All are encouraged to receive from the chalice or with bread alone, and to refrain from intinction (dipping the wafer in the chalice). COLLECT: Holy God, send your promised Spirit of revelation and wisdom, so that, in the blessed freedom of hope, we may witness to the grace of forgiveness and sing with joy to the One who makes us one. As you have raised us to new life in Christ, give us glad and generous hearts, ready to praise you and to respond to those in need, through Jesus Christ, our Saviour and Lord. Amen. 3 MAY 8, 2016 EASTER VII ASCENSION OF THE LORD MOTHER S DAY On this Mother s Day, we give thanks for all our mothers and for those who provide motherly care and we give thanks for the many ways that mothers bless our lives. Happy Mother s Day! Thank you to all the men who are singing in our choir today for Mother s Day! Partnership West Burlington Food Bank Needs Your Help! Last fall Partnership West Burlington Food Bank received a large part of 300,000 pounds of donated food from the Burlington community, but it is nearly all gone! Many people in our city face daily food insecurity for themselves and their families. Thank you to those who brought food on May 1 and today. Financial donations are also welcome and assist the food bank to buy fresh milk, fruit, vegetables, bread, cheese and meat. Your help will be appreciated! Burlington Food Bank has recently extended its hours and is now open Monday to Thursday, 9:00-11:45 a.m., Tuesday evenings 4:30-7:30 p.m., and a new senior time on Tuesday afternoons from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Partnership West Burlington Food Bank is located at 1254 Plains Road East, Burlington, and can be contacted at Taizé Night Prayer THIS FRIDAY May 13th, :30 p.m. In the busyness of our work-a-day lives, we all need a place and a space where we can be still and know the presence and the peace of God. 4 Speakers Lunch Group The aim of the Speakers Lunch group is to foster awareness among parishioners of happenings & endeavours in the wider community that maybe worthy of interest & support. The group meets at 11:30 am on the second Thursday of each month for social time, followed by a Bring Your Own Lunch & a talk by the speaker of the month. All welcome! THIS THURSDAY May 12 "What is Pathology and why it is critical that you know" A Talk by Dr. Victor Tron Dr. Tron is Chief of Laboratory Medicine at St. Michael s Hospital in Toronto. Prior to this, Dr. Tron was Professor and Head of the Department of Pathology and Molecular Medicine at Queen s University.He is also president of the Canadian Association of Pathologists. To celebrate the important ministry of LAY WORSHIP, we are holding a Commissioning of Lay Worship members on Sunday May 22 nd, at both the 8:15 and 10:00 services. Lay Worship groups include: - Altar Guild - Chalice Bearers - Choir - Intercessors - Offertory Bearers - Readers - Sides People - Vergers During the service on the 22 nd, all members of Worship will be asked to come forward to the chancel steps for commissioning and a blessing. Please join us for this important Sunday and celebrate your ministry in worship. May 11: Lunch at Halibut House May 18: Balderdash Game & Birthday Draw BOOK/BIBLE STUDY This summer we will gather to read and reflect upon the book titled Consider the Birds by Debbie Blue. From the image of the dove to the rooster, birds play a dynamic part in Scripture. Together we will experience an avian journey through the Bible with ten highlighted birds throughout scripture. Debbie Blue has written a provocative guide to Birds of the Bible while providing us with profound truths about humanity, faith, and God s mysterious grace. She graduated from Yale Divinity School and is the founding pastor of a church in St. Paul Minnesota. Our study will begin July 4 th to August 29 th. 6 IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR ALL CHURCH GROUPS Summer is approaching (believe it or not!) and many of our groups take a break from regular meetings. Please notify the office as soon as possible to let us know the date of your last meeting and the date of your start up in the fall. This frees up our hall calendar for other bookings and insures that the weekly calendar in the bulletin is accurate. Thanks for your help or office@stlukesburlington.ca INFORMATION UPDATING We are updating our contact information and need your help. We would like to have emergency contact information, which is particularly important for those who live on their own. This contact should be someone we can call should a medical problem happen during a service or at one of our social events. If there is a family member or close friend you would like added to your information as a contact, please let the office know their name and phone number. Please phone office or by to office@stlukesburlington.ca KEEPING IN TOUCH If you notice that a parishioner who usually attends our services hasn t been here for a while, or you know them to be sick or in hospital, please contact the office with the name so that we can contact them. A NOTE FROM THE ALTAR GUILD: One of the many responsibilities of the Altar Guild is the care & maintenance of the linens used during the services. The purificator is used to wipe the chalice after each person receives the wine and it is also one of the most difficult pieces to clean. As you can imagine, this linen becomes stained with wine but it also picks up any lipstick left on the chalice both very difficult to remove from the linen. How can you help? If you wear lipstick, perhaps when you come to a Eucharist Service, you could wear less or blot your lipstick on a tissue before coming forward for communion. Your help & consideration is greatly appreciated! ALLERGY ALERT! We have a number of parishioners with allergies, so we ask that you refrain from wearing perfume or perfumed products to church.
