1 YOU ARE WELCOME.at the Lord s Table. The Lord Jesus Christ invites all baptized Christians to the fellowship of his Table. Take a glass from the tray in the center aisle. Gather around the altar and kneel or stand as you wish. If you are unable to go up the steps to the chancel, remain on the floor level and the servers will come to you. To indicate your preference for grape juice, simply place your hand over your glass as the chalice approaches. People prepare for worship in different ways some spend a few minutes in prayer, others in quiet contemplation or listening to the music prelude. As you enter the sanctuary prior to the worship service, please be mindful of your noise level. Souper Bowl Sunday - a Souper Bowl of Caring! today we will share a soup lunch after the church service. The purpose of our annual souper bowl is to raise awareness of hunger in the world and in our community by educating us on the causes and the effects of hunger and the ways we can help. We will share a simple lunch of tators and soup. Our freewill offering will go to the Regional Food Bank. The 2013 giving statements have been placed in your mailbox. 2 Call Committee Update: Bishop Girlinghouse recently provided two Call candidates and intends to provide a third in the near future. The Call Committee will be meeting to review the candidates and identify next steps. The Call Committee is not able to speak about the candidates - we will keep you posted on our progress! The jacket belongs to Jim Collings. It is described as a well-worn medium brown leather jacket, waist length with zipper in front. Perhaps someone took it by mistake. 3 HOLY COMMUNION Setting Six Gathering Fourth Sunday after Epiphany February 2, 2014 CONFESSION AND FORGIVENESS The assembly stands. All may make the sign of the cross, the sign that is marked at baptism, as the presiding minister begins. In the name of the Father, and of the + Son, and of the Holy Spirit. The presiding minister may lead one of the following or another prayer of preparation. God of all mercy and consolation, come to the help of your people, turning us from our sin to live for you alone. Give us the power of your Holy Spirit that we may confess our sin, receive your forgiveness, and grow into the fullness of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Let us confess our sin in the presence of God and of one another. The assembly kneels or stands. Silence is kept for reflection. Most merciful God, we confess that we are captive to sin and cannot free ourselves. We have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways, to the glory of your holy name. The presiding minister announces God's forgiveness with these or similar words. In the mercy of almighty God, Jesus Christ was given to die for us, and for his sake God forgives us all our sins. As a called and ordained minister of the church of Christ, and by his authority, I therefore declare to you the entire forgiveness of all your sins, in the name of the Father, and of the + Son, and of the Holy Spirit. HYMN OF THE DAY 417 Ushers collect prayer requests Nicene Creed We believe! in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe! in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary and became truly human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe! in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son,* who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. PRAYERS OF INTERCESSION An assisting minister invites the assembly into prayer with these or similar words. With the whole people of God in Christ Jesus, let us pray for the church, those in need, and all of God's creation. Each portion of the prayers ends with these or similar words: Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer. The presiding minister concludes the prayers with these or similar words. Into your hands, gracious God, we commend all for whom we pray, trusting in your mercy; through Jesus Christ, our Savior. PEACE The presiding minister and the assembly greet each other in the peace of the risen Christ. The peace of Christ be with you always. And also with you. The people may greet one another with a sign of Christ's peace, and may say Peace be with you or similar words. The assembly is seated.

7 OFFERING An offering is gathered for the mission of the church, including the care of those in need. After the offering is gathered, the assembly stands. Bread, wine, money, and other gifts may be brought forward. OFFERING SONG 184 Let the vineyards be fruitful, Lord, and fill to the brim our cup of blessing. Gather a harvest from the seeds that were sown, that we may be fed with the bread of life. Gather the hopes and dreams of all; unite them with the prayers we offer. Grace our table with your presence, and give us a foretaste of the feast to come. GREAT THANKSGIVING The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give our thanks and praise. The presiding minister continues: It is indeed right, our duty and our joy, that we should at all times and in all places give thanks and praise... Here the minister continues with the preface for the day, concluding:... we praise your name and join their unending hymn: After the table is set, the assisting minister may lead one of the following or a similar prayer. Let us pray. Holy God, gracious and merciful, you bring forth food from the earth and nourish your whole creation. God of all creation, all you have made is good, and your love endures forever. You bring forth bread from the earth and fruit from the vine. 8 V Holy, mighty, and merciful Lord, heaven and earth are full of your glory. In great love you sent to us Jesus, your Son, who reached out to heal the sick and suffering, who preached good news to the poor, and who, on the cross, opened his arms to all. In the night in which he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks; broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying: Take and eat; this is my body, given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me. Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to drink, saying: This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance of me. Remembering, therefore, his death, resurrection, and ascension, we await his coming in glory. LORD'S PRAYER Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and for ever. Amen COMMUNION When giving the bread and cup, the communion ministers say The body of Christ, given for you. The blood of Christ, shed for you. and each person may respond At Communion, those who stand give testimony to resurrection life; Those who kneel give reverence to the body and blood of Christ. Pour out upon us the Spirit of your love, O Lord, and unite the wills of all who share this heavenly food, the body and blood of Jesus Christ, our Lord; to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, be all honor and glory, now and forever. 12

Now, Lord The assisting minister leads one of the following or a similar prayer after communion. Let us pray. We give you thanks, almighty God, that you have refreshed us through the healing power of this gift of life. In your mercy, strengthen us through this gift, in faith toward you and in fervent love toward one another; for the sake of Jesus Christ our Lord. O God, we give you thanks that you have set before us this feast, the body and blood of your Son. By your Spirit strengthen us to serve all in need and to give ourselves away as bread for the hungry, through Jesus Christ our Lord. God of abundance, with this bread of life and cup of salvation you have united us with Christ, making us one with all your people.
