to love him and to acknowledge his presence in our neighbor by meeting their basic needs in hunger, thirst, and illness. Jesus tells us that we cannot love him if we do not love our neighbor. Let us once again renew our pledge to serve Christ the king by living lives of true discipleship. For reflection: Why is it sometimes difficult to love the least ones? How can I better express my loyalty to Christ the king?

We made ornaments to sell to raise money for St. Anthony's for children who are admitted to the hospital. These ornaments will be for sale after the Masses in December. All the work was done by the children and the children will be selling them. Please support them in this new endeavor!! It is a time when we remember others in need and help wherever possible. In this spirit, we begin preparation of the 27 th annual Holy Name Giving Tree project. Please help us make this project a success by taking tags from the Giving Tree following masses beginning on Saturday, November 29 th. If you could please purchase one or two items listed on the tags and return them, gift wrapped with the tag on them, by Monday, December 15 th. Donations of nonperishable food items are also being collected. Monetary donations are also welcome. The Giving Tree deliveries will take place on Sunday, December 21 st. Volunteers are needed for preparation of the tags on Saturday, November 29 th at 10:00 a.m. in the church basement. Volunteers are also needed on Sunday, December 21 st beginning at 8:30 AM to pack, wrap and deliver the food and gifts. The Giving Tree is a great project for the whole family. What a wonderful way to teach the children the true meaning of the season! Volunteers may call Sue Smetana at or the Parish Office BABY BOTTLE MINISTRY UPDATE The Baby Bottle Ministry is coming to a close and to date we have $5,900 collected!!! All bottles should be returned to the church by now or delivered to the rectory during normal working hours. The bottles need to be returned (filled, partial or empty) ASAP so we can distribute funds to the four Pro-Life organizations we sponsor before Christmas. Thanks to all who have been so generous! Further collective updates to follow when bottles are returned. Planning to Marry? Please return the bottles!! The Diocese requires that couples planning to marry begin their preparation with the church at least six months in advance. Couples must contact Father Ed to begin All-Day Marriage Preparation sessions will be offered January 25 and March 22, Couples may contact Jody and Dan Bohney to register for one all-day session: djbohney@yahoo.com

Parish Life Youth Council News Rake and Run is a service project our Youth Council participated in last week.

The group had a great time and truly enjoyed the treats received.
