She works untiringly, reaching out to the unfortunate and nourishing those she loves with the fruit of her labors. Physical beauty is fleeting, but inner beauty is an unfading prize. Paul says that we must be tireless in our preparations for the day of the Lord, because it will come when we least expect it. Though we are in the dark about the time of his coming, as children of light we must keep alert to whenever he might appear. Jesus compared himself to a man who went on a long journey and trusted others to carry on his work in his absence. When he returned, he expected each one to make an accounting. We too must be good stewards of God's gifts in order to share our master's joy. If we have not invested our time, treasure, and talents wisely, we will find no place in God's reign. For Reflection: How faithful am I to my baptismal commitment? Have I used the gifts given to me to benefit others? Planning to Marry? The Diocese requires that couples planning to marry in the church begin their preparation at least six months in advance. Couples must contact Fr. Ed for more information and to get started. Confirmation Please keep our Confirmandi in your prayers as they participate in the NET retreat on December 7th from 4:00-9:00 PM. All of the students in the Confirmation program will be a part of the retreat offered by a group of young adults that travel across the United States ministering to youth.

We will discuss the church's view on the preferential option for the poor, and what our responsibility is to our neighbors, both in our community and on the global level. All in the parish are welcome to attend. We will be meeting early this month because of all the happenings in the parish in December. December 4 we will meet after the 9:00 AM Mass and on December 5th we will meet at 6:00 PM in the gym of the parish center. A reminder for all the regulars: bring your green bag for your home kit materials and have chapters 9-12 completed in the text books. Coffee, Tea and Chocolate, OH My! We will again be offering coffee, tea and chocolate from Equal Exchange Fair Trade. These are organic products that are made with sustainable farming methods. The coffee will be $8.00 and the tea and chocolate bars will be $2.50. These make wonderful Christmas gifts and stocking stuffers. These products will be available at the Generations of Faith sessions on December 4th and 5th in the gym. Even if you are not attending GOF, you are welcome to come by and make a purchase after Mass on Sunday or at 6:00 PM on Monday. THANKS! Faith Formation A big thanks to all who donated to the Confirmation Food Drive. What a great way to usher in the holiday season and remind us to share what we have with others. If you would still like to donate food, please bring it to one of the Generations of Faith sessions on December 4th or 5th in the gym. Adult Faith Sharing All adults in the parish are welcome to join our "coffee clutch" on Thursday mornings at 9:15 in the faith formation office. We discuss books, films, magazine and newspaper articles, plus a little bible study, catholic teaching and faith sharing. We usually wrap up our meeting at 11:30 AM. It was a very powerful evening. Everyone was very effected by the presence of God. Someone that attended this event told me, " It was incredible!" Jim Hamilton, the leader of the Charismatic prayer group, gave his testimony about his conversion and transformation. His witness made a huge impact on this evening. Come join the Charismatic prayer group Friday evenings in the Day Chapel at 6:30 PM. Convicted will return for the next P3 on December 2nd, same time same place! On November 5th, St. John the Evangelist middle school students, Michael Florida, Emily Rodimel, Megin Schilling, and Frances Kornik spent their Saturday morning at Lourdes Friary in Cedar Lake raking leaves and pulling weeds. The beautiful grottos were somewhat overrun by the various plants. Thanks to the middle schoolers who helped out on Oct 15th as well as Nov 5th the grotto beauty was unveiled. When spring comes around once again even more beauty will show among the grottos. Thanks to everyone who helped!! Giving Tree The season of Advent is a time of preparation, waiting and hope. It is a time when family schedules are filled with meetings, programs, parties and annual obligations. Yet, this busiest time of year calls us to draw close to others and remember those in need and help wherever possible. In this spirit, we begin preparation of the 23 rd annual Holy Name Giving Tree Project. Please help us make this project a success by taking tags from the Giving Tree following masses beginning on Saturday, November 26 th. If you could please purchase one or two items listed on the tags and return them, gift wrapped with the tag on them, no later than Monday, December 12th. Donations of nonperishable food items are also being collected. Monetary donations are also welcome. The Giving Tree deliveries will take place on Sunday, December 18th. Volunteers are needed for preparation of the tags on Saturday, November 26 th at 10:00 a.m. in the Church basement. Volunteers are also needed on Sunday, December 18th beginning at 8:30 a.m. to set-up the gym, sort the food, pack, wrap and deliver the food and gifts. The Giving Tree is a great project for the whole family. We all have family traditions that fill our memories with fond and familiar, warm and wonderful good times shared with people we love. 5 Parish Life Campaign for Human Development Next week, we will take up the Collection for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD). CCHD was founded by the US bishops, who recognized that the lives of those in need will not improve until the systems and policies that keep people in poverty change. For over 40 years, CCHD has funded community groups that create lasting change. Fight poverty in America. Defend human dignity. Give to the CCHD collection. Family Christmas Caroling Come join us in singing Christmas Carols at the 4 PM Mass on Christmas Eve. 6 St. Vincent depaul News: St. Vincent depaul The good news of today s Gospel is the extravagance of what is being given us. All we need do is be faithful in small matters. The cost of fidelity has no comparison to the reward given. When you give donations of items and donations, to St. Vincent de Paul, you are sharing God s extravagant love. As we prepare for this year's Giving Tree, we need your help. During the next couple of weeks, if you could donate non-perishable food items, it would be greatly appreciated. All food items received will be given to the families we assist during our Christmas Giving Tree project. With Christmas right around the corner, St Vincent de Paul is selling cookbooks that feature recipes from various members. We invited the children (5-12) of our parish to bring their own offering envelopes forward. The children could deposit a monetary gift in their envelope or they could write on a little slip of paper what they intended to offer the Lord and seal that in the envelope. Some of our children have indeed been writing a good deed offering; I will be good in school. I will be extra good at home this week. I will clean my room. And so children have just drawn a picture and put that in their envelope. These offerings are just another expression of giving that has enriched our parish family. Children.. thank you for giving.
