All are encouraged to receive from the chalice or with bread alone, and to refrain from intinction (dipping the wafer in the chalice). NURSERY for children (up to 3yrs old) in room 302 of the Parish Hall during the 10:00am service. COLLECT: O God of salvation, we come to you in joy, for you have heard the prayers of the poor and raised up the lowly. Pour out your Spirit on young and old alike, so that our dreams and visions may bring justice and peace to the world. Amen PRAYER OVER THE GIFTS: God of all creation, all you have made is good, and your love endures forever. You bring forth bread from the earth and fruit from the vine. Nourish us with these gifts, so that we might be for the world signs of your gracious presence in Jesus Christ, our Saviour and Lord. Amen. PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION: God of abundance, with this bread of life and cup of salvation you have united us with Christ, making us one with all your people. 3 OC OCTOBER 23, 2016 PENTECOST XXIII SERVERS SUNDAY Today at the 10:00 service we recognize the important ministry of Serving with the installation of new members, the renewal of their commitment for all Servers and the presentation of awards. We present Amy Berrington and Taylor Koote with their 3 year service medal and Alex Wylie, Jimmy Stewart, Owen Thouless and Olivia Magee with their 6 year service medal. We are excited to be installing Cole Williams, Courtney Gilbey and Jacob Walker-Edwards as new Servers into the St. Luke s Servers Guild, and Olivia Walker-Edwards as a Team leader. Congratulations to all! Head Server, Owen Thouless and the Clergy would also like to thank ALL of the members of the Servers Guild for their hard work and dedication to the Guild. EVENSONG TODAY AT 4 p.m. Due to its popularity and in response to parishioners requests we will have Evensong each season. We have decided to go with this earlier time so people can get home while it is still light. Please join us for this quintessentially Anglican traditional service, ending with the hymn, The Day Thou Gavest, Lord is Ended. 4 Speakers Lunch Group The aim of the Speakers Lunch group is to foster awareness among parishioners of happenings & endeavours in the wider community that may be worthy of interest & support. The group meets at 11:30 am on the second Thursday of each month for social time, followed by a Bring Your Own Lunch & a talk by the speaker of the month. Everyone is welcome bring your friends and neighbours! The next meeting of the St. Luke s Speakers Lunch Group is at 11.30am on Thursday November 10 when Commander Bob Williamson of the Hamilton Historical Society will speak to us about Three Hamilton Veterans 2017 OFFERING ENVELOPES The 2017 envelopes will be arriving shortly. If you do not currently have envelopes and would like them for the coming year, please contact the office so that a box will be prepared for you. OR if you are now using envelopes and would prefer to switch to the more convenient method of pre-authorized giving, please contact the office to arrange it Thank you. 5 The Prayer Shawl Ministry Team will hold their fall coffee morning on Sat. Nov. 5th at 10am at the home of Alleyne Parks ( ). Please bring any completed shawls. New members always welcome. Hurricane Matthew - How can you help? Over 1.4 million people in Haiti and 175,000 in Cuba have been affected by Hurricane Matthew. PWRDF has sent $40,000 for relief work in Haiti and a further $20,000 for relief work in Cuba through the ACT Alliance, whose members were active in both countries long before the hurricane and are there for the long term. The major needs in Haiti are shelter, water, sanitation, hygiene and food. Cholera and the loss of crops and livelihoods are of particular concern. In Cuba, the focus is on providing food security, water and sanitation, shelter and psychosocial support. Food for 30 days will be provided, as well as tools and seeds to help farmers to replant the crops that were destroyed. If you would like to support PWRDF s response to this ongoing emergency, please use the envelopes in the pews, marking PWRDF on the donation for line and on the memo line of your cheque. Thank you. Music at St. Luke s presents: an evening of beautiful Celtic Music featuring Allison Lupton and her trio on November 26th. Allison got her start playing folk music with the band Killiecrankie, which was regularly featured on CBC Radio s Max Ferguson Show. Her trio includes Shane Cook, the only Canadian to win North American and Canadian fiddle championships. Her other talented musicians are Joey Wright and Kyle Weymouth. The evening includes a delicious catered dinner. Doors open at 5:30 pm. Tickets are $35 and are available today at coffee hour or at or hlennard@cogeco.ca. 6 CHRISTMAS MARKET NOVEMBER 19TH 9AM 1. We are still in need of wooden ladders for the Market, for use as space savers. If you happen to have an old one in your basement or garage that you are willing to part with, please call Colin. 2. We are also looking for one or two creative volunteers to decorate the lobby of the parish hall for the Market this year. If you feel that might be you, please call Lesley. 3. Olivia needs a few helpers to complete some projects. If you can spare some time and have a sewing machine, please call Olivia at (905) We also need a few new faces for the Tea Room. If this is something you might be interested in, please call Group Leader Ann Dukes-Shilte at (905) Items needed: new and VERY gently used Christmas ornaments, Christmas Crafts, table centrepieces etc., Treasure Room Items, Sewing & Knitting, Jams, Jellies and Preserves, and Christmas Baking. Please save these items for us! If you can store items until the week leading up to the Market, that would be great.
